Pie™ Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Click Veteran BBC broadcaster John Peel has died at the age of 65, while on holiday in Peru. This is so sad... The man helped break so many bands, from Bauhaus to Carcass
IG-64 Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 I don't know him, but R.I.P. Looks like a likable guy.
Sabretooth Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Me with IG. Good guy. Why did he have to die???
Pie™ Posted October 26, 2004 Author Posted October 26, 2004 Here are some of the many bands whom owe a lot to Peel; Carcass The Cure Joy Division Sex Pistols David Bowie Siouxsie and The Banshees Nick Cave The White Stripes The Smiths The Clash Captain Beefheart Napalm Death The Sisters of Mercy And many, many more... [edit] In other words, he had a lot to do with the rising popularity of first punk, then post punk, then goth, and then death metal/grindcore
GothiX Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 So, summed up, he added tremendously to the popularity of the more alternative and extreme sides of music. Rest in peace.
toms Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 without him the uk music industry would have been ENTIRELY manufactured garbage. He fought a valiant rear-guard action against that, when most uk djs were playing commercialised rubbish... and seemed like a really down to earth guy.... and gave me hope that people could actually stay cool and in touch when in their 60s... He will be missed...
JediJohn Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 R.I.P. dude you really did some cool s*** for music and me R.I.P.
•-BLaCKouT-• Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 ...and BoltThrower too... The radio's a smaller place now. Rest in Peace, John. B.
DarthBuzzard Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 If he furthered Sex pistols and Bowie, then he has my thanks. R.I.P.
