NBA brawl...?

Just saw it.

Holy ****. That was one of the craziest fights I've ever seen.

I loved it when they got a breakdown of the fight when Jermaine O Neal bionic punches the fans that attack Artest.

Ben Wallace... was a simple foul...

Dirty fans... I really felt sorry for the innocent fans, but those that threw cups and chairs and popcorn... shameful. :disaprove

:fist:

All I can say is that people sometimes just can't hold their emotions in while playing a sport that you have to give your all.

Though, that still isn't an excuse

Whoa whoa here, the fans were definetly NOT playing basketball at the time.

Sure, NBA players should never cross the barrier of the sidelines and go after a fan, but a player can only take so much, especially when the game is 40 seconds from ending, and you get a hard cup of freeze water in your face.

The fans are 90% percent to blame here, as there were actual people on the court going after the Pacers players themselves. The other 10 % of the blame goes to the Pistons players for making the situation even worse.

And yet, all four players from the Pacers team get suspended. Disgraceful indeed, and David Stern should be ashamed of his organization for how they dealed with this.

Three players from the pacers (Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal and someone else) and one from the Pistons actually. I also personally think that only 1 or 2 of the NBA players should be suspended for a game or two, and they should fine and even ban those Pistons fans from going to games for a while.

Well even with the Pistons player(s) causing it (surprisingly Ben Wallace shoving Artest didn't make Artest too mad from the videos, though the things coming up after that made him very angry) about at laest 1% of the blame should be put on the Pacers players too.

Bah, that video does not do the fight justice.

Oh you saw Jermaine O'Neal punching that fan, but did you see the fan throwing water at Artest, someone else threw a chair, and another fan hit Artest too?

Ben Wallace... was a simple foul...

Ben Wallace shoving Artest sure started it, but Artest, O'Neal and the other person whose name I can't remember were involved not because of Wallace but because of what happened.

The other person is Stephon Jackson.

While the fans escalated the situation, Ben Wallace causing a flagrant foul with only 40 seconds left and down by 22 points hardly warrants any foul at all.

It all started when Detroit's Ben Wallace went in for a layup and was fouled hard by Artest from behind. After being fouled, Wallace wheeled around and pushed Artest in the face. The benches emptied and punches were thrown

from http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=241119008

So yep, it was in fact a simple foul that Artest fouled Wallace. tsk tsk Ben.

Anyways, did they count the game as Pacers win, or did they not count it at all because they stopped it with 45 secs left?

I know this, but players should be above that kind of behavior...

Fans don't have any common sense not to do anything, so it's players who have to be the bigger people.

But Artest turned around after that and started throwing punches at a fan who DIDN'T do aNYTHING to him. He may have been heckling him, but heckling is something you have to deal with in sports. For him to just turn around and start swinging is absolutely unacceptable.

That was unnecessary, but funny.

And yes Mobbit, ESPN did show Artest getting hit with the cup of water, the chair being thrown, and a zoom and yellow circle drawn around each fan that hit Artest, Jackson, O'Neal... etc.

I'm going back to ESPN, maybe I can record it :D

OK, riddle me this Batman, and imagine you all live in world where the US isnt the only country.... I caught a very scant glimpse of this incident on the news. It was no big deal as here in Oz its par for the course to brawl up in sports, fans included :p

can someone explain

1. who was involved

2. who started it

3. what happenned

4. who broke it up

5. what is the aftermath

1) Ben Wallace from Detroit Pistons

Ron Artest from Indiana Pacers

Jermaine O Neal from Indiana Pacers

something Jackson from Indiana Pacers

2) Wallace, though it wasn't meant to blow up this big.

3) Wallace goes up for layup and is fouled by Artest. Wallace shoves him in the neck. Both teams rush to them. Artest doesn't do anything but sit down on a table and relax. Everything seems to settle down until a fan hits Artest with a plastic cup full of water and ice. Artest jumps into the stands and proceeds to beat the **** out of a fan while other fans try to beat him up. A fan in a white cap and blue shirt is seen punching Artest. Jackson hits the fan. He's hit. Other Pacers players join in and take down people who hit their teammates. They get Artest down and 2 fans are hassling him. He hits them and is taken down. O Neal rushes down Boromir style and sucker punches the fan. Shazam.

4) Coaches and security drag players into locker room. On the way, more fights break out cause the fans keep throwing water and popcorn and other **** onto the players.

Chairs are thrown etc.

5) All 4 mentioned are suspended indefinitely pending conclusion of NBA official investigation.

1. So far, the only ones punished for it were Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons, and Ron Artest, Stephon Jackson, and Jermain O'Neal of the Indiana Pacers

2. Depends. Ben Wallace could be to blame. With 40 seconds left on the clock and the game clearly out of reach, Ben pushed Ron Artest in the back with some force. A Flagrant foul was called, and Artest just walked to the scoreres table and layed down. That was when a fan threw an Ice cup at Artest and hit him in the head. Artest jumped from his seat, and attacked the fan.

3. Fights broke out around the court. Fans were running on the court, and getting pummled by O'Neal and Artest.

4. No one really broke it up. The players were lead into their locker rooms, and the Detroit Pistons coach even trued to calm the crowd by getting on the loud speaker, which didn't work.

5. The aftermath was that the game was called with 40 seconds left. No one is really certain what the long term effects of this will be, maybe guard rails will be put up, maybe front row seats might be stripped away. But the short term effects are simple. Jermain O'Neal, Ben Wallace, Ron Artest, and Stephon Jackson are all suspended from the NBA indefinetly. For how long, I don't know.

Well we don't for a fact exactly what each and every fan that got hit said to incite Artest. And besides, it is absolutely unacceptable for a fan to be on the floor in the first place.

No, I know ESPN showed it, I was wondering if you saw it or not.

he he he. sounds a riot.... reminds me of the Eric Cantona(Manchester United Player) incident from the 90s......... apparently some crowd member said something about his mum(??) so he leaped into the crowd and kicked him silly

Interesting...

ever heard of soccer riots??? i can understand why its a new thing here, but everyone in europe is probably sayin "bah, that was nothing."

Interesting too...

Stern really laid down the law today.

Ron Artest is now suspended for the entire season

Stephon Jackson is gone for 30 games

Jermain O'Neal for 25 games

Ben Wallace 5 games

The Pacers were obviously the ones screwed over by the NBA on this one, as the players suspended were all averaging double figures.

For shame Mr. Stern, for shame

I second that.

Reggie Miller was suspended for 1 game??? What the heck? What did he do? I only saw him escorting Artest or someone else into the locker rooms. And anyways he was injured, so... yeah...
