Leper Messiah
Actually it doesnt, and the seats in my local are quite satisfactory thank you very much. But what is not satisfactory are drinking hours in Britain, unless a late licence is involved your bog standard pub or bar has last orders at 11 PM forcing punters into more expensive establishments. I think that hours should be till midnight at the earliest, because the occaison is rare that i want to go to a club and stay out till 2 AM, but once you pay things like admission fees you feel obliged to. How does this measure up with the rest of the world? what are licensing laws like elsewhere in the globe? i remember in the run up to the Portugal Vs England Euro 2004 match a portugese newspaper ran an article on reasons to mock England (one of which i totally agree with, the mocking of English tourists who make idiots of themselves on Spanish/Portugese beaches and in their bars and pretend they own the place and come back redder than lobsters) and one reason was that we had "set times for drinking" does this mean that in Portugal or elsewhere alcohol can be sold at any time? jon_hill987
Plymouth sounds pretty good then, all types of music depending on the day of week, they only charge on fri and sat (when its really packed for some reason) and then its only a pound. I avoid fri and sat.

BawBag™
Originally posted by GothiX Hahaha, British pubs suck Negative. English pubs suck. Scotties get late license until 1 am. And during the Edinburgh festival, clubs are open until 5. Up ye's!
The_One
If you know the right pubs to go to, you won't get chucked out until 12 or later Mind you, where I live has the second greatest pub/person ratio in the UK. I wouldn't exchange English pub culture for anything. It's one of the only things that's preventing me from emigrating

StormHammer
Originally posted by jon_hill987 Horray more drinking time! And that is precisely the reason why extending drinking hours is a bad idea. Binge drinking has become so ingrained in British mentality that I think the majority of people would simply see extending the hours as a reason to drink more - rather than simply drinking moderately at a time that suits them. Clubs that stay open until all hours are evidence of this. I used to live where there was a club in the same street, and you could guarantee that people would be piling out at 2 in the morning, pissing up people's front doors, breaking windows, screaming their heads off, brawling, and still climb into cars to drive off. No - I'm not tarring everyone with the same brush, but I'm saying it happens. Alcohol-related crime in Britain has escalated all out of proportion in recent times, and I don't see that extending opening times will make the situation any better at all. We have a different culture to our European neighbours, and it simply isn't going to change over night. Pubs are already open at reasonable enough hours - but still people insist on drinking to excess, going on pub crawls, etc. with what seems to be the sole intention of blowing their wad and getting plastered. Drinking times isn't the problem with some British drinkers.
Leper Messiah
true, id like longer hours because i dont like the way i sometimes have to rush out in order to be in the pub by a certain time just to have a few pints with friends, but a lot of British drinkers do annoy me. I have never pissed up someones door but there are plenty of people who do that in worse in my town. drunken people who think they own the place are the worst, but happily are frequently arrested by the gleeful old bill.
