KOTOR as a MMORPG

do u think it could work?

I mean we would need a bleek story but add in the new classes and the choice of being a jedi or not and a few other tweaks and twists to some things but would it be awsome? would it be badass to play the d20 system in starwars fashion with others across the nation (also we would need name restrictions, who knows how many Lord Revan's would be running around lol)

what do you think of a KOTOR MMORPG? and what do you think would need to be changed, added,or taken out to make a KOTOR MMORPG. plz by all means post your cool ideas.

I personally think KOTOR would need a better character customization, like major customization

also I know that galaxies already has this slot filled but there are so many problems in the community with that game, well atleast the whinners and such from what I have been told.

I do know for a fact that there are those out there that dont wanna be a jedi and would rather be imperial stormtrooper 3 feet to the right. another good reason for a KOTOR mmorpg is because in galaxies is all about killing and the jedi class is unbalanced. while in KOTOR we know a solider can take on a jedi and have a chance at winning or not (course those force powers...would change the battle) so there is a balance to kotor that isnt in galaxies from what I have played (although I olny played for fun, got tired of the whinners)

Also with the introduction of Bao-Durr, came a new class. the tech-speacalists and im sure they would add stuff like "additional proffession" like say your a scout and you do certain things and you become a bounty hunter (more of a title really). Just think of it, these 2 soldier players would like to raid a highly secured ruined jedi enclave for some "ph4t lw3t" and to get something for some quest but they arent very skilled in anything but treat injury or demolitions, that is where the tech-speacialist would come in. It would add some teamwork and balancing between the classes like people would be grouping up with mixed class (course jedi would probably stick together) just think about how u play KOTOR and TSl, unless your main character is a sentintal or scoundral, your gonna bring along and use another teammate to help you open up that high security door or defuse that deadly plasma mine. And lets not forget there is poteintal for droids as well, people could be an expert droid or combat droid, ya know droids that fight or use skills and such. I see that there could be more to it then just jedi vs sith (course I would be a sith though)

but the game and its system has balance and so does its classes and IMO it would be a much greater MMORPG then SWGs

also lets not forget how cool it would be just to sit and watch a sith and jedi battle (like 7 jedi vs 7 sith)

The problem with MMORPGs is that you have to rely on other players to provide immersion into the story. My experience is that it simply doesn't happen. It is hard to get into the spirit of the story when every other person you meet is saying things like, "Dood! lik teh litesbrz r teh l33t!"

If you ask me, I think the KOTOR should stay singleplayer only. Besides, most people wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee...

LOL! well said Prime :D

I hope they never make KOtor multiplayer in any ways. The main feature of Kotor and the reason why I bought it is that it is a single player story driven game. If you go multiplayer, you loose this. I am not interested at all in MMORPGs.

I definitely prefer the devs to invest time and $ in making a strong story driven game and on dialogues and character development.

I think that KotOR should also be multiplayer. Not necessarily MMORPG style, but perhaps something like people can create games and two other people can join, and take control of the other two party members. The difficulty can be increased with each new person who comes in (e.g.: 1 person - singleplayer difficulty ; 2 people - a bit harder ; 3 people - a lot harder), to balance out the game. That way, it can still have the singleplayer elements, but it allows you to play through the game with friends if you want.

One person can be selected as party leader, who controls the dialogue options, and chooses the destination of the group. The others will be forced to stay within a certain radius of the leader, to avoid them going off in different directions. When aboard the Ebon Hawk, players take it in turns to control the PC, while the others are 'spectators'.

I think it would work... :)

That would also make me buy it for computer. Surprisingly, I can do without mods because I love the console control style in KotOR, but if an internet option were available, I'd wait the extra few months to buy a PC version.

I wouldn't really like it for the reasons stated by Prime & Darth333. A game as story driven as this series should stay as a single player experience. IMO, it would turn out like the Jedi Knight series' MP scene where nobody does anything but chat, bow, & whine at each other. If said series is any indication of how people think a Jedi should act, no matter how wrong their polluted idea of Jedi honor is, I'd have to say no thanks & keep on with the SP magic.

It would work better than star wars galaxies as you can have alot of jedi and dark jedi running around.

Isn't that whats happening to SW Galaxies? Last I heard, about half the people you run into are Jedi. Personaly, I'd get bored if every player you met was a jedi in a MP story, maybe thats just me though.....

I also have to agree with Prime, Darth333, and FiEND, as RPG's like KOTOR aren't intended as, and never really would make good multiplayer games.

And despite their titles MMORPG's rarely have any actual RPG elements in them at all... like the example Prime listed above.

But then you would lose all the story interactions between the player and the NPCs, which is what KOTOR is all about...

The only way you could have a multiplayer of any kind on a KOTOR game would be a co-op that way you could still have a half decent story.

well, my guess is to have a co-op game with intertwining stories between the two main characters. sounds complicated, and i'm sure it is. so, i'd have to pass on that one. :dozey:
