The One Year Thread Redux

Recommended Posts

Now all I have to do is install it, troubleshoot it with XP, download and install all the XWA upgrade packages, and then find time to go through it all again... which just might be easier said than done. Why is it that I seem to have far less free-time than I did as little as 5 years ago?

Personally, I don't like to play games with mods or upgrades. I don't know why...probably nostalga.

I don't think you will have any trouble with it on XP. At most you might have to flip on a compatability mode, but I don't even think you will have to do that. You're far more likely to have trouble from your graphics card, unless it's fairly old. If you have a newer nVIDIA card, then may God have mercy on your soul. I needed to find the exact right drivers for my card to fix a number of graphical problems. And I also had the infamous text problem, though thankfully one of the font files that was already out there fixed it up for me. I still had a few crashes, though, if I was in certain missions for a long enough time. I had to turn off 3D graphics for those missions to stop those (though maybe just backing off some of the settings would have been good enough).

The game doesn't actually take that long to play through, unless you like to rack up the bonus points. Anyway, you have to make the time for important things like video games...

went out to the range and fired a good 30 rounds...my grouping wasn't the best, and i had to mess w/the scope a bunch to get it on-target, then for some reason my bolt jammed, and i left. i got 1 shot in the bull's eye. XD my friend fixed it easily for me when i got home, so gonna go out on friday and refire...hoping there's not too many people out there next time i go. hopefully i can get all scoped in and then go frolic in the woods fully-loaded!

I have a nVidia GF 4 Ti. It's pretty old. I got it around the time Jedi Outcast came out. I think I have the latest drivers installed though. Of course, I could always drag out the GeForce 1 that I have that came with the compy. That might be fun... except for all the frame-rate issues I had the first time I played through XWA.

It would probably take me a while to get through it however. I don't blaze through games. I generally take a long time. And it's been so long since I've played a proper flight sim that it would take me a while to just to get the feel of it again.

I've been on a Metal Gear Solid high all weekend... and this week so far. Man, MGS4 is going to be awesome.

My vid card drivers will not be supported after this friday (sept 30) That sucks. Stupid Intel. Actaully, it doesn't seem to me that there drivers really did a whole anyways... oh well. Intel sucks, reguardless... for the vid cards, anyways.

You mean it stopped being slow for a while?

Well, if you were around more ( :p ) you would know that after they upgraded the forum software, things sped up and became exponentially more stable. At least in comparison to before.

Things seem OK for me so far today though. Maybe they fixed the whatever it was.

Mixed my first biggish show on the new console last night. It was an eye-opener. Pretty steep learning curve I still have to get over. It would have been a lot easier if the band had been on time for soundcheck, but as it was they were a bit late, and everything got a bit rushed. Still I got through it all right, even if I wasn't super-happy with the way the mix came out. As I get more comfortable with it I'll be able to do a lot more.

I felt like crap all day. My Fall allergies kicking in, I'm afraid. Couldn't get out of my own way.

Managed to watch the Kill Bill Vol. 2 DVD... and that pretty much sums up the day.

I have a lot to do tomorrow... I really hope I feel better, or it's going to turn out more miserable than today.

Feeling better... FINALLY! Yay!

I might take a day off from work tomorrow though, now that I'm feeling good... I know that sounds like a bit of backwards logic, (finally getting around to taking a day off once I'm not sick anymore,) but hear me out:

I didn't feel good enough all weekend or so far this week to really get anything important done at home, so I dragged myself to work each day and slugged it out, not wanting to take the time off only to be sitting at home doing nothing and feeling miserable. I was busy enough at work to take part of my mind off of it anyways.

Now that I'm back to normal, I should have enough energy and focus to get a bunch of stuff accomplished around here that I totally blew off last weekend, and since there's not a lot going on at the office tomorrow, then what better time? Huh?

Friday is going to be a long enough day at work to make up for it, anyways. We have a concert that night with Porcupine Tree and Robert Fripp of King Crimson.

Should be challenging...

today totally sucked. woke up, showered and had a whole pot of coffee and some fettucine alfredo for breakfast, then headed to pizza hut...finally got done w/the same-old routine there, then went to wal-mart.....and yay. someone called in sick and i had to close alone from 6-9, the stupid picture sorter was ****ing broke, and loads of customers. so i had like no break in between, well except from transing from pizza hut to walmart. hopefully they don't bitch about me working a few extra minutes and not taking my half hour. this ****in place does NOT like overtimers. not like i could just walk away from a customer constantly at the damn counter! -_-

anyway i have walmart off tomorrow, so i have to go to bloody pizza hut. meh. i am getting sick of waking up at 6 am. o well at least i have 2-whenever to do whatever i want. which isnt much cause ****ing walmart pay is biweekly and i'm out of ammo and i only have 1 arrow left for my bow. meh. guess i could go for a bike ride. :joy: and i just got a feeling it's going to rain.

my parents are coming up for the weekend cause my dad has an interview at the home depot up here. my mom's last day of work is tomorrow, then i guess they'll be looking for a place to buy up here. as long as they don't move in. omg me and my sister would go insane. =\

im still considering enlisting. just dunno when. i don't want to leave my sister out to dry since we both pay half the rent every month and split the bills cause her car insurance is like $240 a month. stupid people. new cars should have inexpensive insurance cause they don't break down and cause the ****in accidents.

speaking of accidents....i have learned that one of my old coworkers at the first pizza hut i worked at, at the age of 18...well last week on the 21st she was killed in a car accident. I didn't really know her too well, but she was one of the least annoying highschool workers that i worked with. i read the obituary and she was going to college and helping an association for the blind or something.

on a more funny note....there is this homeless guy that hangs out about 600 feet from the apartment....he looks like Kenny from south park. and he constantly paces back and forth ALL DAY AND NIGHT. it's ****in weird. i might be bad and take a picture one of these days. :joy:

Took that long, huh?

I was thinking of going back over it and seeing the ways that my life has changed this year, but your post has made me think better of it.

Didn't get as much done yesterday as I would have liked, but that was mostly the fault of having too much to do, and not enough time to do it. The rest will have to wait for the weekend. I hope the weather isn't too nice... I'm going to stuck inside all day at least one of those days doing a mountain of laundry, which I haven't tackled since I've been back from Florida. I haven't even put my suitcases away in the closet yet.

My graphics card broke.

well, less broke, more like "Well, since your such and idiot and NEVER EVER cleaned your fans out, your GPU overheated and can no longer function at temperatures higher than 0*F."

so i'm gonna get a new one. probably the x700 or a 9800 (ATI is sugar daddy......) soon. i use a 32MB old 7000 All-in-wonder card, which is getting me by until i can get a new one.

I mean, no sense in spending 200+ dollars on something i'm gonna upgrade in a year once the world turns 64-bit. which is gonna cost an arm and a leg in-and-of itself.

and i just upgraded the CPU in my machine too. DAMNIT.

well, at least i can keep this box around in case i wanna go old school.

As I predicted, yesterday was very long, and quite challenging. The touring engineers for the bands weren't all that familiar with our new board, and wanted a lot of custom setups and gear patched in. I managed to get it all up and running without consulting the manuals though. That was cool. I got stuck answering questions and troubleshooting all afternoon, and I went all day without eating. I finally got to eat breakfast around 7:30 at night.

I'm wiped out today, but I have to force myself to keep working... I can't go another week with my house in the condition it's in at the moment.

It's a truly beautiful day out, however. I really want to just go out and try to enjoy it. Or go back to bed. Either one.

*Sigh* Back to work...

Well, I managed to re-read a couple of months of this thread. It brought back a lot of memories.

I got most of my laundry done this weekend. Enough for me to get through the next couple of weeks without too much hardship, anyways.

I picked up a couple of rooms in the house, and managed to get all my CDs re-organized, which can often be a pretty involved job, as they rarely get put away back in their original cases. This time was worse than most, as it's been months since I have gone through them. I ended up having to take most of them off the shelves, pulling the discs out, and then having to sort through them all, matching CD to jewel case. Took a while... I have close to a thousand CDs now.

Re-watched Monty Python's Meaning of Life. It's been forever since I've watched anything on VHS tape, and I was a bit surprised that it didn't look or sound as bad as I kind of expected, having been a total DVD snob since I got my first player.

Broke down and took a walk yesterday. The weather was just too nice to spend the whole weekend inside working. It meant not getting as quite much done this weekend as I should have, but it will be soon enough that the weather will turn nasty around here, and I'll end up regretting not taking advantage of it fully when I could.

That's the biggest thing I took away from my re-reading of the early part of the thread: LAST WINTER REALLY SUCKED AROUND HERE!!!!

It seemed like every other post for 4 or 5 months I was bitching about the snow. That's what drove me outside yesterday... the fact that I could be going through that all over again, all too soon. So, note to self: When the weather is nice, take advantage of it! Everything else can wait.

Back to work this morning. I don't think it's going to be too busy of a week, though.
