I posted this in the swamp in reponse to someones post. I thought I would share it here since not everyone visits the swamp. That, and it's pretty cool.

So, is it our minds playing tricks on us , the power of suggestion , intentional subliminal messages, or just plain odd?

Songs played backwards

By the way, I tried out "Stairway to Heaven" using the same method described. He really did not alter the files in any way.

Back in high school,(quite a long time ago). A band freind of mine (Craig) would hold a no.9 party . First the band would start out with a short concert in the garage for about 15 people, and then everyone would move to the recording studio. For those new to the party, Craig wanted to get opinions about what they would hear from records as He played them backwards. Then He would show the album covers and the messages on the art work. It was pretty cool but kinda creepy. Of course, "Stairway" was the first song played, then he would move to the Beatles. The Beatles had tons of stuff about Paul being dead or signs thereof.

This link leads to an article of some of the Beatle's "Paul is dead" hype which tells of some of the messages in their songs and the album covers along with some mention of backward masking.

All "back-masking" ever was was a marketing ploy. Some bands were actively participating in it and others were caught in the crossfire of southern evangelical preachers because someone claims to have heard something in the mix. Think about it...the music industry WANTED people to ruin their LPs by playing them backwards. If they happened to find something, that was great because it furthered the ploy. I can tell you that many a preacher was buying these albums to play backward over and over again for his followers. Once he wore them out, he would go buy more. Is there a better way to support those you dispise?

I was the victim of one of these so-called do-gooders named Billy Mayo that travelled from town to town with this message of condemnation. I provide the link accompanied with the following warning: Billy Mayo is a washed out rock drummer who couldn't make it in the business, so he decided one day to join the opposing team. Despite his tales of being redeemed of his drug addiction through his faith, I doubt it was a selfless act. He began making a living as an evangelist, but at the same time, he and his "ministry" were (directly or indirectly) helping to support the recording industry by buying these albums to play backwards. But it doesn't end there! Every teenager like me that went home and burned their albums and eventually wised up had to go out and replace what they had destroyed at the word of this madman. Talk about smart marketing! A year or so later, I became friends with the local record store owner who told me that the day Billy Mayo was to leave town, he sent one of his cronies into his store to attempt to sell a truckload of records and tapes that had been thrown on stage during his week in town. My friend told him to go screw himself. Be warned about him and anyone else like him! They are nothing but hypocrites! :blast5:
