Prince
The masks are mandalorian inspirations. The guards are just elite stormtroopers that have been chosen to continue advanced training. The guards train on the world of Yinnchor and very few are chosen. The ones that succeed become Imperial Guards. They then go through even more advanced training to become Imperial Sovereign Protectors. These Protectors had advanced Mandalorian armor and were trained in the Dark Side
Prime
So the short answer is no.
MdKnightR
Well, technically, they would be of Mandalorian descent, wouldn't they? I mean, Stormtroopers/Clones were cloned from Jango Fett and he was a Mandalorian wasn't he?
Emperor Devon
The clones were not Mandalorians. They may have been cloned from one, but they never went through the trials to become full Mandalorians. And not all Royal Guards are clones. You're forgetting how after the Clone Wars, Palpatine allowed non-clones to join the army. @Prince, I think "elite" wouldn't be the best term for them. Out of millions, possibly billions of Imperial forces, only a hundred or so are Royal Guards.
Hannibal
Also if you remember Palpatine has the guards before there is a clone army. So they aren't clones at all.
Soogz
Yea, but I thought his guards in Episode 1 and in Episode 2 were blue weren't they?
lukeiamyourdad
They're called Senate guards who later were replaced by Royal guards. http://www.starwars.com/databank/organization/senateguard/index.html Though their origins comes from the Senate Guards, the Royal Guards are a seperate entity. And, where did you get the information about Palpatine allowing non-clones to join the army? I don't recall ever hearing that.
Emperor Devon
You recall the ending of Episode III, right? You see a bunch of non-clone officers on the bridge. It is also mentioned in multiple EU sources that stormtroopers are not just clones. Besides, wouldn't that be the logical thing to do? Just give them proper training, and they'll be as good as any clone, and they live twice as long.
90SK
Yeah, though they wouldn't have the obedience or lack of fear that the clones had. That would be a minus.

I'll try and find the article.
Emperor Devon
Yeah, though they wouldn't have the obedience or lack of fear that the clones had. That would be a minus. They are put through VERY extreme conditioning. If one of their allies is gunned down, unlike the rebels, they won't stop and moan about it. Sometimes they forget their own names. This is mentioned in the visual dictionary and other EU sources.
