blc43519 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I was an avid monkey island gamer, playing all monkey island games 1-4 and I wanted to start playing the monkey island games on my windows xp system. It didn't work with curse of monkey island so I came to this forum to figure out how to play them. I know there a few programs out there, but I'm not sure which one to use. Is there any particular program you would use and why you use it?
Joshi Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Go there, download scummVM, it's probably the best program for running these games in XP. Also, go here for the frontend to that as well as the CMI launcher. Any questions, come back here.
Samuel Dravis Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 I played MI1 on XP without using scumm, and it worked fine... is my compy abnormal?
Joshi Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 No, mine works as well, but my MI2 didn't work wth sound, sometime they work, sometimes they don't.
RoyTordesLegend Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 sometime they work, sometimes they don't. Dissapointing Neil, I expected a more technical answer from someone of your standing within the community!
drunkymonkey Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 what, like 'it depends whether the computer enjoys being awkard or not'?
Joshi Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 Dissapointing Neil, I expected a more technical answer from someone of your standing within the community! So you wanted a 70 line essay?
RoyTordesLegend Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 So you wanted a 70 line essay? Perhaps I've just built you up so highly in my mind Neil, you're on a pedestal there to be judged........ .......you call 70 lines an essay? Can't see your stay at Uni lasting much longer!!
blc43519 Posted September 26, 2005 Author Posted September 26, 2005 lol computers enjoying being awkward
Joshi Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Perhaps I've just built you up so highly in my mind Neil, you're on a pedestal there to be judged........ .......you call 70 lines an essay? Can't see your stay at Uni lasting much longer!! Depends, i could just have really small handwriting or use point 2 font size.
RoyTordesLegend Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 ........or you could do a one line essay on toilet roll!
Alien426 Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 My agents have acquired Joshi's latest essay. I really like page 4 where the teacher wrote "Page is to big"
Joshi Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Alien stop lying, you know you have no agents. And for the record (for those who're really gullible), no that's not my essay.
Samuel Dravis Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 That looks like your essay. I could swear it is...
blc43519 Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 so I hafta download a frontend to scummwm alongwith scummvm? I downloaded scummvm and the cmi launcher so far, but i am confused in the fact u hafta download scummvm alongwith the frontend.
Remi Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 You don't need to download the Q+E frontend, it just makes it a bit easier to set up ScummVM.
blc43519 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 well first of all the cmi launcher is not working, and says I have to install CMI, which I know I have to, but its not working when I open the CMI launcher and try to install the game.
Joshi Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Are you saying CMI won't install (The launcher only helps you play the game, not install it) As for the ScummVM frontend, ScummVM on it's own works fine, Q+E (the frontend) is simply a nice GUI with a few extra features on it which makes things easier, but you don't have to install it to play the games.
blc43519 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 scummvm works well, but the cutscene sounds are all distorted, but cmi launcher does jack **** for me and i get a bunch of error messages when I try to open it.
blc43519 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 under the What is CMI Launcher?: in the cmi launcher readme The program can be run from anywhere since it reads the registry values in order to find the location of CMI. CMI must be installed for the launcher to work correctly. And whenever I try to launch CMI from the launcher it doesn't work
blc43519 Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 I would just use scummvm but it doesn't fix the cutscene flop and sound, and on top of that scumm Q+E is not working properly either.
Benny Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 CMI must be installed for the launcher to work correctly. And whenever I try to launch CMI from the launcher it doesn't work Hint.
