Playing online. How should it be managed?

Having played Dawn Of War online again today, ive noticed a few things.

1) Its very inpersonal.

2) lots of people dropping from games

3) lack of co-ordination of the rooms

The MSN zone might of had its problems but at least it was a good community. Sending private messages, game rooms that were clearly displayed etc. Gamespy seems to be the favoured choice now for online gaming but having to select a game to play in, only to have the scroll move it because another game opened up, is a pain.

its hard to find any friends and who just don't know whose in any of the games until you join the game. We have been promised a Ladder/League and I think it will be interesting to find out how this will be managed.

Well, it needs to be better than GB/CC ever was. Also, they need to let us direct IP connect to friends, unlike BFME. Although, something like BFME's ingame MP stuff would be nice. Keeps stats, has chatrooms/gamerooms for different categories (Country, 1v1, 2v2, ect).

But the important thing is direct IP connecting.

I loved the way that Warcraft III, well really all the Blizzard games, have implemented multiplayer. But from what I understand this aspect of the game will not be handled directly by Petro, but by another company such as Gamespy.

As StarWarsPhreak has said, direct IP connection would be a great feature, and is one thing I really missed in Warcraft III.
