Lady Jedi
The first two Alien movies creeped me out. Totally. *shudders* The third was good, but not as creepy and Ressurection does suck. But, yeah for some creepy hopeless chases you gotta get the first two. AvP is great, but not quite as dark.... Gothika was pretty creepy, too. Those darn flickering lights really got to me. Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon are just plain unsettling. Goood movies.
toms
Manhunter always trumps Red Dragon...
Ray Jones
Aliens is my personal fav, Alien is pretty good though and Alien³ still cool, however the three books are all equally excellent and give you a real Alienosphery picture of the story. Also, I'd prefer Alien vs Predator as 4th movie of the trilogy as Ressurection rather was like staring into a litterbox full of used condoms for one and a half hour. I mean, an Alienqueen having a womb? Yeah, and I said Alien(s) first. But is that of importance? No. <_<; Something else?? Ehhmm. Mel Brook's Dracula? toms
Well, now that Halloween is out the way and Bonfire Night is fast approaching, we need a list of the top ten films in which things get blown up! (especially with gunpowder): 1 - A New Hope (whole planet!) 2 - Mask of Zorro (only a mine, but with gunpowder so thats bonus points) 3 - Two Towers (helm's deep, again with gunpowder) 4 - Die Hard (Nakatomi Plaza) 5 - Mars Attacks (almost everything, but including the houses of parliament, so thats bonus points) 6 - The Rock (alcatraz) 7 - Speed (a bus) 8 - Goldfinger (secret base, but with style!) 9 - Independance Day (the white house) 10 - The Seige (new york?) 11 - Die hard 3 (new york again?) Oddly can't think of that many films where london or the houses of parliament get blown up
Cmdr. Cracken
Independence day also blows up entire cities, not just the White House. If i recall, the first three cities to go in America are Washington D.C, New York, and Los Angeles. granted they start at important monuments, but i think Id4 should rank a bit higher on your list. PoM
I'll add "IT" to the list in replacement of those. Insane Sith is afraid of clowns!!!. Dude...That movie is freaky. Also, another necessary movie is The Nightmare before Christmas. Not scary at all, but it freaking owns! Who can resist Tim Burton? (Maybe better as a christmas movie? Or both? I can watch it on halloween and christmas!)

It was basically a rip-off of Dracula from the silent era. Nice. As for silent horror, there's also "The Golem" and "Phantom of the Opera" (Lon Chaney). Toss in the classic B&W horror flicks (sound era) in there, with Bela Lugosi as Dracula, Boris Karloff as the Mummy or Frankenstein's monster, and Lon Chaney Jr. as the Wolfman. Now moving into color... The original War of the Worlds movie (1950's). And toss in Christopher Lee as Dracula...

Hmm. Maybe. I was torn between putting the good movies at the top, and putting the ones with lots of stuff being blown up. Independence day suffered because its pants. (and because I only remembered it at the last minute and couldn't be bothered to re-number all the list...)
Nalukai
If you are making a "blow up " list then you have got to have Rock and Roll High School on it. It Stars The Ramones plus the kids blow a school up.
toms
Cool, I'll have to watch that. Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes Night, or Fireworks Night) is the 5th of November. It remembers the plot by Guy Fawkes and some other conspiritors to blow up the Houses of Parliament. They smuggled loads of barrels of gunpowder into the basement, but got caught before pulling it off. They were then hung, drawn, quartered and killed in a number of nasty ways. Its also known as the Gunpowder Plot. In the UK its probably a fair bit bigger than Halloween, although in most people's minds they are always linked because they are always a week apart. Its celebrated by making huge bonfires upon which you burn effigies of Guy Fawkes, and by massive firework displays. Sparklers, Toffee Apples and Candy Floss are also associated with bonfire night. Usually a lot of people go to huge organised displays (each town will have at least one), but this year i'm off to a friends house with a lot of people from work and we are going to do our own bonfire/fireworks in the garden. What with the festivals of Eid and Divalli falling nearby as well they sometimes get rolled in as part of a big "festival of light" type event. Kurgan
Ah yes, I was thinking of "Devil's Night" in Detroit, but that's not an official holiday (just thugs doing arson and vandalism) and has been declining in recent years thanks in large part to community activism. PoM
the Grudge I feel like agreeing with you. I watched it yesterday...And guess what. When i wasn't laughing because a bloody The Ring-girl was burping in whats-her-names phone, i was either bored or really confused. I guess i don't really find a the ring-girl who sounds like a frog and a cat-guy that scary. That movie can't have scared a 7 year old.

Cat-guy didn't scare me either, but I hate cats, so yeah. Ring was just totally stupid, I laughed through the entire thing. Grudge had your all inclusive stupid post gen x ending, and pissed me off the same, but at least there were moments in The Grudge where hairs stood up on the back of my neck. Any horror flick that wasn't made in the late 70's that can do that, deserves a few points.
toms
The bit that made me jump most in the Grudge was the bit where the the guy slipped in the blood on the floor. That was class.
