Campaign mission question…

The mission, Yavin 4; Vader’s fist strikes back. That is about the 2nd or 3rd to the last mission to complete SP campaign (It’s after completing the Rebel part of the SP campaign). There are several objectives, first you destroy several (4 or 5) large ships with the bomber, then 2 corvettes, then you destroy 10 enemy fighter ships (a-wings, x-wings, or y-wings). Easy enough, but then you have about 5 minutes (clock appears) to destroy about 4 heavy torrents on the main ship, then like 6 engines. Wow! This is tough! You pretty much have to use the bomber (the narration mentions it also) as it does the most damage at one time. Has anyone accomplished this? If so how! I have read about slowing down for bombing runs, and some other stuff, but you only can release so many bombs in one run. I HATE the idea of bypassing this mission, so of anyone has any specific advice/info about completing thie mission, your feedback would be appreciated.

I better mention that I have tried docking in the ship to destroy the engines that way, but you don't have access to open the doors once inside the ship.

it's simple, you don't slow up, it's doesn't do much

my bombing technique.....

1.go up to it and BOMB!!!!!!!!

2. boost away from the ship (until about half your sprint bar is gone), this is to get far away to turn, and escape shots fired at u

3. now turn around the classic way (manually) don't do that fancy flip move, it's useless for this

4. you bombs shuold be recharged, now BOMB!!!!!!

5. repeat until done....

works every time!!!!!!!!!!

Also, stay flip-side when attacking ships... there is less auto-turrets and sheet on the belly. (makes you wonder why a giant ship that never ever lands would have a belly side.)

Also, if you slow down once you start bombing, you might sometimes get to do a second set of bombs before you run away from the ship... depending on ship and mission.

Thanks for all the input, obviously it’s a little of everything mentioned since those passed that mission. Tried again tonight (after taking a night off which helps sometimes) and used the 's' (default) a lot more to slow down, while maximizing the boost for setting up next runs. I definitely noticed an improvement in my runs as things were being destroyed faster, but it's just that last damm 5 minute objective requirement. 4 heavy torrents, then 6 engines within 5 minutes works out to 30 seconds/target. Sounds easy thinking about it that way, but if 2 or 3 out of those 10 bombing runs are not perfectly targeted, you’re out of time. I know, practice practice practice.

Ok, the Yavin SPACE was easy compared to the Yavin ground battle... :(

I can't get pass the third command post. As soon as I take that third one the rebels keep attacking and my small force of soldiers are lost.

Any ideas on how to lick them?

I have difficulty on space missions, but ground battles are easy, even on elite(except Hoth)

Well, I just stay inside the viaduct and keep sniping/shooting, poking my head out for the Heath-Bot. You don't need to keep the CP blue, just to make sure it does not go red.

Also, if you have difficulty use engineer, he carries hie own Becta Tank for health. Snotgun sniping is not too bad at medium range either.

  • 4 weeks later...

that level is easy, as long as you change from the bomber to the interceptor- the basic tie fighter is a jack of all trades, master of nothing, and i only ever use them if thas all that is left and im in a hurry

also, just slow down, bomb, turn around, boost fully out, turn around manually and by the time you get to the bombing place your bombs are all recharged- my record time for that level is 3:49... any takers?

Well, one thing to know is that there IS up and Down in space, aka gravity. Its aligned to the ship. Bombing shots drops a bit downwards when shot. This makes bombing harder.

Also, stay at the belly of the ships while you are shooting at them, esp the escort ships. You can safely fly around w/o fear of turrets. I personally use ships with missiles rather than bombs, that way you can whoree out the belly blind spots, and take the escorts out quick, along with the life support and the shields (if you do not want to do it in-ship)
