The Doctor
I recently got Half Life 2 installed on my PC. The game is great even in the very beggining. I love it. The problem is, I'm lost. I never played the first Half Life game, and I have no idea what happens in it. I was wondering if the kind population (only the kind ones) would fill me in a little bit. Thanks, guys (and gals). The Doctor
Are the soldiers of the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit the guys with the white masks that act as the law enforcement in HL2? Or are they completely new characters?
Snafu7
I never played the first halflife but the guys in the white masks are the combine, so they're different.

JediKnight707
I never finishes HL1, but I did HL2, and that gave me some nudges as too what happened. From my collected knowledge: Gordon Freeman, the dude you play as, was some cool scientist guy that was working at Black Mesa (a place where scientists do experiments they shouldn't ) when an experiment goes wrong. These little gremlin dudes game out from like some parralel univerise. They got all pissy and started hating us, so they turned our dead into zombies (you'll face a ****load of these zombies in 'Chapter 6: We don't go to Ravenholm...' and a piece of advice, don't play that at midnight with the lights out). Then the military wants to kill you to cover it up...blah, blah, blah....HERES A BIG SPOILER THAT IS ALSO KINDA AT THE END OF HL2: You almost die, but some dude comes and stops time and like rescues you, and puts you into the future, hence the name 'Half-Life' So now your in the future where some guy gave us over to the 'Columbine' so we can have 'peace'. There ya go.
REDJOHNNYMIKE
Those little jumping crabs everywhere bite the heads of nice folks and sit where there head used to be and possess them, that's the zombies you see everywhere in both games, in HL2 the combine soldiers are like a trained version of those zombies. That's why it's a surprise when... A soldier takes it's mask off and instead of a crab sitting on bloody shoulder, it's actually Barney, the security guard from Half-Life
The Doctor
For those of you who have both palyed HL2 and read 1984, don't the civilizations seem very similar? The flying camera being the telescreens, the oppression, the strange police force (the thought police)... That's how I think of the game, anyway. stingerhs
^^^^ my understanding is that the idea of the story came from that novel. besides, what would an extremely oppressive government be without all those classic George Orwell elements??
