Chicago Cubs 2006

I thought the cruse of the goat was a little over blown; I have lived my entire life as a Houston sports fan. Now I understand Cub fans. When a team as bad as the Houston Astros takes two out of three from you, well you have my condolences. At least football season is not that far away for Chicago sports fans. In Houston we now suffer year round NFL, MLB and NBA; Houston teams are equal opportunity – terrible at everything.

Hey, Astros went to the World series last year--that's pretty successful to me. :) We'd kill to get to a World series even if we lost!

Since Houston is playing the Cards right now, go Astros! :xp:

OK, Cygnus, Capuano beat out Maddux--he pitched really well. But there's tomorrow!

There was an article on Cubs.com yesterday: "Hendry (the Cubs' GM) to Evaluate Team at Break". Well, what on God's green earth took you so darn long, Hendry? Should have done that in May! :fist:

Gotta love Cappy, he's had to step it up since we've lost Sheets this season.

The pitching staff has really been worked hard this year so far.

We'll see what the back-half has to offer. It's a race to October now.

These are the dark times. This is the dangerous time now, the time when teams would sell their own body parts for a wild card berth.

We're in store for some really good, competitive baseball now. Quite a few divisions are locked up right now with 4, 5, and 6 teams separated by a game or two.

Lock up the women and children. Jedi moms excluded of course. :syoda:

I don't know how long this will be true, but It's been a while since I could say this truthfully.

Here goes: (...takes a deep breath)

"It's July and the Brewers are still very much in the hunt!"

(Big, huge sigh and smile)

...oh, by the way Jae, I found an "I love Dusty" T-shirt for you, check E-Bay if you get the notion. :roll1:

Hey Cygnus, I am pretty sure it was ESPN, but they said the Brewers are one of the teams who are most likely to make a large run to make it to the playoffs, concerning Sheets maybe coming back soon. So, basically there saying the Brewers have the highest chance to make the playoffs in NL Central Division.

Well, the Cubs on the otherhand....

@Commander: You had to go and do it didn't ya?

You had to go and put the ESPN jinx on me.

Don't you realize that every time ESPN predicts something, the exact opposite usually happens.

Oh no, we're doomed.... :ball: Thanks alot Mr. Know-it-all. :disaprove

(Of course I'm kidding)

It would be special if they did, but, I'm not holding my breath. They're a year or so and a few players away from making a serious run. They need a little more consistant run production in the bottom of the line up and I still feel they need one more proven, 7 inning starter for the rotation.

Then, if eveyone's healthy and the rookies of this season learn a bit more, hey, who knows...

Perhaps, they can do some damage in their quest this year though. It'll be fun watching them try.

BTW, Has Pujols had his piss tested lately?

In the Good News and Bad News department:

Bad News--Kerry Wood's out, probably for the season with a torn rotater cuff--6 weeks off totally, then conservative rehab. Sucks to be Wood or a Cubs fan. Probably means Wood's gone once he hits free agency.

Great news--Cubs won 2 in a row! Will Cubs take the series in "Wrigley North" tomorrow? :D

I have to tell you though, I was surprised the games scores weren't something like 23-19 or some other ridiculously high number of runs. :)

Cubs won 3 in a row! If they win another one, it'll be a record streak for them for this year. Yeah, I know I have to 'wait 'til next year', but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Hey, Cygnus, if the Cubs can't make it and the Cards have the division sewn up, Brewers have a pretty good chance at the Wild Card, and as a good Wisconsinite, I of course have to root for the Brew Crew then. :)

Ah, Jimbo and I will have even more 'family harmony' if the Brewers and the Cards end up in the Nat'l league pennant race. :)

@JAE Nice series Cubbies - NOT!!! :evil5: AHHHHHHHH!!!!

Zambrano is an animal. After game three, I had a bad feeling. I wasn't able to get to a computer for a while to reply but, I followed the games. I'm glad I missed yesterday's game. Holy Toledo!

I was so perturbed, last night after the sports report, I simmed to the Cubbies game in my franchise on MLB 2K6,(acquiring 2 losses to do it) and had Cygnus and the rest of the 2009 Brewers pummel the Cubs at Wrigley.

Am I wrong? Doesn't feel wrong. :halo2:

I hope you're right about the (real)Brewer's chances. Personally, I think the pitching staff is suspect.

If the Brewers end up in the pennant race, you guy's will be battling at home, but I'll be in intensive care from a massive coronary. Could be interesting, we'll see.

Oh, by the way, don't fret about being a fan from another place. I happen to be a huge BEAR fan. (living in enemy territory for years)

Payton is my all-time favorite player. He's my socially accepted, sports defense shield when discussing football in Wisconsin.

Brett Favre is the biggest Bear killer of them all and verbal fencing usually begins with him when discussing the Bear/Packer rivalry. I can't really argue too much there.

However, I've ended many a debate with the sweet moves and grand career of perhaps the greatest running back in NFL history.

...at least IMO.

Training camp is soon to start.

Perhaps when the season starts, someone can initiate an NFL thread to trade opinions and predictions. I'm a huge NFL fan. GO BEARS!!!

Something to do while we impatiently wait for the non-upcomming news on the new KotOR game. :bored:

@JimboFett66 Please for the love of the force, don't tell me you're a Rams fan too. I can understand the Cards (almost), but I'm not sure I can stomach the Rams or are you a Packer lover?

Midway across this nation lies a lakeside, monsterous lair.

In it's breeze blows a warning: All you bayside Packers beware!

Bears all the way, baby! I did like the Rams until they got rid of Kurt Warner, but I have always loved Da Bears!

As for the Cards, it's a family thing. My dad grew up listening to the Cardinals and he got me hooked with his stories of how Joe "Ducky" Medwick was the last National League player to earn the Triple Crown, and of his two cousins, Jay and Paul, who pitched for the 1934 Gas House Gang. They actually won 49 games between the two of them, as well as the entire World Series. Check this link: http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stl/history/timeline3.jsp

Baseball traditions are great and different than football, so I guess I can let the Cardinal thing slide, for now. Or at least until the NLCS.

...as if the Brewers have a chance. dreamer

Baseball is the great American sport, and I love it, but I'm an Bearfan first and foremost. They really get sick of me up here and I temporarily lose some friends come September, but it's all good.

I'm looking forward with great anticipation for the upcomming season.

...I've got a good feeling about it.

Now, if they would just sign Briggs, I think I would sleep a little better at night.

Benson should have a breakout season and I'm expecting Grossman to snap.

..and I don't mean his leg.

He's got a lot to prove. This O-line should be able to get the job done and the D still looks very solid. I hear they keep Mike Brown chained outside of Halas Hall and throw him raw meat once in a while. He should be ready as well.

All this talk has got me excited for football, I think I'll go fire up the Madden for a while and beat up on the Carolina Panthers.

Cygnus, you should have seen Jimbo's reaction.

He was sitting at the computer, reading along very calmly and quietly, and all of a sudden I see him nearly jump out of the chair, exclaiming "What?!? Has Pujols had his p*ss tested?!?" It was followed by some other comments after that, but I was laughing so hard at his stunned indignation I couldn't hear them. :giggle1:

Well, they should test it immediately.

Not because of steroids mind you, but to see if if the dude's human.

While they're at it, they need to check his blood and DNA as well.

...and if they can, they need to try to stick a piece of Kryptonite next to him and see what happens. I'll bet he passes out.

I just hope in his tyrade, Jimbo didn't wake the kids. :tsk::shades2:

You know, that reminds me of Adolph Hitler's reaction to Jesse Owens' performance at the 1936 Olympic Games. He had a hard time believing any human could run so fast.

Ah, the Maddux/Clemens matchup was good. It would have been even better if the Cubs had won. :) Sigh....

I'm not Catholic, but I think I've decided that being a Cubs fan must be God's way of creating Purgatory here on Earth.

God: Joe, you did a pretty good job, but you did some bad things too, you have to hang out in Purgatory for awhile to make amends.

(Joe leaves)

God: Jae, you did a pretty good job and some bad things too, so you'll have to do som Purgatory time. Oh, wait, it says here you were a true blue Cubs fan. OK, you did your time, you get to go straight to Heaven. You'll love it here--the Cubs win all the World Series.

:)
