Some of you may have played The Longest Journey, and so you know that Ragnar Turnquist is very good at writing cool stories. You may also know that Dreamfall is the sequel to The Longest Journey, and Ragnar wrote the script. :) I've been waiting for a loong time, and from what I've played so far (about an hour), it's excellent. Gamespy has given it a 5/5, Xbox Addict 9.6/10, Gamespot 8.1/10, and its ratings on almost every other site is around 80-90%.

So, Dreamfall is awesome. Anyone else have it?

This will be a true Norwegian arisk game. Read it was getting very mixed reviews though...
Basically every single site other than 1up.com gave it 70% or above:

1up's review:

I think that 1up's reviewer is probably just an action junky; he doesn't seem to understand the game is just not about the (admittedly crappy) action parts. The points he makes are relevant and I even agree with him to an extent, but he focuses on those faults too much and ignores the rest.

Played some more and it's getting better... :D

I'm interested, and if they had it at Best Buy or Walmart or EBGames when I was there the last two days I would have bought it.

I hadn't played an adventure game since Myst on the Mac (hint: it was on the Mac for more than a year before it hit the PC), but after playing Indigo Prophecy earlier in the year I've been doing more. I finished Daemonica, and am working through Keepsake and Scratches. I'll definitely give this a try.

I never played the longest journey, I know you loaded it on my compy at like 3 AM and we were going to play...

Myst for mac = really really awesome.

Riven = Kicks Myst for Mac back to 1903

I know what side of the line I am on

I have been looking at the sites for this (in between hours of oblivion) and got interested, but I am short on dollars :(

Hrm, I've never played it. I am in the mood for some adventure games. Last one I played was Indigo Prophecy for the XBOX. Who knows what it was before that.

I found Syberia 1 and 2 for $10 a pop at WalMart and am tempted, though am not sure my PC can run it. I don't pay that much money for adventure games because not many are replayable. Sam and Max rocks so I would have gotten the sequel when it would have been released.

There is another Sam n Max game coming out soon... though it doesn't look as impressive as the old Sam n Max 2 did before it got cancelled.

I thik the Broken Sword games were supposed to be quite good. I've got one sat on my xbox, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.

Does dreamfall in any way follow on from Longest Journey? or is it a different character/story by the same people?

It does follow the same story, just about ten years later. It has new characters and several old ones from TLJ that have minor roles.

Some thoughts on Dreamfall:

1: Be prepped for a LOT of cutscenes. It has more than TLJ, and less running around.

2: No hard puzzles. That's too bad; I loved trying to figure out what the heck I was supposed to use that stupid duck for in TLJ (which was completely non-intuitive, lol). The puzzles in Dreamfall are very smoothly integrated into the game, which is good.

3: Fighting bits = terrible.

4: The story is at first a little uninteresting, but it picks up. You just have to wait for it. One point was rather bad though, and that was with a bit of romance. It was like watching a cheesy soap opera. I don't like soaps. :p

5: I found myself wondering what the heck happened to April from TLJ. She's rather different... I think some of my enjoyment from this game is probably from being able to see what the deal was with her.

6: You should play The Longest Journey before you play Dreamfall. It will explain a lot of things that might not be obvious if you only played Dreamfall.

I still haven't finished it, so I can't comment on the end, but I'm almost there - chapter 10. We'll see how it goes. :)

AAARGH!

I just finished it (took me 12 1/2 hours) and it's really exciting, but it ends with

CLIFFHANGERS EVERYWHERE!

It's definitely a setup for a sequel. I'm gonna have to wait for the next one... again... :p

Anyways: good game. One thing made me annoyed though...

April gets stabbitted! I hope she's not dead, 'cause that'd be just mean of Ragnar...

Wow, that isn't really a lot for a SP only game IMO.
Better than a movie ticket. $3/hr for Dreamfall (not counting replay), but about $4.50/hr for a movie here. I don't feel cheated, and yes, it is comparable to a 12 hour movie - think of watching all three LotR's at once, with interactivity (the story is not quite so good as LotR, but you get the picture). :)
