Neverwinter Nights 2

A bit of a stupid question really but: Who is looking forwards to the release of this game and why? BioWare really made an excellent game with the first (Even if the opening sequence was... awful) and I just hope that Obsidian can equal, or top that performance with their own style and experience added to the classic formula.

Just looking at the screenshots on the webpage makes me drool - and that is hard to do. And the plus point for a forum full of modders and people who download mods: the toolset looks better than ever - which would probably sell the game to me even if it was awful :p.

So what do you think? Will NwN2 be a success or a failure? And why do you want to buy it, or not buy it as the case may be.

Link for reference ;)

This game will dominate my so-called-life for several months if not years (like the original, I played it for 3 years straight)...

Just from the screenies and reading up the follow-up reports, they've completely re-vamped the tool-set so that after I've played the main quest several billion times (for class/race combos) the game can be modded beyond the abilities that the current tool-set can do... and that's saying ALOT :D

NWN2 will be a success, at least I hope it will.. but I can guarantee that they will have at least one customer... (me).. hehehe :xp:

How successful the game will be in the long run probably depends a lot on how moddable it will be. Which in part will depend on what extra modelling tools, aside from the standard Toolset, Obsidian will release.

It seems they've managed to piss of DLAdventures already so it's no sure bet a NWN2 version of NWMax will be produced. Being unable to create new models for the game will seriously hinder any larger modding projects or long term appeal of the modding community, so I hope Obsidian puts some effort into making and releasing decent tools of their own in that regard.

I haven't heard of this one. Mind posting a link to a reference - not that I don't trust you, you understand, but I'm interested in this. It will be a great whack to the community if we cannot create new models very easily. I was a bit worried myself by the fact that they thought the DM client wasn't essential for the release and with Atari undergoing all these monetary difficulties I worry about patches and so forth. I'm still hopeful though, the previews look good and I can live in a dream world can't I?

I don't have a link saved, but there was a fair bit of discussion about it a few weeks ago in the NWN community. It shouldn't be too hard to find information about it on bioware's forums or the DLAdventures site. Apparently Atari canceled, without notice, some pretty big planned Premium modules for NWN that were fairly close to release that the DLAdventures team had been working on.

They apparently thought it took too much focus away from NWN2, since it had fully ridable horses or some such that NWN2 does not have. The DLA people didn't seem too happy about this and were contemplating moving on to other games than the NWN series from what I understood of the discussion.

That said, in this case you'd do well not to trust what I say too blindly since I only keep a lazy eye on the NWN community nowadays. I may well have misunderstood what was going on. So many games, so little time to play (with) them. :)
