Master|Tubbs
Guys, I am wondering and im going to take your opinion... which is the best Jedi Knight Game in the triology? & does it compare to KOTOR or KOTOR:2? jw
Boba Rhett
Wait, what? The best Jedi Knight game is Dark Forces II. It's my favorite game ever, actually. You cannot compare the Jedi Knight series to the KotOR series. Both are very good for different reasons.
Master|Tubbs
What is Dark Forces II about?
Boba Rhett
It's about Kyle Katarn discovering that he has force powers. Random coolness: It has acted out cutscenes which many were glad to see die but which I really really loved. Be warned, it's from 1997 so it's not exactly beautiful by todays standards. Try to look past that.
Master|Tubbs
Ya ive heard of the acted out cut scenes, baring in mind that i didn't even know what a computer was in 1997 i am still a bit freaked out with the acting thing but it sounds cool. I think i might get academy instead, it has the best graphics out of them all and i love the fact that u can create your own lightsaber. By the way are they making any new Jedi Knight games. I would like to see some of them revisited.
Boba Rhett
None we know of yet. I really wish they'd redo the first two but that's somewhat of a pipe dream. Do you have to KotOR games yet? If not, check those out before Academy.
Master|Tubbs
I have the first KotOR but I just got a new computer and I am going to get a new graphics card installed today. It is a pretty fun game but for $9.99 Jedi Academy sounds like a good buy. They could also add on to the games to make them a bit longer but otherwise keep them the same. Lantzen
If you dont have Kotor:TSL i would get that. But JA is a good game, well worth to buy, have had many hours fun game time with that game
Master|Tubbs
I have ordered JA and am anticipating its arrival, but at the same time I am trying to find a way to get a better video card for my labtop without having to buy a new one so I can play KotOR. BongoBob
Isn't that impossible? I thought the GPU on laptops are built into their mobos. Anyhow, I still play DF II. I'm goin through the evil way again
Master|Tubbs
It is impossible unless you get an external monitor and video card but that ruins the point of having a labtop. What are the video card recommended requirements for JA?
MrWally
You need a video card that has at least 32 MB VRAM.
TK-8252
and i love the fact that u can create your own lightsaber. Well, it's actually not anything amazing... you choose the color of the blade, and you choose the hilt from a selection of maybe five or six pre-made designs. It's not like you actually "build" it yourself. You just choose your design from a limited menu, that's it.
MrWally
but it's a lot more decision in comparison to the previous games. At least you have the choice of A normal lightsaber, double bladed, and dual lightsabers
TK-8252
At least you have the choice of A normal lightsaber, double bladed, and dual lightsabers Yes, but only later in the game.
MrWally
True, man, I should really go back in beat that... I never actually did because of a Hard Drive failure waaaay back when, then I never reinstalled it.
toms
Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are reasonably fun, not very deep Third person action games with some not bad saber action. JA is better imho, JO has bad guns and therefore the wait to get the saber is boring. The level design, plot and enemies aren't going to win any awards... but if you want a quick blast then they aren't bad. KOTOR games are better imho, but they are very different. Not action games at all but RPGs. The best thing about the KOTOR games is the dialogue, characters, atmosphere and the story. the branching is very well done. The actual RPG stats elemets are pretty badly done.. most being unbalanced and useless. BUt it doens't matter because the atmosphere is so spot on. IMHO Dark Forces 2 is the best JK game. (JK1 if you will). For its time it had by far the best story, the best rectration of the starwars feel, the best mix of FPS and RPG elements etc.. ITs pretty dated now, but its still probably my fave FPS (with the possible exceptions of Half Life and Deus EX)
Prime
It really depends in your gameplay preferences. That being said, I think KOTOR is better overall. Both are worth playing though.
