Negative Sun Posted July 19, 2006 Posted July 19, 2006 Make an animated .gif image out of a short movie clip (.mpg, .avi, .vob, etc...)? Any (if possible free) programs anyone can recommend?
Jeff Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 You take screenshots of it frame by frame, then paste them in to your image editor over each other on different layers. I don't really know how to do it without using photoshop and imageready, so I can't really help you with free software. EDIT: actually, I wanna say in Gimp you just say save as animation or something like that after you get all your images layered correctly, but don't take my word for it. Gimp is probably the best free image editor.
Det. Bart Lasiter Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Adobe Premiere Pro. Export video only as a GIF then optimize and re-compress with ImageReady. There are free trials of both.
toms Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 But please don't make 1mb gif sigs like a lot of people here... i keep having to adblock people's sigs just to get the pages to load up in a reasonable time....

A friend of mine is gone on holiday and I'm using his computer (and also watching after his plants lmao), he's got photoshop but I don't understand a bloody thing of it? Could you explain it to me how to do it? (more or less will do) I'm just interested in working with animations, how to take them from video files like .mpeg and turn them into smaller animated .gif images...
BasiliskJC Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 I believe you can do that with macromedia. Just import the vid and save as a gif. I think you can also set the frame interval too. Does your friend have macromedia?
TiE23 Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 ...how to take them from video files like .mpeg and turn them into smaller animated .gif images... mpegs are smaller. .Gifs are mean't to only last a few seconds tops. You can't 'compress' a movie into gif. Besides, there is no sound.

I don't care about the sound or anything, I know they're only meant to last a few secs...all I want to be able to do is make something like these: Someone has made these video clips into these little gifs, I just want to be able to do the same...
MTV2 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 look around here: http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/Adobe_Photoshop/All/ then also look at the macromedia flash tuts to see if you find it. Adobe premiere pro is prolly the best, get a trial.
TiE23 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Adobe Image Ready. It comes with Photoshop. Try getting a trial. Open the mpg with it and then you can take parts from it and make it into a .gif From there you can optimize it and stuff.
CapNColostomy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Whoah! You have just created the most metal band in the universe!

coupes. Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Alright, once and for all, Macromedia is a company, not a software. They make software such as Flash, Director, Freehand, Dreamweaver and Fireworks. However they have now been bought by Adobe, who is also a company that makes software, not a software itself.[/rant]

Once you get it installed, pm me, and I will walk you through it.
Negative Sun Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 YAY I did it...I found a old disc with a program on it called paint shop pro 7, which has Animation Shop 3 with it, and it's just brilliant, very easy to use... I also discovered Fraps to take screenshots rapidly to get all the frames I need for animations...w000t lol
Negative Sun Posted August 2, 2006 Author Posted August 2, 2006 Whoah! You have just created the most metal band in the universe! Yeah Wolverine's quite the vocalist
