Wii good to go?

I personally can't wait. And my parents are excited about it too, even my dad is interested in it.

It sucks that you'll have to pay for the opera browser though, and 60 bucks for a controller is a little pricey. But hopefully, on November 19th, we'll get a wii, an extra wiimote and nunchuk, and Zelda and Mario.

God I can't wait.

That looks cool (even with the guy jumping around and eating sushi!).

There is a Metroid 3 preview which says they seem to have nailed the FPS controls: http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732737p1.html

I'm waiting for the video to download.. but ign vids always take days for me for some reason.. sigh..

Aright... what I like, what I don't like... but obviously can live with since I've already committed myself to buying Wii + games, etc... lol

Price - 250USD.... that will equal to about 330AUD down here... which I don't like... but it does come with Wii Sports, so it does make up for it. I'm satisfied with the price, but not overly excited, I would've loved to see it sell for 199USD.

Game Price - 50USD for first party games = good.

One colour - I wanted a black Wii, but I can live with white...

Accessory prices - Not so good... for one thing, I'm okay with the classic controller price... however the biggest hit comes from the fact that the Wiimote and Nunchaku attachment are sold as SEPARATE items. This is extremely bad since there are a lot of games that need players to have both items. Plus it works out to be pretty expensive, 40USD for the Wiimote, 20USD for the Nunchaku attachment... 60USD. Not good.

Region-Free - So far Nintendo has confirmed that all first-party games will be region free. Great news, however third-party developers can choose to region lock their games if they want to. I hope that third party developers follow Nintendo on this one and not region lock their games.

No DVD playback - I already have a DVD player, and it's a good one... and to be honest, Wii wouldn't make a good DVD player in the first place since it doesn't support digital audio connections.

Channels - Love this idea, it's keeping things very simple with a concept that everyone who owns a TV knows and understands.

Mii - lol.

Photo channel - Nice, but don't need it. Can't see any real use for it sine I have a PC that can do a much better job of such things XD But I'm sure the normal folk out there will appreciate this feature... one things for sure though, it's gonna work extremely well with that SD card slot in the front of the console. *nods*

Wii Store channel - Gonna be spending a bit o cash in there XD

Opera browser - People in Japan will be able to download it for free till July 2007, the rest of us will have to buy it for the Wii Store channel.

30 Virtual Console titles at launch - Excellent, 30 is a good start, to be honest I'm not gonna whine about virtual console titles since it's not the meat of the console, anyone who does needs to turn their head to the actual Wii games being released. I've heard that Nintendo plans to release 10 additional VC titles every month, so their library will grow at a nice pace.

Virtual Console prices - Acceptable, I was expecting a price point at this level so I have no complaints. Anyone who really wants to play those retro games will pay the price to play them. I know I would. First game I'll be downloading will be Super Metroid! :D 5USD = NES, 8USD = SNES, 10USD = N64.

Wii points - I like the options given to purchase VC titles... I know A LOT of us will use the cash card or "Wii points card" option which we all can buy at retail.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption delay - I have no problem with it being delayed, I would've LOVED a Zelda + Metroid launch, but I also want a kickass game, which means that Retro should take all the time it needs to get the game right.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption controls - Good news! It's been updated! Expert mode is said to be extremely kickass and is near PC mouse/keyboard style.

Right-handed Link - XD I thought this was pretty funny. Link is right handed for the Wii version of Twilight Princess.

Twilight Princess GCN release date - While TP Wii is being released along side Wii on Nov 19th, TP GCN is being released on Dec 11th. I plan to get both versions of TP.

Red Steel - Is lookin f***in awesome :D :D You can really see the improvements Ubisoft made to the game since E3 in the new trailer.

There are a lot of other stuff I wanna comment on but I can't cause I gotta head off....

I beleive the browser will be free to download until summer 2007, so if you plan on getting one before that you shouldn't have a problem with this.

About the controllers, I too feel they're kinda pricey, but when you think about it, the technology inside is probably more much expansive than say, anx xbox controller's. Also, it's worth noting the wiimote is really 40$ and the nunchuck $20. I assume that most "party" games or games that are meant for 3 or 4 players will only require the use of the wiimote, so you probably won't need 4 nunchucks units anyhow.

Also, something people tend to forget about the Wii, is total backward compatibility with every GCN games, unlike Xbox's backward compatibility, as well as free online play. If you think about it, a Live subscription can cost up to $50/year so if you plan on playing online games for say 5 years, the Wii would offer a $250 + $100 if you only have the core version. So, to me the $250 price tag seems faire for the Wii, even if I had hopes for a lower price.

This doesn't exactly related to the topic, but maybe it does. Since somebody already owns it.

How do I know? Well, I'm watching the Ellen Degeneres Show right. And there is was a blind boy who can see things through sound. Anyways, he can play video games and sports like us. So, to the point, Nintendo gave him a Wii. Eventhough it's 2 months from its release.

Amazing person, though.

Agreed. Though I do think they should have bundled another wiimote for $250. (If the wiimote is $40 and they add another one then they are still selling the console for $210 which is more than the $199 price mentioned at one point.)

It sounds like they intend the "getting to know Wii" (or whatever its called) pack to be the standard way for people to add an extra wiimote.

AUSTRALIA Wii DETAILS

Release date: 7 December 2006

Price: 399.95 AUD

F*** you Nintendo, that's not cool. I'll pay your bulls*** price, but know this, you HAVE pissed me off... and I don't care if it does include Wii Sports, the idea of it being 400 bucks just pisses me off so much!

By comparison, how much is a 360?

Crap thats a AUD$70 mark up on the us prices. ****.

$400 is definitely excessive, but yeh i can afford it. Whats gonna kill me is the additional controller. I can appreciate that the controller is a lot more advanced than ur standard next-gen controller, but dang im gonna be payin over $500ish for a 2nd controller (with nunchuk) and zelda.

I wonder if importing controllers and 1st-party games would be cheaper...

So then:

Wii in america = $250 = £133

Wii in japan = 25,00yen = £113 (plus £22 for wii sports = £145

Wii in australia = 399AUD = £160

Wii in europe = 249e = £169

Wii in UK = £179

UK always gets screwed on these things :(

[edit] And of course the obligatory-in-any-thread-about-consoles:

It's quite amazing.

The prices of the Wii and everything else includeing the game seems reasonable to me. I have enough for it at the moment and by the time it si released I will have much more.

Wii games will not be region-free according to Nintendo UK's General Manager David Yarnton. Speaking exclusively with IGN at Nintendo's European Wii press event in London, Yarnton confirmed that Wii games and online content will be region-encoded, meaning European gamers won't be able to play titles from the US and Japan and vice-versa.

The news follows contradictory comments made by Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Marketing and Affairs, which IGN reported on yesterday.

:(

If you need an extra controller then you can pick up "My First Wii" or "Getting started with Wii" or "Wii Play" or whatever its called. That is less than a normal game and comes with a bundled controller.

Though, considering the console is called We (implying plural), the logo has 2 iis that i thought were supposed to be two people playing together, and all that mumbo jumbo they brought out about why it was called Wii i'd have thought they might have had two official bundles.. one with a single controller and one with two).

Still, i guess the retailers will probably add to the bundles.
