Samnmax221
Is Eric going to explain that comic strip? The philosophy includes not compromising your goals for the convenience of others. The rest I can't say.

Have I told you to read Watchmen yet? The part about compromising reminded me of it.

itchythesamurai
Oh, in that case: you should read Watchmen.
SyntheticGerbil
Alan Moore pisses me off in general, using fancy speech for absolutely no reason at all in everything he does. It bothers me off when I read a quote by him on the back of a Jim Woodring comic and he uses the phrase "not unlike." That's such a pretentious thing to say. Jesus man, just say "like." I think he's compensating for the fact that he's not an artist. At least he's not as annoying as Doug TenNapel. But I guess I'll have to end up collecting Alan Moore one day with all the hype he gets, but there's a lot of other honest guys that don't constantly get their stuff optioned for movies that I'd rather deal with first. itchythesamurai
How do you feel about Frank Miller, Sean?
SyntheticGerbil
I like him but he should do less mainstream superhero comics. But I hate Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez and I wish they all never got associated. Because now Sin City 2 and 3 will come out and the only thing people will blab about for years is how suddenly they are into independent comics because they saw some horrible overproduced movie based on an independent comic. itchythesamurai
I loved the books and the movie, I'm glad the film exists, even if I can't be as elitist about my interests. Really excited about 300 coming out in about three months.
SyntheticGerbil
Well I'm not that elitist, in fact you've managed to pick the two guys in comics I sort of have the biggest problems with. THANKS A LOT MAN! But I don't think I ever look forward to comic book movies.
itchythesamurai
Ha, I geek out about comic book movies and get to lord over any of my friends who are at least mildly interested in seeing the films. Afterwards, I get to be snide about how the movie was unfaithful and proceed to recommend the source material. It's a nice little setup I have. SyntheticGerbil
Like Hellboy? That one halfway pissed me off. Ghost World was okay, but I like Art School Confidential even though it's lightly based on the comic.
itchythesamurai
Hellboy? Hell naw, that movie sucked. Never really got into the comics either. Did you happen to see the pilot for Amazing Screw-on Head? I thought that looked pretty entertaining.
SyntheticGerbil
Yeah I downloaded that one. That one is really cool. Too bad it's not a movie.
itchythesamurai
That shiz better got picked up as a series. Sci-Fi needs a quality boost.
SyntheticGerbil
I think at the moment it's only coming out on a DVD in February.
itchythesamurai
As in just the pilot or did they make more episodes? Kinda dinky to sell a DVD with only a pilot on it.
SyntheticGerbil
Yeah it's just a pilot on the DVD, probably with some features, so it is pretty dinky. LIKE DINKY ISLAND.
itchythesamurai
Did you know that Dinky Island got retconned? Even classic adventure games aren't safe these days.
Det. Bart Lasiter
Sorry I'm late I had better things to do. Anyway, I got a nice list of bad **** that happened on December 7th: 1917 The U.S. declared war on Austria-Hungary in World War I. 1941 The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. 1975 Indonesia invaded East Timor, leading to a 25-year occupation. 1988 A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Armenia, killing 25,000. itchythesamurai
But the birth of Eric is fair compensation. Don't think that's even up for debate.
SyntheticGerbil
I had to look up retconned, but I still don't know what happened to Dinky Island. "Since 1998, Retconned's dry synthetic sneer and total disinterest in the artless mimicry of so-called punks has been misunderstood as a gimmick and saddled with inappropriate labels like "performance art" and "experimental." There is nothing artful about the momentary absolutism of a Retconned performance and nothing experimental about turning up the distortion. Retconned writes songs about people trying to get by. Retconned has released several pieces of plastic that have numbers on them (like floppy discs, but round). These numbers can be converted into music with the help of a few garden variety electronic devices. You, the potential listener, are invited to skip a step, ignoring the distribution of pieces of plastic (as well as the distribution of pieces of green paper) and borrow a song until the song stops borrowing you. Retconned performed live in places like Brooklyn, Bristol, Swarthmore, Knoxville, Winterthur, Pensacola, Neubrandenberg, Orlando, Nottingham, Ft. Lauderdale, Limerick, Johnson City, Hachtel, Richmond, Lehigh Valley, Leeds, Hollywood (FL), Halle, Kraval, Athens (GA), Schwyz, Laussane, Dunquerqe, Gallway, Lancaster, Zelezniki, and Atlanta. Results were mixed."
