Du Man
When the gf network site gets redone, will they be including Chaosman's ripped tracks instead of just the mp3s? I still have all of his tracks on my computer in their various formats.

DeadYorick
A lot of the hidden music is just like 3 seconds long and I doubt you would want to listen to it
Colossal
most of the good stuff in life is short - as people say also you can't judge or appreciate music by its length

Du Man
Well there was one track that Frankiee really liked that peaked my interest, but don't if it's too much trouble. I should probably try figuring out how to rip tracks from the game on my own anyway.
Frenkieee
But didn't chaosman already provide these in wav and ogg-format? I forgot to download these when I had the chance, but there must be someone who could upload them for us.
Du Man
From what I have, he only provided ogg files of the original soundtrack, not the game rip. I really hope they host Chaosman's tracks on the updated gf network site, otherwise if someone can send me some good, free, permanent hosting sites that don't have a lot of advertisements or ask for a lot of personal information, I consider uploading them from my computer. Thrik
Yeah, it was the soundtrack CD that was provided in high quality. Unfortunately no high-quality copies of the music not on the CD exist. The files in the game itself are relatively low quality, and very clearly inferior to the pristine quality of the soundtrack CD. As all rips are at least as bad quality as the in-game files, you're never going to find quality on par with the soundtrack CD. Another reason why I said I'd love a Grim Fandango remaster. Colossal
I've heard that there are audio programs that remove noise but I don't know how much effective they are still a high quality is high quality
Thrik
Software can remove noise, but really it's not going to help. The problem isn't noise (hissing or humming), but compression. The GF soundtrack was compressed a lot so it would fit onto two CDs (Imagine how many CDs it'd take if it were all the same quality as the official soundtrack CD!). Unfortunately, compression is a one-way thing: once that data is gone, it's lost forever. The only way to retreieve it is to get hold of the files before they were compressed -- or in other words, before they were ever put on the game CDs. As nobody outside of LucasArts has access to those original master copies there's not much we can do. It all depends on your audio equipment, of course. If you're not listening to the Grim Fandango music through high-fidelity speakers and amplifiers, chances are you won't notice the quality difference. High-fidelity stuff really brings out the compression though, and you can hear the sound being distorted. I suppose the best comparison is to a video on something like YouTube. Once YouTube compresses it into a Flash video, the quality is gone forever. You'd need the original video from the author before he uploaded it to get the high-definition stuff. Frenkieee
So there is in fact only one thing to do: create a massive petition in which we ask (maybe even beg? ) LucasArts to provide the original master copies. Chances of success are very slim I guess..
Colossal
^ it could be possible, LucasArts might make the CD for the 10 anniversary its a cheap investment for them and an extra publicity is always good for a game company
