"Haar'chak."

"Shara such bad language, by the way I didn't know you spoke Mando'a."

As he was walking he heard Evelyn's voice in his head.

"To not care and to enjoy are different things, and I never for one moment would suggest the latter. You, perhaps, do not understand me either if you would jump to such conclusions."

Kevak contacted her once more with the force.

"It seems we both don't understand the other. I'd like us to get to know or at least understand another. The last thing we need to do is be at each other's throats all the time. So if you're not too busy when I get back, perhaps we can talk."

The Soldier began to squrim again but stopped when Kevak looked at him. He continued walking through the woods hoping to find this base soon. He next spoke to Thryyn on the comlink

"Thryyn alert me if anything tries to get us from behind."

"Thryyn alert me if anything tries to get us from behind."

"Roger, that." Thryyn said, into his comlink. "Be aware, we're likely to hit some commo jamming soon. Thryyn out."

He placed his comlink back in his pocket and started darting his eyes back and forth along the forest floor, looking for... something.

There, movement!

"Kevak, it looks like something's following us... I don't know if it's some dumb beast or a scout... I'm checking it out with my scope now, remind me to grab some binos when we get back to the Glider"

Drawing out his sniper rifle, he looked down the scope at the... thing following them.

"Kevak, tell me everything you know about Rancors, everything... you wouldn't believe what I just found... this far away from its natural habitat."

"Shara such bad language,"

"You haven't heard anything yet." She said grinning.

"By the way I didn't know you spoke Mando'a."

Shara nodded, and shrugged. "I guess there's more to me that people realize. My father was Mandalorian. My mother wasn't though. You can imagine how that turned out..." She paused, grimly. "She was mad when he left to fight in the Wars. I was too. I think she was glad when he died though." She fell silent, walking next to Kevak, and continued to watch the canopy.

Before he had taken Shara for a cowardly bounty hunter with a big mouth but getting to know her she was much better than that. She somehow grew on him and was now highly trusted. He put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"It's okay cyar'ika, your father went down with honor and his spirit lives on in you."

"Kevak, tell me everything you know about Rancors, everything... you wouldn't believe what I just found... this far away from its natural habitat."

"I know the sith tried to use them to distract the jedi long enough for those cowards to get their kills and my guess is this one came from the base... or else where"

He took out his saber and sliced off the Sith Soldier's hand. He threw the body behind Thryyn and picked up your hand.

"We're going to need to move fast, I want everyone who's got some kind explosive to place it on the ground right now. When we get far enough I want Thryyn, Shara, and anyone else who's got a sniper to shoot at the explosives trap. If that doesn't kill it, it will run away I'm positive and if that doesn't work then I'll hold it off and catch up with you guys at the base."

"Got it." Thryyn said, looking at the laser rangefinder on his scope.

He dug in his pockets, hoping to find something... but only came up with some fragmentation grenades. Hmmm....

He armed the grenades with a timer and looked into his scope, again looking at the rangefinder. "Kevak, this sucker's moving at about fourteen kilometer's an hour... He'll be here in about ten minutes if he can keep this up."

Setting the timer to ten minutes, Thryyn dashed away from the explosives and towards where Kevak had gestured.

"Vor entye." She said quietly, and gave him a small half smile.

"Kevak, tell me everything you know about Rancors, everything... you wouldn't believe what I just found... this far away from its natural habitat."

"No way." She said glancing at the com that had just crackled to life. "A rancor... Here? He can't be serious." She said looking at Kevak.

"Yes sir!" Shara called, and rumaged around on her person. She pulled out two flash mines and three frag mines. "That'll work." She grinned, Shara always did love explosions. She set her mines next to Thryyn's following his example. She sprinted after him and kneeled down, watching the future explosion site through her rifle scope. The last words of Kevak's order stuck in her mind though,

"If that doesn't kill it, it will run away I'm positive and if that doesn't work then I'll hold it off and catch up with you guys at the base."

Without thinking she turned and called to Kevak, "With all due respect sir I'm not leaving you behind. If you stay, so am I."

Aeran stayed near the back the whole time and kept his eye on the prisoner, he felt a bit useless to of volunteered to deal with him but someone had to do it.

As he saw the charges placed, he slowly moved towards behind Kevak and looked on as the explosives were about to go off, he then got his knife ready for the unfortunate prisoner.

Aeran nodded at him "Make your peace, you're about to die a soldier's death." He said.

'I must of touched a nerve when I asked Thyrrn about his past' Aeran thought back briefly.

"Make your peace, you're about to die a soldier's death."

"Make the kill quick Aeran and place the body infront of those explosives, we need bait to lure the rancor and that will do it."

Kevak looked down at the pile that lay before him and dropped two thermal detonators and a small mine.

"With all due respect sir I'm not leaving you behind. If you stay, so am I."

"I admire your bravery Shara but that's only a last resort, I have a good feeling this thing will either die or run off" Kevak said as he joined the rest of the group.

The trees began to shake as the rancor got closer until it was in view.

"Aeran get out of there now, once he's back here with us I want anyone with a sniper to shoot those explosives"

"Aeran get out of there now, once he's back here with us I want anyone with a sniper to shoot those explosives"

Thryyn looked at the treeline as the Rancor burst through and involuntarily whistled at it's size. The beast was a good twelve meters tall and, from it's looks, was hungry enough to eat a good-sized village.

"Why the hell did I sign up for this again?" Thryyn muttered to himself as he brought the explosives into sight on his sniper.

"Wait for it." He said aloud to the two snipers on either side of him. "Wait for it." He took in a breath and let it out slowly. "Alright, let's take that shot!" Instead of immediately taking the slack of his trigger, he emptied his lungs completely of air.

Watching the blackness creeping in around his vision, Thryyn allowed the brief calm he gained to keep his movements as still as possible... and hit his trigger.

Crack

The projectile sped out of his rifle like a bat out of hell, and time almost seemed to slow down for Thryyn...

... then the blackness came almost too close and his head was pounding, he could feel individual seconds like they were hours, and no breath could be taken...

... it was almost rapture, this beautiful sensation... he was so close to this...

... to this...

...to...

...

Aeran dumped the body right in front of the explosives, and heard a low snarl followed by a roar, he began to sprint back to cover where the rest of the group where.

He briefly looked back to see a hulk of a rancor come out and slowly sniff the body, it had worked, he dived in behind the group, took out another Rifle and got ready to shoot incase the explosives didnt finish the job.

"Alright, let's take that shot!"

Shara focused on the explosives and pulled the trigger just as Thryyn did.

There was a split second of complete silence that seemed to last for an eternity. Shara looked up in that second and saw a white bird flying from the tree above her.

Then there was a bright flash of intense light followed by a cracking, ear breaking noise. Just as soon as the white light faded, she felt the heat from the explosion as the smoke and fire came into view.

"Did we get it!? Is it gone!?" She cried out, screaming above the noise. She glanced around, Thryyn didn't look too good, they hadn't been that close to the explosion, it shouldn't have hurt anyone.

Her adrenaline still pumping through her viens Shara frantically looked for the other members of the party, and for the sign of the rancor.

"Alright, let's take that shot!"

Kevak watched as the snipers aimed at the explosive pile and fired. the shots rang out and hit the explosives causing a giant explosion to light the place up. Kevak felt the heat of the explosion from where he was standing and stepped back a bit. He looked around at the group and eyed up Thryyn he seemed like he was about to pass out. Kevak moved over to him as quickly as he could.

"Thryyn! Stay awake Thryyn! come on soldier stay with me!" Kevak yelled at Thryyn trying to keep him awake.

The explosion was over and the smoke began to clear... they were about to find out if it was dead or not.

((Should the rancor be alive or dead?))

"Thryyn! Stay awake Thryyn! come on soldier stay with me!"

Huh? The voice seemed to be coming from far away...

...But, the lights! They were so...

"Thryyn! Stay awake Thryyn! come on soldier stay with me!"

The voice came again, this time Thryyn felt himself take in a blessed breath of air, suddenly the world came into sharp focus.

Without a word, Thryyn stood up, patted himself down, and then reached into his backpack for a Med-pack. Finding it, he opened it up and found a spray labeled: Kohler Laboratories, pressing the spray against his neck he hit the trigger and let it seep into his system.

The drug did it's job and soon the world came into even sharper focus and Thryyn's thought-processes were able to comprehend.

"Kevak," he said hoarsely Why was his throat so dry? "sorry about that, sir!"

He looked over at the smoke, following Kevak's line of sight, the only thing he could see through it was a claw.

"Is it dead?" He asked, keeping his voice purposefully light.

((I honestly have no preference either way... matters if you want to get involved in the 'Rancor Death Match' or not. On a different note, you know how you know you're spending far too much time on this? When you type your character's name instead of you user-name!))

((I say we keep it alive... but barely. A small rancor death match will just add to the RP and make it longer. =3))

"Thryyn! Stay awake Thryyn! come on soldier stay with me!"

Shara bit her lip, the members of the party were starting to grow on her, she admired Thryyn... it would be terrible if he didn't make it.

She was about to bend down and slap him, but he gasped and choked- breathing air. Shara breathed a sigh of relief, and resisted the urge to throw her arms around him when he stood up. It would have looked rather unprofessional.

She gave a smile to Thryyn then to Kevak. "Did we kill it?" She asked, "I'm game to check it out if you are sir." She said to Kevak.

Aeran fired straight at the rancor, ignoring the explosives that the others were going for, he hit it in the leg, and the explosian then covered it all up.

He simply stared at the explosian unflinced for a moment, and then looked at Thyrrn.

"You better not die on me you Republic scum, Im starting to get used to you." He barked, noticing Thyrrn starting to awake a bit, then injecting something into his neck.

"Stimulators eh?"

Aeran felt tempted to make fun of the Republic Marines who needed Stims to get by, but voted against it.

'.... Ill check it out if you do Sir' Shara said to Kevak.

"I thought he didnt like being called Sir, anyway lets have a look-sey" He slowly got up and began to walk to the thick cloud of smoke, still wearing a full suit of Sith Armour that he had never taken off in front of the group the smoke didnt bother him whatsoever, although it did obscure his vision.

He walked deeper into the smoke, rifle at the ready.

"Oi suzy, you awake?" He called to the dead rancor... or so he hoped.

He intends to fight a Rancor single-handed? His arrogance knows no bounds. Zarena knew there was no time for grumbling. She added her thermal detonators to the pile and dashed along after the rest of the group.

"Aeran get out of there now, once he's back here with us I want anyone with a sniper to shoot those explosives"

Zarena folded her arms. Though she felt like looking away, she knew she couldn't. I guess it's exciting, in a shuttle crash sorta way. Nonetheless she reached for her blaster. Just in case. And she waited.

"Stimulators eh?"

Thryyn suppressed an eye-roll at the Sith's comment. "No, Aeran," he said, "something that helps re-inflate my lungs."

He waited for the inevitable comment from the Sith about how piss-poor the Republic Marines were, but he was surprised when the Sith didn't take the chance.

"I thought he didnt like being called Sir, anyway lets have a look-sey"

"A look-sey, Aeran? Revisiting your Pre-school days are you?" He then watched in shock as the fool-hardy man walked up to the Rancor, and yelled something at it!

"Aeran, you damn fool." Thryyn muttered under his breath, bringing his sniper rifle back up and turning on the Thermal Imaging, hoping that the Rancor's corpse -if it was dead- would have cooled down enough to show.

"Anybody remember what the normal body temperature of a Rancor is?" He called out to the group, hoping that somebody in the group remembered random trivia as much as some of the Marines he'd served with in the past had.

Not the most common use of defense but very effective. The rancor moved out of the base and up the path following the sith who had it bound by chains. The sith left the rancor when they heard about the group coming this way from Jojo. The rancor watched as the sith were killed and the group left. The rancor broke free of its chains and began to follow them but not before having a sith snack. It looked into the distance and saw a pile of something, more food perhaps and in front of it was another soldier. The beast walked up and reached its left hand out to the soldier.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I thought he didnt like being called Sir

"Right you are Aeran, you don't need to call me sir, none of you do."

Kevak walked up to the cloud of smoke to go investigate what happened to the rancor.

---------------------------------------------------------------

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" roared the Rancor

----------------------------------------------------------------

Kevak looked up at the beast which was missing a hand

"Everyone fall back now!"

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA" roared the Ranco

"Oh, ****!" Thryyn whispered as he heard the ear shattering roar come from the dust cloud. "Forget what I asked about Rancors." He said if anybody had even known the random fact.

He used the thermal scope and aimed at the large rancor-sized blob and depressed the trigger.

He felt the recoil of the rifle like a particularly angry krath-hound hitting him in the shoulder.

He watched the projectile explode from the barrel and follow the laser-beam that had landed on the Rancor's hide.

Fly true Thryyn thought.

"Aeran, get your ass out of there! You too, Shara and Kevak!"

Shara stood watching the rancor, the hot breeze from the explosion tossed her hair to the side.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAA AAAAAAAA"

Shara stared in amazement at the source of the noise, the thing was still alive! "Uh, I think he's angry now." She called out backing up, she felt her adrenaline rush. She thought the rancor must have been able to hear her heart pounding.

"Everyone fall back now!" The order came from Kevak, who had walked up to investigate. Shara couldn't see him through the smoke and dust, but she heard the urgency in his voice. "I'm sticking with you. I'm not outta here until you are!" She called to him.

Then, out of the corner of her eye she saw Thryyn launching his missile. "Aeran, get your ass out of there! You too, Shara and Kevak!" Shara knew there was no time to wait around, the exposion, and any heat, or a particularlly almost dead- yet very mad, rancor was probably ready to come out. She started running backwards then turned and sprinted. "Kevak! Aeran! Thyyn!" She stopped short and called to the group, "Hurry up! Try to keep up!" She stopped, waiting for her party members. She would not be the coward here, she would not run until they were safely with her.

If any of them were going down, she would go down with them.

"Aeran, get your ass out of there! You too, Shara and Kevak!"

something hit the Rancor right in the chest.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" It screamed shaking the trees this time.

It looked down and spoted a a human running out of the smoke. The giant creature gave chase and stopped right in front of her. It looked down at the human and then roared once more. Kevak jumped on the creatures back and stabbed it with his saber. The rancor began struggling trying to throw being off of it. Kevak took his vibrossword and stuck it into the Rancor's back as well. the Rancor shook harder and swung its fist down at the armored soldier.

The Rancor roared, and though it was missing a hand it was still alive. Dammit. I should have saved a few grenades.

Though Aeran had skulked forward and Kevak had gone to inspect the smoke, Zarena hung back.

"Aeran, get your ass out of there! You too, Shara and Kevak!"

She glanced in Thryyn's direction. He seemed to be trying to shoot it. She thought back to Nar Shaddaa, trying to find a fight that might help now, and she remembered one - a big Gammorrean that had come at her while she was collecting spice debt.

"Thryyn, cripple it. If it's legs don't work it can't chase us." She watched as the creature leaped from the smoke and went for Shara. "Or jump," she added.

Though she already had her pistol in one hand, she gripped her vibrosword in the other. If it came at her, she'd have a much better chance if she at least had a melee weapon out.

Zarena moved away from Thryyn, away from the others, and launched a few pistol shots in the Rancor's direction. If it turns, you run. Duck behind the trees. You're not like all these stupid would-be heroes, you're not gonna die if you can help it...

((So the rancor went for me- er Shara...? I'll roll with that. =3))

Shara froze and looked up at the beast in front of her, it roared an ear splitting roar. She felt her heart stop, she couldn't breathe. She was dead now... Well, it had been a good life... mostly. Too bad she couldn't see Ardana and Erik again.

Just as Shara began to believe she was dead- Kevak jumped up onto the rancor and started stabbing it. Regaining her senses she pulled out her sniper rifle and shot it right in the eye. While, it probably only would have made the thing angrier, at least now it couldn't see. But if Shara recalled correctly rancor's had an innate sense of smell.

"Thryyn, cripple it. If it's legs don't work it can't chase us."

"What a good idea." Shara grinned, she pulled out her last explosive- a destructive frag mine. This would either get her killed or perhaps help save them all. Shara took a deep breath, and while the beast was busy with Kevak she sprinted up to it, placed the mine on its leg and set it for fifteen seconds. She screamed, "Kevak get the frak out of there!" She turned and sprinted, "Thryyn aim for the knees!" She dove behind a bush, do or die.

((Is that okay with you guys? Mine... yes? No?))

Thryyn had already started shifting his aim before he saw Shara set the mine and call out: "Thryyn aim for the knees!"

Moving his aim up a little bit, he depressed his trigger on his sniper rifle, emptying his clip. Looking up from his scope, Thryyn missed the flight of the bullet, but saw the effects, the Rancor's left knee was blown out, and it had fallen right on top of Shara's mine.

"Wow." Thryyn commented. "It never works out this way in real life, are you sure we aren't in some cheap holodrama?"

The rancor felt more pain in its chest, it then felt a much sharper pain as its right eye was shot clean off.

"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

It swung its right leg to try to kick the girl but got another blow to the left knee. The rancor took a step backwards but only felt more pain as it did so.

"Kevak get the frak out of there!"

Kevak jumped off the rancor taking his weapons with him and looked down at the mine. He sliced the creatures foot off and pushed it hard as it topploed over forcing it to roll away from them. The rancor let off one more roar before the mine exploded.

"That was one hell of a move Shara and good job all of you. We've still got to get to that base and when we do, Shara you'll be coming with me."

(Lol, nice touch at the end ForeverNight))
