May '08 topic: What would you be willing to sacrifice, and why?

Con-bloody-grats Bee Hoon for the victory!

We steal your base!

*Ahem* Anyway, I will actually make an effort and go to post an entry this month! Hopefully it can be better than the last attempt xP

Usually it's two weeks from the new topic being posted right? That would be fine with me:)

^^ Odd, I actually used to be more long-winded than I am now :xp: I believe that it was not the length but rather the entire nature of the fic which didn't sit well. While it was very funny, I guess it's kinda 'ouch' for those who do actually put in effort and try to write good pieces.

Nice to see you again Bee Hoon and congratulations on your winning entry. You've made a good choice of choosing this month's theme and I'm looking forward to taking part in this.

Ztalker--all threads posted for stories in TJC automatically go to the moderation queue, and they don't appear in the forum until I validate them on the release date. That way, early birds don't get an unfair advantage.

igyman, I appreciated the humor at Hall's 'attempt' and how it made others laugh, but the controversy I had to deal with offline was not fun at all, and it's just not worth the hurt feelings. It wasn't that people were upset that he got so many votes, it was that they felt he was making fun of TJC and their attempts to contribute meaningfully to the contest with that 'entry'.

The length of the entry is irrelevant as long as it meets the spirit of the topic and looks like you're trying to make a reasonable effort. You don't have to be a professional or even amateur hobbyist writer, or even think you're good, for that matter. You just have to be willing to give it a good honest try. :)

I'll set the due date as 2 weeks from today, so the 18th will be the last day you have to get your stories in.

I definitely was making fun of TJC, not the contest itself (I've voted every month and written serious entries before, I just haven't submitted them) but the lack of rules. It was just a matter of time before someone tested the waters, I decided I might as well do it to find out sooner rather than later. I expected it to get a few laughs (which it did, thanks to members who don't think of me as a total jerk-off <3), but didn't know people would get offended over it.

My personal favourite thing about this kerfuffle was the fact that I didn't get so much as a strongly worded letter about it. I didn't even know there was a controversy until True_Avery congratulated me on causing one. It disappoints me that people decided to get offended and go straight to the mods rather than sending me a PM saying 'Seriously man, what the hell?'

Well, I certainly didn't think it was bad enough to need a warning, Hall. There's a difference between a joke and a flagrant rules violation. If you're planning on 'social experiments' in the future, however, it would be wise to discuss it with the staff prior to the plan rather than after. If you have some kind of issues with the rules or lack thereof, why didn't you PM me then? --Jae

Enough about Hall's story or lack thereof. It's time to move back to the topic of Bee's story theme for this month. If anyone has other issues about this or the rules, PM me or one of the other staff.

Hmm....

when social experiments go wrong...

(still can't get those url tags to work!! :( ) fixed! --Jae :)

Anyways, thanks for the info, Jae. I have read the rules, but must have missed that part. :)

Thanks Mr_BFA and Diego Varen (welcome back, both of you:) You were the first people *ever* to post on my fics, hehe). Haven't seen either of you for quite a while!

Don't worry bout it, Hall:p *shushes up before the Momerator kicks into gear*

Ztalker, I'm looking forward to reading your entry:)

It's the 19th now, by the way.

I'm just joking, but I'm wondering where the stories are?

Diego, you're 7 or 8 hours ahead of my time zone. I was still in bed when you posted. We moderators are not awake 24/7. The fics will be released tonight when I get home from work and possibly tomorrow (my time zone). I can't do it from work because I have very limited internet access.

I do apologise. I forget that we're all from different places and as such, the time zones are very different indeed.

It has been a while. I'm glad I posted cause you're a great writer. As proof shown here :)

Well, my entry is in. I think it has reached the deadline, yes? Good luck to all! and me of course xP (I wouldn't seem like my usual egotistical self if I didn't add that! :p)
