Thinking of trying Linux... Live CD or Virtual Box?

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests, i'm thinking of giving Linux a try.

I don't wanna have partition my hard drive, or screw my Vista up however.

As I understand, the two options I have are making a Live CD or using Virtual PC/Virtual Box.

Which method would you techies recommend?

Right, i've just had a go, and it was really good!

Not too different from Windows, and generally fun to use.

Too bad it can't run exe files though.

I think I may still get VirtualBox though. (To install WinXP :D)

I'll definitely use Ubuntu in the future. :)

I thought of that, but would things like Photoshop and 3DSMax work?
I'd use GIMP and GIMP Animation Package instead of Photoshop as a native replacement. :)

However, while most Photoshop versions should work in WINE (Versions 6 to 9 are listed as "Platinum Application", which means they run flawlessly ootb), I think there are still some issues with newer 3DSMax versions. Most 3DSMax tests are older than 1-2 months though, so using a recent WINE version could change that.

@Negsun

Ok, i'll have a go at VB. I've finally decided to actually switch my OS back to XP aswell... :D

@Ray

Yeah, I need Max because it's needed for NWMax to run. (I model for KotOR)

I'll switch back to XP anyway, then run Ubuntu through VB if I ever fancy a change. :)
