jdaw2552
Hey, this is my first post on this thread. I picked up KOTOR from Direct2Drive for my new computer. I have fully updated drivers and a gaming pc that can max this game easy. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. I was having a few weird errors during my first few plays, but then it stopped working after the lucasarts screen. I uninstalled and reinstalled (which with downloading takes forever) and it worked again. Then today it dind't work at all, which makes me very mad cuz I loved this game on Xbox and idk if I can go back to xbox after seeing how much better it is on PC. Anyway, I have been running it in Windows service pack 2 XP all day and it wasn't working at all. I gets placed in the background after freezing and I have to log off to remove it. I tried running through the steps and deleted mss32.dll, but I can't find a legit copy of mss32.dll anywhere (my games are too new to have them on this, I searched), I downloaded a copy of mss32 from some website and put it in, but it didn't work at all. I need a legit copy of mss32 from somewhere I think. Now when I start it with this janky mss32, the game runs fine.... except I have no sound. All help is truly appreciated

Sarsoman
Hello, I've been trying to figure this problem out for a good while now.. I downloaded this off of a torrent a month or two back and couldn't get it to work, so I decided to just buy the game at Target last night and see what happened (KOTOR 2). I followed the installation guide and it didn't work, so I've been fidgeting around with the specs and I've finally had enough. Evil Q, If you can help me solve this problem I would appreciate it more than you know. Here are my specs: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=10/5/2010 10:13:54 PM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.00.424 GameInstallLocation=C:\KOTOR 2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass [swapFiles] ?:\pagefile.sys=0 [CPU] CPUCount=4 CPUSpeed=2128 CPUFamily=6 CPUModel=5 CPUStepping=2 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName=Intel® Core i3 CPU M 330 @ 2.13GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=3896 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=12.54GB D: (NTFS), UNICODE=22.78GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=E:\,F:\,G:\ Drives=HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GT30N ATA Device [Video] Video Card Name=RDPDD Chained DD Video Memory=2048 Desktop Resolution=1366x768x32 @ 60Hz DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=2.1.0 - Build 8.15.10.2202 OpenGL Vendor=Intel OpenGL Renderer=Intel® HD Graphics Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Pass GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=0 Disable Movies=1 Disable Intro Movies=1 Sort Modules=0 Width=1024 Height=768 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Music Volume=85 Voiceover Volume=85 Sound Effects Volume=85 Movie Volume=85 Number 3D Voices=16 Number 2D Voices=24 2D3D Bias=0.50 Force Software=1 EAX=0 Sound Init=0 Disable Sound=0 [Graphics Options] V-Sync=0 Anisotropy=1 Frame Buffer=0 Anti Aliasing=0 Texture Quality=0 Grass=0 Soft Shadows=0 Shadows=0 Brightness=0 EnableHardwareMouse=0 FullScreen=0 RefreshRate=60 Width=1024 Height=768 [Game Options] UnlockedPlanetSongs=1 Enable Tooltips=0 Keyboard Camera Deceleration=2000.000000 Keyboard Camera Acceleration=500.000000 Keyboard Camera DPS=200.000000 TextureVariation=0 BodyVariation=0 AppearanceType=0 PCGender=0 GameCompleted=0 CurSithLord=0 Hide InGame GUI=0 Use Small Fonts=0 Hide Unequippable=0 Tutorial Popups=0 Subtitles=1 Mini Map=1 Floating Numbers=1 Status Summary=1 Enable Mouse Teleporting To Buttons=1 Mouse Sensitivity=44 Difficulty Level=1 Auto Level Up NPCs=0 Mouse Look=0 AutoSave=1 EnableScreenShot=0 Reverse Mouse Buttons=0 Reverse Ingame YAxis=0 Reverse Minigame YAxis=0 Combat Movement=1 TooltipDelay Sec=1 Disable Movies=1 [config] firstrun=0 [Keymapping] Action286B=8 Action286A=7 Action285B=10 Action285A=9 Action284B=54 Action284A=51 Action283B=54 Action283A=51 Action282B=69 Action282A=73 Action281B=53 Action281A=76 Action280B=69 Action280A=73 Action268=52 Action265=58 Action264=57 Action263=43 Action262=85 Action261=84 Action260=83 Action259=82 Action258=81 Action257=80 Action256=79 Action255=78 Action254=77 Action253=31 Action245=75 Action244=55 Action243=67 Action242=74 Action241=87 Action240=56 Action239=68 Action238=82 Action236=83 Action234=81 Action232=80 Action230=79 Action228=78 Action226=77 Action225=70 Action224=90 Action223=31 Action222=25 Action221=24 Action220=29 Action219=28 Action218=42 Action217=87 Action216=65 Action215=63 Action214=60 Action213=62 Action212=61 Action211=66 Action210=59 Action209=71 Action208=89 Action207=72 Action206=30 Action205=55 Action204=67 [Autopause Options] End Of Combat Round=0 Mine Sighted=0 Enemy Sighted=1 Party Killed=1 Action Menu=0 New Target Selected=1 [Movies Shown] Movie10=0 Movie 9=0 Movie 8=0 Movie 7=0 Movie 6=0 Movie 5=0 Movie 4=0 Movie 3=0 Movie 2=0 Movie 1=0 Movie 0=4 I've got an Intel HD Graphics video card, I think this has something to do with my "Flipping Policy to Blip" issue that some have. Q
The newer Intel graphics drivers don't have that option. You need to go into swkotor2.ini and set Fullscreen=1 under both [Display Options] and [Graphics Options]. You also need to put the Dantooine lag fix (Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1) under [Graphics Options].

Q
^I would contact D2D. They've made changes to some of the game files that I can't account for (Steam did the same thing), all in the name of getting the game to run on Vista/7, and it's their responsibility to get the game to run on a modern OS. Back again.. Nothing seems to work. I just don't know what is going on.. KOTOR worked fine on my computer yet KOTOR 2 is just having all sorts of problems. Anymore input you have would be extremely appreciated although I'm close to just giving up. KotOR2's a real bitch sometimes. Try going back into that .ini file and changing the Width and Height values to 1280 and 768 respectively under both [Display Options] and [Graphics Options]. Also try running the game with V-sync on. jdaw2552
D2D has AWFUL customer service and won't respond to any of my open tickets. I just bought it on Steam as well. Sad part is, I have an Xbox version and a PC version back at my parents house. I now own 4 different copies of this game... These are the fixes from the official Steam forums. I have a feeling they work. Originally Posted by robinabo View Post I have found an alternative if you still wish to play in full screen. Wait for the videos to finish then when you get to the loading screen, simply press ALT + ENTER again to see the game in full screen. AND From Jacknifebastard I found another solution. I simply rename the three startup movies (they are not necessary, aren't they ?) biologo.bik, leclogo.bik and legal.bik into biologo.bik.old, etc... No special manip, no windowed mode, and all my cinematics work perfectly : no more crash ! Try this. You guys are welcome. Q
OK, I need to get a hold of one of cheap, up to date Intel laptop and see if I can get these games to run on it. Revan1882
I was wondering if i could get some help with my knights of the old republic game. I used to be able to play this game quite well on windows vista, but was forced to reformat my laptop to windows 7 and now neither kotor or kotor2 will play. The game installs perfectly fine, but when i get to the main screen the screen flashes like a strobe light and the character models are completely messed up, the eyes will be on one side of the screen while other parts of the body will be flipped inside out and spread around the rest of the screen. During an actual game these same problems persist. These are the specs for my system: Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA System Model: Satellite A215 BIOS: Ver 1.00PARTTBL Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Available OS Memory: 1918MB RAM Page File: 1548MB used, 2287MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Card name: ATI Radeon X1200 Series Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Chip type: ATI Radeon X1200 Series (0x791F) I have tried to update my video card drivers by using the automatic installer and even downloaded the catalyst manager for ati radeon x1200 and it didn't fix it. Q
Did you install the game according to the large-print instructions at the top of the second post in this thread? That said, ATI's newer drivers will not work properly, and since the only drivers available for Windows 7 are only a year old, you're going to have to hold off on playing a game until you can find a fix. Try googling it every once in a while. You'll be likely to find it on an ATI-themed forum.

bladecatcher
Here is my setup I have a toshiba satellite L355-S7915 Processor: 2.2GHz Intel Celeron 900 Memory: 3GB DDR2 Storage: 250GB hard drive Optical Drive: DVD±RW Screen: 17 inches (1,440x900 native resolution) Graphics: Integrated Intel GMA 4500M Weight: 6.9 pounds Dimensions (HWD): 1.7x15.7x11.5 inches Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit and whenever I install kotor 2 just after the beginning credits it crashes on me. I Installed the fix and its set right and everything but it wont work. And Kotor 1 works fine on my laptop w/o a fix the only problems i've had are. The grass script issue(just turned off grass) and it wont go completely full screen. Its not windowed but its not full screen either. But thats a minor inconvenience really. Locutus1546
Hey guys, I've recently dusted Kotor2 Off from it's hiding place, and I've attempted to install it on my new machine, a windows 7 64-bit platform. Well When I first tried it I had no dice. I then googled it and stumbled onto this. I tried the fix in bold on the second post of this thread, but the result is much the same. I'm not sure it's the same as all of you, as you all seem to have been able to at least partially play it. When I try to launch it, I get the standard "I'm thinking" icon on my pc, and then after a few moments it stops and nothing happens. Trying to relaunch it doesn't even do that because when you go into task manager you can see that the process is running, but you can't actually do anything with it in my experience. Now this thread was 12 pages and I skimmed most of it but did not see anything similar to it. I hope I'm not missing something like a noob >.< but any help on this would be most appreciated D: I want to play my game again.

Locutus, would you please post your config stats, or your swkotor2.ini, or both, so we can be more helpful. Post your system specs Sometimes we're just not going to be able to help you if we don't know what kind of hardware you have on your machine. If you don't know what you have on your machine, then follow these steps below: * Bring up the launcher menu for Kotor 1 or 2. * Click on "Configure". * Click the "Scan Hardware" button on the lower center of the window. * Click "Yes" to continue. * Click "Details" to view your system specs. * Click "Save Report" and save the file to your desktop. * Whenever you post your problem, open the file you just saved and copy and paste the contents to your post. buck08
I'm running Vista 32 and tried to apply the fix in the second post here twice. Essentially, the game starts after a very long delay where I am looking at a black screen. I generally take this opportunity to set the affinity. After this the opening credits display, there is another decent delay, and then I can start a new game. After I create a character, the screen goes black, then displays my desktop. That's it. It never actually crashes or displays a (not responding) in the task manager as if it froze. It just never does anything else. I'm at a loss and ready to give up, which means it's either something easy that I'll feel stupid when it's fixed or I won't be playing this old game any time soon. Have you run the DirectX Runtime Installer to fill in your missing pieces of DX9.dlls? 2- Your driver for your Video Card is a fail... and has funny things in it... have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from nVidia? 3- I see no Dantooine Lag Fix, so I wonder if you did all of the instructions for proper installation. There are a lot of them.
Locutus1546
Mhm. I uninstalled and went through the list meticulously. as for the information: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=10/24/2010 9:48:38 PM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.00.424 GameInstallLocation=D:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\SWKotOR2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=None Status=Pass [swapFiles] ?:\pagefile.sys=0 [CPU] CPUCount=1 CPUSpeed=2666 CPUFamily=6 CPUModel=7 CPUStepping=10 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName=Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=4096 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=82.28GB D: (NTFS), UNICODE=154.89GB E: (NTFS), UNICODE=132.37GB F: (NTFS), UNICODE=108.51GB I: (NTFS), UNICODE=430.14GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=G:\ Drives=ASUS DRW-24B1ST ATA Device,SONY CD-RW CRX230EE ATA Device,TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S162L ATA Device [Video] Video Card Name=RDPDD Chained DD Video Memory=4096 Desktop Resolution=0x0x0 DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=3.3.0 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer=GeForce GTS 250/PCI/SSE2 NVidia Driver=(null) Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Fail GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=@oem2.inf,%audigy.devicedesc%;Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM) Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=1 Disable Movies=0 Disable Intro Movies=0 Sort Modules=1 Width=1280 Height=1024 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Sound Init=1 Disable Sound=0 Force Software=0 [Graphics Options] EnableHardwareMouse=1 FullScreen=1 RefreshRate=60 Width=1280 Height=1024 V-Sync=0 Texture Quality=2 Anti Aliasing=0 Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1 [Game Options] Disable Movies=0 [config] firstrun=0 I find it odd it says win xp... but that might because I hit it up in compatibility mode. I am currently running a win 7 machine. And as for the video drivers. I've no clue how they could be out of date considering I just updated them last week. jlew
I've updated DirectX as in EDIT #2, then followed Astro's instructions through running setup.exe. The game is installed and I was about to move on, but the install is asking "You appear to have DirectX 9.0b or newer installed." Do I continue installing 9.0b or ignore it like the recommendation?
