Yar-El
X-Files II - I Want to Believe Last night I had a chance to see this film, and I walked away with a weird impression. I can't place this film as an X-Files movie; however, it was a pretty good movie all and all. Chris Carter does know how to write a good story. I did enjoy this film from start to finish; nevertheless, I still walked away with the impression of was that an X-Files movie?. Seeing the name X-Files on a movie brings some expectations. (1) Mulder and Skully belong working for the FBI. (2) We will get our first X-Files movie case. (3) Effective story about a conspiracy or science-fiction mystery. We have never seen a movie where an agent Skully and agent Mulder were working on an X-Files case. I want to see this so badly. I walked away feeling very disappointed by the lacking X-Fileness of this movie. Where is my agent Skully and Mulder moment? Stepping to the outside for a moment. Carter could have called this by any other title, and the movie can still be just as affective. It was a story written for two other non-X-Files chracters. Did anyone else get this impression? jrrtoken
I agree; it was a great movie, but it didn't exactly feel like an X-Files episode. The "sci-fi" part of "sci-fi/mystery" was a bit lacking, and the antagonist as a modern day Dr. Frankenstein isn't the best example of the usual X-Files plot. I wish they would continue the series alien mythology, but hey, that's just me. You're also correct that Scully and Mulder didn't feel like Suclly and Mulder. They seemed almost distant from themselves; I don't know if that it what chris Carter intended, but it was very, very odd. I've always been a die hard "Xphile", so I guess it was a bit disappointing from a fan-base perspective, but then again, I also have the entire series on DVD if I need my X-Files fix. Chevron 7 locke
I thought the move had the characters not acting like they did on the show. it just didn't feel the X-files, it felt more like an echo of what the X-files once was
Pho3nix
The reason for it not feeling like an X-files movie is because they decided to make a "monster of the week" themed movie, not alien mythology. Personally, I did enjoy it but it could have been so much better with a mythology theme rather than some Russian Frankenstein >_> it was such an anti-climax for me. Jason Skywalker
I thought it was pretty average, felt nothing like X-Files at all like some have said.
jonathan7
I thought it was alright, not as bad as critics had made out, maybe a 6 out of 10. My issue was it would of been far better as an episode than a film. And it didn't carry on the Alien side of the series, nor did it seem massively paranormal. It was just average really. I think the X-Files will never hit the heights of series 1 and 2 though to be honest, I thought it got a little silly towards the end
Yar-El
Jonathan7, You summed up what I felt about this movie. It did have tones from the series; however, Carter should have pushed the paranormal side. X-FIles 2 wasn't a overall waste of a movie. I did enjoy a good amount of it. I would also give it a 6 out of 10.
