Jae Onasi
Nursing homes/long-term care facilities are just like anything else--there are great ones, there are average ones, there are truly awful ones. Most of the ones I've been in have been adequate at best.
Web Rider
I've been to a few nursing homes to visit relatives and the caregivers are generally very good, they're only human and it's understandable that they can only be so caring sometimes. And yeah, there are good places and bad places, but there will always be those things, I don't really think it's possible to make every single one perfect without putting them under a constant microscope, and that's not going to be a healthy work environment. mur'phon
Well, they practically don't exist around here, asuming they survive on their pensions (which is never a sure bet as you have to work ilegally to manage on them), they either die home or, if they become mortally ill, die with their families. Darth Avlectus
I've seen a few. They were okay. They were nice about visitation and celebrated quite often. Their care was adequate to good. Web rider pretty much said it. The environment is usually quite a caring one wherever and whenever I have visited one. Still there is the undeniable air about the elderly of regret for their age. Other than consolation we can try to offer--I really don't know any way to soothe that. Visting, pets, gifts. Those help. Some are happy and un-regretful. Those ones are the real inspiration I think.
