JediAthos
I had my own objections to John McCain, but as far as the former Gov. Palin goes I just looked at her and went..."okay..so if the old guy croaks..that crazy chick gets to run the country?" Personally, if for nothing else than for their own benefit, I'd like to see the GOP find a hole and toss her into it. There is no way she'd win enough primaries to win the Republican nomination, and I can't envision a scenario where the majority of the Republican party would back her against an incumbent president especially if President Obama does a "good job" in the opinion of the public over the next four years. Q
Just as an FYI, I like John McCain. I respect someone who challenges their own party, and he (before he sold his soul for the presidency) was one of my favorite politicians. I was most likely going to vote for him over Obama originally but Palin cut that option off to me seeing as I wasn't part of "real America" and apparently wasn't worth her time. Trying to appeal to rural and middle America was her biggest mistake, and her opinion that they are superior to everyone else is her greatest character flaw. This sums up my thoughts on Election '08 beautifully, though I still voted for McCain because I saw him as the lesser of two evils. As for Palin: she needs to get out of politics and stay out. Totenkopf
WAAAAAA!!! YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO CRITICIZE PUBLIC OFFICIALS!! WAAAAAAAAA! I'M GOING TO SUE ALL OF YOU WAAAAAA!! If only that were all it was. Still, if she does have presidential aspirations, the scrutiny and nastiness would only be that much more acute and ugly. If she is really serious about having a future in national politics, she ought to take the next 10 or so years and bone up on the issues and be really cagey with the press, b/c they'll mostly be hostile to her no matter what. At least she'll still be younger than HRC (and probably still better looking too) when she ran vs BO in the primaries.
Q
I don't think that she has any realistic future in politics, national or otherwise. Like her or not, the woman's a poison pill.
Allronix
Resigning in her first term with only a year and a half to go? It makes me wonder. If she has national political ambitions, it doesn't look good to quit so abruptly. The cynic in me wonders if there's another ethics violation or disastrous personal affair about to surface, and she is bailing out before it ruins her, hoping it'll just go away or just stay quiet. Bad news about a current governor is on page one of the paper. bad news about former governors tends to be limited to the "local news" section. Q
Yup. As I said in the Senate, the scandalmeter is pegged. Something is very wrong, because resigning so abruptly does not bode well for any lofty political aspirations she may have. None of it really matters, though. Her political future was in the toilet, anyway.

I'll reiterate that 15 federal investigations probably had something to do with it. I wonder if most of which were probably Rahm Emanuel's handy work.
