The most heartbreaking story...

A lot of amazing people died in that crash; My thoughts go out to their families. Every time I hear about another helicopter crash, I think of the 8 men who died in the '07 crash I was in, and how easily I could've been one of these news articles.

I can only hope that my dog would do the same at my funeral. I care more about her than I do all but around 5-30 human beings. It's a huge comfort to me to know that my wife will take good care of her should anything ever happen to me.

Wow. He can tell he's in the coffin, because even the embalming process (human taxidermy) cannot remove a human's personal scent. Hawkeye appears to be a chocolate; my preferred color. I'm on my second chocolate Lab; I grew up with my first. She was SuperDog.

Yes, a lot of unscrupulous breeders are ruining the breed; but, if you know what you're looking for, the Labrador Retriever is quite possibly the finest dog on the planet.

If it weren't for dogs, I would think that love was complete BS. They are higher beings than humanity in that regard.

Wow. A pet's lasting loyalty.

I had a lab-chow mix as a little kid. She lived 12 years and died when I was a teen. We had to have her put down. It drained the life out of me for a week. The way she would try to steal my shoe as a puppy, to how she got too big to wrestle, to the years she'd run amok in the neighborhood disappearing for days at a time. She'd barrel through snow to chase coyotes, cats (she would protect our cats, though if only because they'd run when she'd chase them), wild critters, and bears. The neighborhood knew and loved her. Or how she'd protect her humans from other dogs that would snap at us. She slowed down in her old age and bathed in the river on hot days. Sticking around more often at that point, many of her traits were learned by her successor, a ~69-75% wolf husky who took her place and filled the role quite well. Since then my family has had a few dogs but I'll never forget the old black dog I grew up with nor the wolf.
