Flattering yet disgusting.  Originally posted by NiKo best novel i've read (pretty much only novel i've read) Could've guessed that.  Seriously, if you liked it there are some real novels you might like. I tried to write the novelization in the style of hardboiled detective novels, so maybe you should try some of those like Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep or Dashiell Hammett's The Thin Man.  (I was smart enough not to try to imitate anyone, but I had The Thin Man in mind the whole time because it mixed humor into the hardboiled. And Nick Charles in his movie incarnation shows up in Café Calavera on opening night; he's the guy telling the bartender that mixing drinks needs the right rhythm.) Jake
I have only read the first 10 or so pages of the Grim novel and the first 3 or so of the Sprouting of Don Copal and I need to finish them both now  It's really great stuff! However, you need an editor The first sentence of the GF novel irked me a little, how it immediately substituted "Department of Death" with "DOD." ... but yeah that's awesome.  I think if it were ever published as a book, opening with the sprouting of don copal would be a great way to go, as a sort of preface, then dump you into the story of Manny. MeddlingMonk
Originally posted by Jake It's really great stuff! However, you need an editor In Ned Sparks mode: 'You're telling me? I'm telling you!' Â I'm not sure I get the problem with going with the acronym after spelling it out once. Seems like SOP to me. But, yeah, it could've used an independent editor, but *shrug*. Â I revised the opening at least four times. I'm still not happy with it. The tone doesn't seem right. I'm not sure what would be right, so that's the heart of the problem right there. Â If you downloaded the PDF version of the Domino story, you'll find at the end of it a couple of pages of what I think are the biggest problems in the novel...but that probably won't make much sense until you've read the whole thing. The Dogfuchow
ahhh, I never even beat the damn game and now there's a fan novelization. Â well, hope it's good, I just may read it.
