I never understood the surplus value part of communism. I don't see how a laborer can be paid for the full value of his product when there are many other people involved in the production as well, all of witch get their money from the selling of the product. Or something.

You're an ass. Perhaps after you turn into an intelligent person (I assume that might happen), you'll notice that politics are very important. Although, I can't see how that would ever come in handy working at Taco Bell for the rest of your life.

Me especially,.. since I work with many of the greatest musicians in the world on an almost daily basis, and most of them (or at least the BEST ones) don't walk around with that that type of "gunslinger" attitude.

Those few that do, I try very hard to avoid.

If you're really that good you don't need to shove it in peoples faces. People will recognize real talent.

Also,.. I love it when a noobie appears and starts questioning what we talk about here. If you don't have anything to contribute to a thread that's halfway insightful, witty, or intellegent, then at least have the good manners to stay the hell out of it. There are plenty of other threads to post to,.. or if that's not good enough, start a new one. We like to talk about this stuff here, and always have. XWAers talk about politics and world affairs from time to time. Get used to it.

yeah well, no one wants to discuss the beneits of a cornet over an oboe so I think he's **** out of luck

You obviosuly must get out ALOT if you managed to find this hell hole of bandwith that is YEARS out fo date, atleast most of us got here when XWA wasnt outdated as hell. Mind you politics is what drives our society and keeps it moving, that and war, so its obviously not important at all, lil pissant.

Your talent clearly isn't spelling. If it's talent in pissing me off, then you're good. If it's musical talent, then no. I played the cello for eight years and was apparently pretty good. I thought I sucked, but people that knew what they were talking about said I was so I assume I was. One of them was one of the best cellists east of the Mississippi River and she tried to explain WHY I was good. I was too busy obviously staring at her female attributes to care what she was saying though. Now she makes cellos or something professionally.

I'm a stage manager for all the concert halls at a large contemporary music college in Boston. I also freelance at many of the clubs, concert halls, and studios locally in audio-engineering and lighting design.

I'm also a semi-pro guitarist, although I don't do as much of that anymore since I'm so busy with the other stuff.

It's all there under my profile...

Names, eh? OK, here goes. Some of the folks I've worked with, in no particular order:

Eric Johnson

Bruce Hornsby

Steve Morse

Dave Brubeck

Toots Theilmans

Jim Hall

Joe Lovano

Carlos Santana

Dave Holland

The Bare Naked Ladies

John Scofield

Greg Allman

Chick Corea

Jethro Tull

Bonnie Raitt

Ahmad Jamal

Henry Rollins

Gary Burton

Ornette Coleman

Jimmy Buffett

Lilith Fair

Brian Wilson

The Boston Pops and Symphony Orchestras

(Jazz fans will recognize more of these names than non-jazz fans.)

There are others, but it's late, and I have work tomorrow.

*Shrugs*

Trust me, they're all very talented. Like I said, some of the greatest musicians alive in the world today, but rarely the biggest "Stars". With one or two exceptions, none of them get played on pop radio much these days.

Extreme musical talent and virtuosity very rarely equates with any kind of mass-popularity,.. in fact, it's often a detriment to it.

Yep. Nice guy though,.. for a legend. He's getting up there, but still playing great.

I wasn't bothering to check my records on any of these either. These are just the ones I could remember off the top of my head as being good shows with nice people.

These are the only three I know. I've heard of Eric Johnson because he did that G3 Tour with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, the two best guitarist in the planet ! (I prefere Vai slightly more than Satriani, I even have the same guitar he has :D...)

My other favorite guitarists are:

_Yngwie Malmsteen but he's gotten fat and ugly and havn't heard any new stuff from him for ages...

_Paul Gilbert, excellent stuff.

_Jimi Hendrix, if only he was still here...

I suppose you know all of them already, who are your favorites edlib?

All those guys you mentioned, of course. Eric Johnson is my favorite of those guys, but I really like all of them.

My ultimate favorite? My Dad! The best guitar player I've ever seen. He's been playing jazz guitar professionally since the early '40s. He was the only guitar player in town who was too young to be drafted when the war broke out, so he got all the gigs with the older guys. He's been doing it ever since. He really is a monster when it comes to that style of playing.

Others? Well, Steve Morse for one. He's my all-time favorite, short of my dad. If you haven't heard him, get hold of some of his solo records, as well as the stuff he did with the Dixie Dregs (A.K.A. the Dregs) He's playing in Deep Purple right now, but his other stuff is the best.

I also like:

Van Halen

Steve Howe (of Yes)

Frank Zappa

Ty Tabor (of King's X)

Chet Atkins

Kenny Burrel

Wes Montgomery

John McLaughlin

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton

Andy Summers

****ie Betts (OK, OK... RICHARD Betts. Thank you Mr. Smut-Filter  )

Jim Hall

Joe Pass

Steve Lukather

John Williams (the classical guitarist)

John Scofield

Pat Metheny

Tal Farlow

Robben Ford

Charlie Hunter

Django Rheinhardt

Gary Moore

Larry Carlton

Danny Gatton

Roy Buchanan

Mike Stern

The Edge

Warren Haynes

I highly recommend that as a guitarist you check out each of these guys. They are all amazing in different ways

Thanks for the list edlib, I will be sure to check 'em out.

I already know a few of them like Frank Zappa (Steve Vai's mentor), Stevie Ray Vaughn, Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and of course: Van Halen (A guitarist who doesn't know Van Halen, the creator of the art of tapping, is not a real guitarist... I'm currently thinking of that song: "Panama" but my favorite tapping song is "Midnight" by Satriani ;))

I'm now curious to how your dad's playing sounds...

Can anyone answer this? I tried asking some hardcore commies at another board but the thread died before they could answer with anything better than commie buzz words and catch phrases.
