Jedi Training

Now that the GameSpy article confirmed that we would have to go through tests to get our lightsaber back from Luke I noticed something of note. Look at this concept art picture:

Jedi Speed Room obviously is a room in which you get your Force Speed skills up to scratch. What other rooms like this will you have to go through do you think? Force speed is not the power I would have my apprentices try out on to master their skills. I would think something more like heal or mind trick. On the other side, though, I don't know how you could make a room to test heal or mind trick. There probably won't be any darkside rooms though, because Luke is the one teaching Kyle.

I think that the last thing Luke will have Kyle do might be to construct a new lightsaber. If you remember, Kyle never constructed one himself, and the construction of a lightsaber is a highly demanding and personal task according to everything I've read. After Kyle constructs this lightsaber Luke might ask him which he preferes, the one he built, or the one he's been holding. Obviously he would choose the one he built, which is why the color is different in this game. What do you think?

Edit: The picture was covered by the ad, so I made it a hyperlink

Another power that comes to mind right after speed is Jump, because another concept design already shows this room. Then there is of course Push and Pull. These might both be in same room: you push crates around room, perhaps into some particular place or maybe there is somekind of machine that throws little artifacts at you and you have to push them away(keeping in mind that you can push thermal detonator back at its thrower) and pull artifacts in your hand and droids quickly toward you. I like the idea of constructing your own saber(perhaps original one was destroyed somehow or given to another Jedi apprentice), because that is something that even movies haven't shown yet, and after that you might end up in the room where you have to duel againts Luke or droid specifically programmed to that job; it starts by simple moves and then slowly goes to more complex and demanding combos(saber throw might be part of it, because it is passive Force power). Like you said, Luke will not assist you in training Dark Side powers, so I guess you learn to Choke/Grip your enemies and hit them with Lightning bolts somewhere else during you actual mission; you might also develop Jedi Mind Tricks and Heal yourself along the way.

Though it seems unlikely even to me, maybe Kyle asked Luke to get rid of his old saber, since he had sworn to give up the Force.

Jedi regard their sabers as an extension of themself, not a tool to be discarded at will. Do you think Luke would just up and throw away Kyle's arm?

Well maybe he would go in with the intention of picking up his lightsaber from Luke. After he completed all the trials though (Which include building a new lightsaber) he might decide he likes the new one better.

Or, Kyle needs a place to train, and Kyle needs a lightsaber. Luke tells Kyle that if he will build himself a lightsaber, he will be allowed to train at Yavin.

Maybe Luke or Kyle replaced some of the parts (the crystal, obviously, and some other things.

Hmm Jedi training.. neat idea, JK never had a training mission. It will be good for new players to learn the basics and for people who have played JK to learn new features. Hopefuly there will be a saber training room (Sorta like in the 4th mission of JK) With remotes and a target to hit- only this time it will be a test eg. Hit so many targets, kill so many remotes, avoid being hit so many times. That would be pretty cool.

I'm not expecting a whole lot of excitement from the training room. Just like every other game(exception of No One Lives Forever), I expect that it will be the common "press x to jump over the barrier", "c to go under it and move quietly", "stack the boxes up so you can get up onto the platform." Same old, same old.

I dunno, those distances seem pretty big for normal jumping. I mean even the horizontal distances are pushing it, but to go up at the same time? I think that for sure you'll have to use the force. I mean what point would there be to the level anyway otherwise?

But if you think about it, Dazilla, you could just Force Jump to the top one. The others are there for regular jump, good call Terminator.

On the other note, I don't think there will be a training level seperate from the story. If there is it will be implemented. Like was said before, there hasn't been a training level yet in a JK game.

And yes we will be able to carve through doors. At least in specific places. That has been said on some of the earlier previews that were let out. Something to the effect of we will have to use our lightsaber to cut a path through a door, but it will only work at certain areas.

Edit: I just thought of something!

Dazilla, you might be right. Because Kyle has 3 levels to every force power. The training would obviously be at the beginning. Maybe he can't Force Jump very high yet.

You're right, in Jedi Knight, you could have force jumped to the top, but remember, Kyle has allowed his powers to vanquish almost to the point of nonexistence. This exercise might be to get it going again. I'm thinking that probably when you start all the powers will be disabled, and as you go from training room to training room, the powers slowly begin to be available, albeit weakly.

Good point dazilla, but now :o words from me. Well in the movie the temple was huge it wasn't some tiny little thing and well maybe it seems like simple jumping to you, but if the temple is that big perhaps the rooms are really big and we just don't know it, besides not all jedi's are humans and some monster dudes could be jedi and would have an unfair jumping advantage :D
