Well, for me it's a toss-up between getting the latest game or the latest DVD film... ;) I also just use the DVD drive (with PowerDVD) in my PC for DVD playback at the moment, so my selection of titles is rather limited as well...

Men In Black (Special Edition)

Alien (Boxed Quartet)

Deep Rising

Tremors 2

This Island Earth

Blade

Tomorrow Never Dies

My wife and kids have a few others, like Shrek, Toy Story 2, Star Trek Inusurrection, The Fugitive, Space Cowboys...

Of course...there are a ton of other films I want to add to that collection - especially some of the SF Golden Oldies (some of which I already have on VHS). I have made the conscious decision not to purchase any more video tapes...I'd rather get the DVD versions. :)

I'll try to list them, but I know I'll forget a ton.

The Phantom Menace

Saving Provate Ryan

The Matrix

Evolution

Rush Hour 2

Jurassic Park

The Lost World

Monty Python and the Holy Grail SE

Ferris Bueler's Day Off

and last, but not least,

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie

I know I forgot some, but thoe are the ones worth remembering.

Very true, but...

1. Until recently, VHS has (mostly) been cheaper than DVD.

2. Some films/tv series have not been available on DVD until recently (and some are still unavailable in that format).

By conscious decision, I mean I actually purchased a few DVDs before I ever had anything to play them on, and also the fact that I will probably hold out on getting a film/tv series until it is released on DVD. :)

I won't be getting any Star Wars DVDs until they bring out the boxed collection, that's for sure. ;)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie

Just had to have it eh? ;)

Is that the only Turtles movie on DVD? I haven't seen any of the others on DVD. Not that they are very good, but it might be cool to have them.

Which version of Starship Troopers? The decent film or the GREAT tv series Roughnecks?

i might be tempted to get a dvd player now the dvd prices are coming down to a sensible price.. it just bugs me to shell out £20 for a film i already have just to get some deleted scenes and a commentary that i will probably watch a total of once...

if the LOTR dvd lives up to my expectations, that might be the turning point though.

(and it would be nice to be able to watch my VCDs on the big tv downstairs... ;) )

Uh, the much higher picture quality is a pretty good reason to get DVD as well.

5. The whole Gundam Wing series. (10 DVDs total)

6. Final Fantasy : The Spirits Within

It would take a while to type out all my DVDs. Safe to say it consists of all the best sci-fi and action movies out there. I run these movies on THX speakers using a DLP front projecter for a very large and sharp image.

Why do need to pay twice for the same movie?

I'd just like to take the time to say that this is the best movie EVER. If you haven't seen it, see it now. Go. Rent it. Buy it. Watch it. Now. :)

Actually The Matrix Revisited is a two hour documentary on The Matrix, and doesn't include the film. It also has little featurettes on things like the Animatrix shorts, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions, and The Matrix Reloaded video game. It's like the supplemental disc that should have come with the movie in the first place.
