ZePhyR
I took somebody's advice from my last thread, and have decided to go with the GF3 Ti200. Is this a wise choice? Is it worth the $133? What you guys say REALLY influences my decision because I'm doing it mainly for this game. Also, should I order it sometime within the next 2 weeks, or wait until my March 5 payday? And should I preorder JK, or just buy it at a store? DECISIONS DECISIONS!
ZePhyR
Here is the link to where I'm probably going to buy it. http://208.158.105.29/P_1185.htm
Roger
You can't go wrong with a GeForce 3. So buy it and you won't be disappointed. One thing though, the page says it's a Geforce 3, but what brand? Also, have a look at the gainward Geforce 3 Ti 200 with 128 MB RAM. Makes a lot of difference if you play a game in high rez and hig quality textures.
OnlyOneCanoli
Yeah, I heard about that Gainward card. I was sleptical at first, but I guess it's for real. Sounds pretty cool to me. And you can't go wrong with the GeForce 3. It'll be running your games for a long time (in computer time, anyway).

ZePhyR
It says "House Brand..." Is that a bad thing? Does the brand of the card really make a diff?
Emon
1. NEVER buy generic crap from generic stores like House of Computers, they SUCK! 2. NEVER buy Gainward cards, they are really crappy, even if they have 128 MB of RAM. Go with companies like Gigabyte, MSI, VisionTek, LeadTek, PNY, Asus or Hercules. Wacky_Baccy
That's partly what the forums are for And I tend to agree with him - before I saw the light (in the form of ATi ) I did a bit of research into nVidia cards, and what I found seems to agree with what Emon said

I have a gainward GeForce 3 Ti200 and I'm perfectly happy with it. Please, give some foundation for your opinion.
Sherack Nhar
Gainward was once a crappy brand when it came to video cards, but now their latest cards are receiving high praises. I have no doubt that you will be satisfied with a Gainward one, Zephyr. Times are changing. It's just like when people said NEC monitors were the best. Today, they only make crappy ones. Same goes with ASUS motherboards...just ask Matt
OnlyOneCanoli
And me, hehe. A7A266 was a horrible experience. And if I were about to put down $100+ of my own money, I would research benchmarks and reviews on my own and combine that knowledge with what the forum-goers say... WD_ToRMeNt
I just noticed that the ATI Radeon 8500 is priced at only 199 USD now. It's about the level of a GF3 ti 500 but cheaper.
ZePhyR
Thx for your advice guys. Uh, any idea where I could find benchmarks on particular brands?

Ham Yoyo
The GeForce3 Ti 200 is awesome. I bought a Visiontek a week and a half ago at Best Buy when they had a $50 mail in rebate on one for a final cost of $149.99. But the rebate has ended. Keep checking http://www.pricewatch.com
Roger
Newegg.com has the 128 MB Geforce Ti200 for $175. You can't beat that price for a card like that! Ps. I buy all my stuff at newegg, good prices and good service.
ZePhyR
I've pretty much decided that I will be going with the GF3 Ti200. What about brand though? Would this one be okay? http://www.newegg.com/app/specification.asp?item=14-127-
Roger
basicly all the GeForce 3 Ti200 cards are the same. You want a good brand because of the quality and the support you will get with a good brand. If anything goes wrong, driver support, or anything else related to the card, you want to be able to contact the maker of the card and have a quick repsonce. MSI is a good company, I own two motherboards made by them, and I never had any problems.
