For single player, I enjoyed the original Dark Forces the best, hands down. The first SW FPS during a time when the genre was still pretty new to me, what more could I ask for? That was a magical time. DF also was a damn good game on its own merit, Star Wars or not, trouncing other clones in the same genre.

JK single player also set a high-water mark in its genre, and it was the first time I got to use a lightsaber and the force fps style, but the story never drew me in as much. Really though, the nostalgia of the original DF is just too much to beat out in my brain. :D

I also like MotS for the Force Powers but JK1 had a better story and higher quality music for that matter. They introduced colored lighting in MotS...that was cool! Dark Forces was good and it's been said that it's the only game that actually improved on the DOOM engine. I remember my friend just bought a 3dfx Voodoo 1 card and before that we were playing without acceleration and then he enabled it and it brought a tear to me eye! That was the first game I saw with true hardware acceleration!

Dark Forces Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith was the game with Light and Dark side Force powers. Dark Forces: Jedi Knight only allowed you to choose either Light or Dark not both. :)

The choice of being light or dark puts JK just above DF for me.

MOTS was again close but not being able to kill Kyle at the end annoyed me. Not to mention those *)&%*^$^%*## wolves on the last couple of levels.

MOTS was the most fun multiplayer though.

you should have played DF back in 1995

It was my first CD...

Kust like K-Ti ;) says it was magical, something really new. It was amazing. And JK story didn't drew me in as much either

Bowen I don't get your post. You say DF was based on the doom engine  and that It had 3D acceleration:confused: I guess you refer to MotS or JK when you talk about the vodoo1

Dark Forces all the way... One of the best games I have ever played, and the level designs were well thought out and blew everything else out of the sky at the time. Alot of the custom levels people have made for Dark Forces even surpass the original level designs.

Wow, I'm surprised there's so many people that agree with me about DFs being the best of the series... (which I'm happy about, ofcourse :)).

For me, Dark Forces didn't only have the "magical feeling" to it because it was the first game I actually played all the way through, but also I honestly feel that Dark Forces had the best level design ever seen in an FPS. Period. It also just had such a cool feel to the levels... It actually felt like Star Wars--unline JK (IMO). The weapons all had this special unique feel to them, and felt like SW, which I liked. Getting each weapon was also very cool, as each marked a special achievement. Speaking of each weapon having a unique feel.... the Levels in Dark Forces each was completely different from the next. Totally different atmosphere, totally different colors, and different enemies, and level design... All were ellements that made each of the levels purely genious.

Also.. back to the level design again... I absolutelty LOVED the secret areas in the game. It gave it this really cool mysterious feel to it. Such as in the first level; Secret Base, there's a HUGE secret area with a fairly difficult way of getting into it. Unlike Jedi Knight, where, if you see a crack in the wall, then that's a secret area... the secret areas in JK were lame for the most part, while DF's were big, and not as easy to get to...

There were puzzles in DFs... really cool ones too I might add. Such as the one in level 10 (I think it's level 10), well whatever number it is... the Imperial City level. It forced the player to give some thought to complete the levels, instead of just mindless shooting.

Then there was the story... As several people said; Jedi Knight's story didn't draw them into the game much, and I agree. But at the same time, Dark Forces really drew me into the story. And I also thought the cartoony cut scenes were really cool .

Another aspect I loved in DFs were the enemies in Dark Forces... Ok, so maybe the AI wasn't that great (ok, it was plain bad...), but it worked for the game. Each of the enemies all had this unique 'special' feel to them that the weapons and levels all had. And alot of them were just plain cool... such as the Dark Troopers (see my sig and avatar... :p) . The first time I fought each of the Dark Troopers were all so cool and myserious.. The Phase 1 on Gromas, was awesome, though sadly, I don't rememeber that one as well as the others... The phase 2 on the Ice Planet... That level in and of itself was purely genious... the ice cleets... the slippery ice... the level design (and the max map), and to top it all off, the battle with the Phase 2 Dark trooper in that noxious fumes room, wehere you have to press those 3 switches... It was sooo cool fighting in those tubes that light up as soon as Kyle walks on them... And then seeing a Phase 1 or 2 Dark Trooper at the end of the tunnell... Very cool. Lastly... there was the Final Battle. IMHO the final level wasn't a highlight in the relm of Dark Forces levels, but it was still good. However, the final battle was fairly challanging, but not too hard.... And there was this bit of "mysterious" and coolness factor of General Mock... I thought the dialog he said right before he fights Kyle is pretty cool... I still remember it after all these years...

"It's been a long time since I've challenged a man to battle... I'm glad my opponent is so worthy...."

I hope Jedi Outcast will revieve some of what Dark Forces had, and if possible, expand on the feel of the levels that made it so good.

But unfortunetly, it seems JO is based more appon Jedi Knight then anything... which isn't surprising, considering how popular it is... But don't forgot the game that started it all...

Part of what made Dark Forces so good was the fact that Kyle was just a normal guy with an infinite knowledge of how the empire works... But then in JK Kyle becomes a Jedi, which ruins some of the feel of 1 man against so many (because all he needs to do is just press F8 a bunch of times and Kyle is completely safe...).

I just hope that I catch a glimpse of the glory days of Dark Forces in the first 5 levels of JO... And if so, then I'll be able to enjoy the rest of the game as a Jedi, since it would truely be a sequal to Dark Forces then...

Woah.. that got kind of long there...

I think you have a Padawan in the making there, Krayt ;)

And now for the on-topic bit...

I've never played Dark Forces, so I can't really comment, but IMO, JK was considerably better than MotS - if only for the story, and I doubt that I would think DF better than JK even if I had played DF when it first came out... but I'm probably wrong, as usual :D
