note i said shreck and not aotc a computer MIGHT be able to run that, but the only use i see for the aotc engine for a pc is a firestarer.

I might be a little out of the loop here, but 'aotc engine'?

What about the newer versions of the Lithtech engine. Lest we forget AvP2 and NOLF.

OMG, NO LITHTECH! I can't speak for NOLF, but AVP2 MP is the absolute crappiest online experience I've ever had. Yes they released a new one, but they have no credibility in my book. Ping fluctuations of 100- 4000???? up to 75% packetloss? I have a cable modem and play on dedicated servers. You can't really expect a good game unless you connect to a T1 hosted server, and then pray. THE WORST netcode ever. To steal a line from momma Gump, "playing AVP2 online is like a box of chocolates..."

And do they listen to customer complaints about it? No. The patches since it's release don't address the problem and they haven't made any kind of statement stating they are working on it. They would rather add an exosuit for marines and a queen for the aliens than address the MP gameplay issue.

Don't mean to get excited and rant, but AVP2 is a fun game (alittle short in SP), I like it alot. It's just the bad MP code and apparent lack of support is frustrating.

Peace, HBK

Don't forget that the Lithtech Engine is hardly the greatest looker either. I can hardly see Raven, Lucasarts, or whoever would devlop a hypothetical JK3 choosing an engine so that the next game in a series looks worse than the previous one.

To be honest, I really don't know why any developers bother with the Lithtech engine. The gameplay in AvP2 was OK, but the graphics sucked big time. Those character and NPC models were horrendous (and weren't exactly helped by some of the worst voice acting ever - anyone notice that pilot woman in the Marine episodes with the dreadful english accent? They said in PC Zone that she made Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins look talented or something). I think the game would have been so much better using the Quake 3 engine. Can you imagine how cool it would have been to have huge alien infested cavern levels stuffed with curves?

I know we haven't seen much of the latest build in NOLF2 yet either, but from what I have seen I'm not impressed, especially with Unreal 2 due out in a few months.

I think the Unreal II engine would be nice, especially because its better than the Unreal Tournament 2 engine. Maybe even the Quake 4 engine may be a worthy contender when its finished.

The reason I put UT2 instead of U2 (the game of course) is because one....UT2 is scheduled for a release at the end of June and U2 is scheduled for a Christmas release, not to mention both engines are virtually identical so U2 is really using the Unreal Tournament II engine.

If this is confusing i dont blame ya

What engine are you referring to? If there is to be another Jedi Knight game and if Lucasarts lets Raven do it again (which I think they will assuming there will be a JKIII)? Raven has more experience than anyone with Quake engines and since they are doing Quake IV, and Quake IV is using the DOOM III engine (which of course Raven will modify like they usually do...for the better of course) then Jedi Knight III will probably be using a modified version of the DOOM III engine.

I'd go with the Unreal engine. I think I read somewhere that the DOOM III engine might not be able to cope well with large outdoor areas due to the new lighting techniques it uses.

The Unreal engine is still one of the best looking, plus it's modular so they can update it as they please, it supports massive outdoor levels, can definitely handle huge vertical drops, and I expect it to have a lot of the DOOM III functionality by the time that game is released. :)

sorry Raven

Well AOTC is a movie, but we're talking about game engines here....the core of a game. Sure Episode II was made with computers quite heavily but they usually use Silicon Graphics for something like that and I'm sure all movies even ones with no 'CGI' in them are edited on computers. Game engines are quite another thing. ;)
