Lord Helmet Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 i hear alot of people saying they won't even aspire to being a jedi b/c it is unlikely they'll become one and they say they'll be a mechanic or a bartender shopkeeper etc.. let me ask u this, why dont you play life if thats what you want to do on a game?
Madcow Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 can you be a pale unusually acurate Sharpshooter who works for a giant ugly slug and kills jedi on sight in real life? I THINK NOT!! BAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAH!!!! :bdroid2:
Gaalgoth Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 Greg, who are you to criticize what people want to be in the game? everyone has different tastes. If everyone wanted to be a jedi, we wouldn't have much of a game, would we? Being that it is a player-driven economy, those bartenders and shop keepers you are bashing are much much more important than jedis. To tell you the truth, at least as far as the game world is concerned, jedis are the least valuable of any class. The only real reason I can see that they are in the game are as a reward for trying really hard and because too many people would cry like a little bitch with a skinned knee if they weren't in the game.
MikeC Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 The world of Star Wars is far beyond Jedi, and that's what most people want to experience in SWG. If all you want to do is swing a lightsaber then go buy Jedi Knight or Jedi Outcast.
Rommel Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 The problem here is that you are assuming that what I or anyone that "doesn't aspire to be a jedi" wants to be in game is their ideal persona in real life. I use RPG's and games in general as a sort of escape from my real life, I mean hey I work in an Emergency Room, does that mean that I hate my job if I don't want to be a doctor in the game, no I love my job but there is a small part of me that wants power, money etc etc, and that part of me will explore itself in games like SWG. Do I aspire to be a jedi....no, but I would welcome it IF my choice of career in SWG happens to be the random selection that lets my character become force sensitive. I think I'd enjoy being a jedi, the challenge etc etc, BUT that doesn't mean I think it is realistic to put all my eggs in one basket and say "well I'm going to be a jedi and thats that!". That kind of aspiration would be a large part unrealistic and would not let you enjoy the game when you realise that your not going to become a jedi. For me my goal is to become a manufacturer, contract out plans to novice and expert designers for things I can build be it blasters, droids or whatnot, and sell them, making a lot of money for myself. Thus I can become a corporate giant in the game, where someone pisses me off I can hire 20 bounty hunters to track them down. Rommel Designer Manufacturer Meglomaniac Rich Bastard "hey wanna buy a blaster?"
Jan Gaarni Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 Greg, U do realize that this is Star Wars? It's much more than being a Jedi. I've been dreaming about living in this Universe since the day I got hocked - doing anything - being a smuggler, a pilot for the Rebellion, Empire, the Hutts, hell even a pirat organisation if I wanted to. Or just opening a shop, or run a company manufacturing weapons, ships, tools, toys ... whatever sells. Now where in the real world can I do this? Nowhere! Like Mike says, if I want to be a Jedi, I play JKII. Don't get me wrong, IF I find out I'm Force Sensitive I will explore it and might even become a Jedi. But I'm not holding my breath. Expect nothing, and you won't be disappointed!
Lord Helmet Posted May 9, 2002 Author Posted May 9, 2002 i was mostly talking about the people who want to be hairdressers and the such not smugglers bounty hunters etc
MikeC Posted May 9, 2002 Posted May 9, 2002 Quote since the day I got hocked Jan, did somebody sell you to a pawn shop?
Wraith 8 Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 yoh Jan.. have you ahd any idea to what sort of proffesion you will do???
Jan Gaarni Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 Not a clue yet, but I'm gonna keep it close to what it says in my biography I wrote. So far all that is known is that I worked for a smuggler gang once but as of this time noone knows where I am. Including me. "HELP!!! I'm lost!!!"
Darth Maxx Posted May 10, 2002 Posted May 10, 2002 What I wanna be in the first place, is a pilot, but flying spaceships will only be available in the expansion, I'll try some bounty hunting, hunting or droid building. Jedi... maybe, and if I become a Jedi(unlikely) I'll certainly choose the Dark side
Zendjir Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 Until the expansion comes out, I'll be a merchant, trading goods from here to there, and from there to here. But after the expansion comes out...I'm going to get mean! I'll continue my merchant business with my cargo freigther in space, and I'll use my fighter (fighter group of NPC's if thats possible) to 'persuade' my competition to get out of my way . I havent worked out my character any further, but thats what it will be. If by some twist of fate I become a jedi......I dunno what I will do then..... probably use my powers to 'persuade' the competition a little more. Muhahahahahaa! ...I really should get back to studying.......
Darth Maxx Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 Hehehe, Droid builder seems kewl, too. But I guess I'll only know what I'm gonna be once I have become it. Just have to wait until the fall I gues... Btw: A wire maker to help the rebellion get those :atat: down would be cool as wel
Ascari Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 Aha, do not underestimate the hair dressers for they might be putting homing devices in your back so that the imperials will know about your rebel base! Anyway, I dont know yet what i'm going to do in SWG. Maybe participate in some races, smuggling etc. But maybe by some twist of fate I become force sensitive I'll choose the light side of the force.
setsuko Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 A world where EVERYONE is a smuggler or a jedi would be quite dull, right? Obviously, greg, you missed the point that a lot of people plays these games as a social recreation. Who has the most contact with people, the bounty hunter that sits on a rocky asteroid, camping a space slug, or the mercant in a crowded town square? I guess that is my answer to why some people don't get as tempted to play 'kr3wl j3d1" as they are tempted to play something with... you know... interaction .
Ascari Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 And a Merchant isnt always in the shop. I will probably be some sort of merchant myselve. Put an NPC in my shop, give him/her/it part of the profit. As for me, i'll do the stocking etc. That will be my primary load. As for my secundary (hidden) load will probably be weapons for the rebel cause or something And then hope I dont get caught, but having a shop would be a good cover
power_ed Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 hell, i wanna be a mechanic, bartending, shopkeeper who does jedi stuff in his spare time ... :D

Crazy_dog no.3 Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 I wanna be an Alliance technician who repairs thier bases/vehicles.
Sckitzo Posted May 11, 2002 Posted May 11, 2002 Yeah, for one Im glad they made it hard to be a Jedi, last thing I want to see is half a million Jedi runnig around. But My first chacter will be a Twielk, hopefully ill be able to train her to be a jedi if im lucky, then when space expanison comes out, Imp. Piliot here i come
Ulic Quel Droma Posted May 12, 2002 Posted May 12, 2002 Well, im glad to say im going to try my hardest to become a jedi, then if i do im not gonna run around showing off, i might become a moister farmer on tatooeen (sp) or something or maybe build a little caben in the forest of naboo and hunt for my food, you know the peaceful life
Darth Maxx Posted May 12, 2002 Posted May 12, 2002 I'm seeing it allready. I'm in the back of my shop, repairing a droid. Suddenly, I hear someone coming into the shop. A man, his face hidden. Suddenly, he takes something out of his pocket, I hear a silent zoooeefff, I take the blaster from my right ankle. And bam, stupid Padawan, couldn't reflect the lasers yet. It's a shame
