First, Microsoft don't have unlimited funds. However, bringing the Xbox's price down to 200$ shows how much they are commited to the project. It's a great news for gamers.

They're not trying to take down the big N, they're simply trying to grab a share of the pie. Dominance isn't their goal with the Xbox: they want to show the world that they can launch a good console too. Dominance of the market will be for Xbox 2 or something else.

ok with 50 billion, u never run out...

and they dont show crap about beeing "commited", they only want to sell Xbox and make more money, #1 reason why Microsoft went into the business, unlike Nintendo, there #1 reason for the GameCube is to bring orginality and amazing gameplay to players, that's why they make there own game..so they know its Nintendo quality...

Microsoft doesnt give crap about there game, has long has they have alot of them and they bring lots of money

**** YOU MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!

sorry bout that

Sorry to burst your bubble, but when Nintendo entered the home console market with the NES they did it for the money and the money alone. Nintendo is no different than any other business in the world: they're here to make $$$.

That said, the goal of that company does not necessarily hinder the quality of their products. Nintendo can dish out amazing games, but they're still here to make money, just like Microsoft.

Now Bill Gates might have more than 10 billions in his pocket thanks to his company, that doesn't mean he's ready to spend it all for the sake of Xbox. If the console market proves to be highly unprofitable, Microsoft is going to pull out, just like any company would (take SEGA for example).

I think you need to put aside your feelings for Nintendo and look at the market with an objective view. Microsoft has made a respectable console with many good games on it. Any self-respecting gamer wouldn't pass on those exclusives just because Microsoft is a monopoly in another completely different market.

i can agree with most of what your saying, but when NES was out, they didn't have any competition, so of course they wanted to do money..but now it's different, of course, every company wants to make money, but looking at the industry of gaming, Nintendo is concentrating more of their time on original game, and it shows they work for their money..

Im an anti-Microsoft, and it doesn,t matter how good Xbox is, I will always hate it, just like I hate Windows and all there bull ****...I just hate people who say they want to make a difference in gaming, when there only using money and not there head, I have respect for the people who make game, not people who pay to get the games and claim they did it...

NES did have competion. The first Sega(not the Genesis the one before that). No game system ever had the market to itself. Atari had Colecovision(sp?). Nintendo just absolutely dominated the market back then.

I also agree with Sherack. If you think Nintendo isn't in it for the money then you are naive. 1st rule of business is profit. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are very big businesses.

No you're wrong.

If they can make profit without an idea do you think they are going to throw it out. I can guarantee you that if Nintendo could have found a way to be the number one selling system in the world without changing anything since the NES there wouldn't have been a SNES or GameCube.(Look at Ultima online. It's so popular they don't want to risk updating it cause they are afraid to lose business(profit).

The idea is the business they are in which is creating consoles and games. They aren't gonna build the better mouse trap or a refrigerator that cooks your food for you. They already have their idea, create games and a high end system.

That's how companies think(forget about ideas, ideas come about because of profit not the other way around) "How can we make the most profit."

I don't mind Microsoft entering the console business... since Sega isn't in the console race anymore all that were left was Nintendo and Sony... with Microsoft in there they'll be more competition, better games and lower prices. The GCN come out at a low price of $320aus down here in Australia so Microsoft suddenly lowered the X Box price down to $350 a week b4 the GCN actually came out.

Of course Nintendo games are better. Welcome Microsoft, the game designers of 'Age of Empires'. The game that after the first day of fun, you realise that sawing your head off with a rusty saw would be more entertaining. But, oh no, you can't affored a saw, you just bought the worst game on the planet with your money. Okay, I may be exadurating a little. But, Nintendo need no introduction. With over 100 years of gaming experience, they're bound to make better games.:p

Blah, I'm not going to argue about Microsoft. Microsoft is a great company. They've worked hard and deserve all the success they've gained. They're a business. Live with it.

That said, Microsoft loses around $400 per Xbox sold, and as a result will lose 1.1 billion next year, 750 bil or so this year. The console is also meeting with very little success anywhere but America.

Be more open minded. There are no bad systems. Only systems that don't have games that fit your tastes. Badmouthing the X-Box because it's Microsoft is as intelligent as badmouthing the Gamecube saying that it's 'kiddy' or badmouthing any system while using words like 'u' and 'r'.

I own all three main systems right now and I'm happy with all of them.

I agree, Microsoft are a reputable company and their expansion into the game market is a GOOD thing. Reasons? Well, for a start, there will be more games and the games and the consoles will be less expensive due to competition.

Nintendo aren't the most original gaming company on the planet. Sure, they are innovative, the games are of excellent quality, but by no means are they original - some exceptions as always. They were original - but not so much anymore.

The fact is that all 3 consoles have games that I desire to own.

If you want to start a thread bashing a particular company, why not do it in a neutral forum? Or are you afraid of being contradicted?

This is a very good point. There is no way Sony drops the price of the PS2 if there was no Xbox.

Anyway, in any business competition always benefits the customer.
