Shmi=Jedi?

OK- I'm still a lil confused about the whole there is no father- I carried him, gave birth to him, I can't explain what happened bit in Episode:1.

OK I get that Shmi never had sex with anyone so Anikan has no father, but I was always under the impression that midiclorients (spelling) were only found in Jedi's, and so I don't really understand how Shmi could conceive Anikan without midiclorients-if that makes sense?

OK- I'll try and explain in point form :p

*Anakin was conceived by the midiclorients (spelling)

*I thought the midiclorients was only a jedi thing

*If Shmi is just a normal person- that means she doesn't have midiclorients in her body

*It just doesn't seem normal or possible that midiclorients are just gonna appear outta nowhere and conceive Anikan in Shmi

*I just think Shmi must have some sort of midiclorients in her body for her to conceive Anakin

*Just would have seemed more logical for the force to possibly pick someone with a Jedi background to conceive Anikan

*How did QuiGonn know that Anakin was a jedi but not Shmi? Is it possible the only reason the force was sensed in Anakin is because of the pod racing and how he uses the force in that without realizing? Shmi does nothing at all- force wise I mean, she just cooks and cleans and does slavery work. Anakin was racing pods, which if you remember the quote you must have jedi reflexes if you can pod race

I know I'm female and I get confused sometimes :p but that whole part I seriously don't get in the movies- everything else makes sense to me (well pretty much so, but that bit I just don't get)

I'll give it a shot to try and explain it all.

*I thought the midiclorients was only a jedi thing

I think high counts of midichlroians is a Jedi thing, but they is found in everyone in some amount.

"*How did QuiGonn know that Anakin was a jedi but not Shmi? Is it possible the only reason the force was sensed in Anakin is because of the pod racing and how he uses the force in that without realizing? He knows Anakin has potential because he can feel it through the force.

"I know I'm female and I get confused sometimes but that whole part I seriously don't get in the movies- everything else makes sense to me (well pretty much so, but that bit I just don't get)"

Don't beat yourself up, I'm pretty sure by the time Ep III comes out there will be plot holes, this may possibly be one.

Yeah, valorXII pretty much sums it up...

Midichlorians are found in every being in the starwars universe and kind of live in the blood of them like helpful parasites. Only in jedi there are many more and they develop a connection with them... sorta... I don't know if I really like this explaining of the force in technical terms, i'm sure lucas just wanted it to be like magic, and unexplainable... maybe not, he directed epi1...

The funny part is that the midichlorians ermm.... I dont know the word in english, but they "helped" conceive anakin, and i didnt know they were sperm cells. But then again, it was probably with the aid of the force. What do you guys and girls think?

Also, i think i read somewhere that jedi can sense every force user across the whole galaxy if that person uses the force, and they can also sense the birth of force users. Compare it to a completely dark room with every force user being a candle. When a force user uses the force the candle lights up, more brightly if they use the force more powerfully. That would explain why vader could sense obi-wan and luke from across space. But i don't know if that's a EU thing.

If you knew George Lucas (which i dont, personally), you'd know that he has gobs and gobs of books on world religions and philosophies and whatnot on which he based Star Wars on. The whole "concieved by the force" .....hmm, where have we heard that before? A woman having a child that did not have a father? Sounds familiar....The Bible maybe? I mean, its pretty clear. The whole thing is just that Lucas using symbolism. Anakin=Jesus.

Many Christian civic groups screamed foul when Anakin's "immaculate conception" origins were revealed. I think it's interesting that George did the scenarion in that manner. Though, I am curious. . .if Lucas meant to portray Anakin as the "perfect" Jedi(as someone mentioned previously, Anakin=Jesus)why have him fall into darkness? An ironic twist, perhaps? Maybe the contrast between Jesus and Anakin was just coincidence. Though with Lucas I doubt it. Just my $0.02.

Sure, anakin is meant to be a sort of "savior" and "balancer", but lets face it: From episode 1 he annoying and arrogant. AOTC only worsens this image. Only the "conceived without a father" has some sort of christian symbolism to it. That's my opinion, pardon me if i get the christian thing wrong, i'm not religious.

If anything I wouldnt be surprised if Luke is actually the Son of the Suns (the one who brings balance)- after all he didnt technically kill the emperor but he more than anyone helped Vader redeem himself.

Plus after the death of like every Jedi around him, inc Sith he is pretty much "The- only- One"!

That would be a cool twist if Lucas added this into ROTJ- something we didnt expect..........................

Just remember that just because Shmi doesn't remember the conception that it didn't happen. There are drugs, post traumatic stress (for example, after a rape), artificial insemination under anathesia and even possibly dark jedi mind tricks to consider. We don't know where Shmi came from before she became Wato's slave, after all.

Imagine if, for instance, Dooku was Anakin's father? What a magnificent setup: Yoda trains Dooku, Dooku trains Qui Gon, who trains Obi Wan, who trains Anakin (Dooku's son). Anakin's son Luke is then trained by Yoda. It all goes full circle. Wheels within wheels.

Dooku to Anakin in Episode III: "I am your father".

If that doesn't send Anakin over the edge, nothing will - and unlike Luke, he is unable to contain his rage and kills his father, sending him to the Darkside and into Sideous' grasp.

Just my thoughts.

Like Boba Rhett said ealier, The parents do not have to be force sensitive or Jedi for their children to become force sensitive.

Midichlorians are found in all living things take this excerpt from the Episode 1: The Phantom Menace script

ANAKIN: "Master, sir...I've been wondering...what are midi-chlorians? "

QUI-GON: "Midi-chlorians are a microcopic lifeform that reside within all living cells and communicates with the Force. "

ANAKIN: "They live inside of me?"

QUI-GON: "In your cells. We are symbionts with the midi-chlorians."

ANAKIN: "Symbionts? "

QUI-GON: "Life forms living together for mutual advantage. Without the midi-chlorians, life could not exist, and we would have no knowledge of the Force. They continually speak to you, telling you the will of the Force. "

So you see, Shmi had Midichlorians as does Jar-Jar, Typho, Padme etc. She just doesn't have the concentration that is required to become attuned to the force through the midichlorians.

The Midchlorians, by will of the Force, concieved Anakin. He is the chosen one. Referred to by the prophesy as the Son of Sons. Remember had Qui-gon relayed the news to the council?

QUI-GON: "With your permission, my Master. I have encountered a vergence in the Force."

YODA: "A vergence, you say?"

MACE WINDU: "Located around a person?"

QUI-GON: "A boy... his cells have the highest concentration of midi-chlorians I have seen in a life form. It is possible he was conceived by the midi-chlorians."

MACE WINDU: "You're referring to the prophesy of the one who will bring balance to the Force...you believe it's this boy??"

Obviosly the Jedi council was at first taken back, but the idea was certainly not unheard of, in fact, as I have previously mentioned, it was prophesied about and was known to most (if not all) Jedi! So the idea of a Jedi with no father should be accepted and not scrutinized to the point of falicy. It is George Lucas's vision that the main hero of his sage be a "divine" character who still has free will.

Anakin HAS NO FATHER! Lucas has stated that point to be crucial to Anakin's personal development and character. This leads to his pride (He is the chosen one), his closeness with Obi-wan (He has no father, so Obi-wan becomes his father figure. See Episode 2: Attack of the Clones) adding to Anakin's already existing confusion and indecision, and his personal reaction and choices made when his Mother dies (She is his only parent, and the only family he ever had). It is pivotal to the Star Wars story that the mystery and prophetic manifestation sorrounding Anakins birth continue to exist.

Anyways, back to the original question, It would seem that is common for Children to be tested for Force sensitivity in the Republic regardless of parentage (meaning, many Jedi-hopefuls are born to non-jedi) as alluded to by Qui-gon in Episode 1:

QUI-GON: "Had he been born in the Republic, we would have identified him early..."

Qui-gon suggest that even though Shmi was no Jedi, they would have tested Anakin anyways, had he been within the republic's reach.

However, in your defense, it would seem that midichlorians are heareditary as well. Anakin's children were obviously embued with the force, and, in fact, expected to be as seen from this excerpt from the ROTJ script:

BEN: "The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him. That is the reason why your sister remains safely anonymous."

This points to Jedi genetics being hereditary. So Jedi children being force-sensitive is a given, but midichlorians can randomly be concentrated in any givien lifeform regardless of parentage apparently. This is proven by the New Jedi Order books, if Vader and the Empire wiped out all Jedi, then why are there new force-attuned or "force-Sensitive" people being born throughout the Galaxy? It's because it is not required to have Jedi or "Force-sensitive" parents for the Children to be "force-sensitive". The Force can not be killed by killing all Jedi, the Will of the Force will live on and ensure the continuation of the Force in individuals throughout the galaxy.

So no, Midichlorians are not just in Jedi, but reside in every living cell of every living being. The higher the concentration of Midichlorians within a person's cells, the more attuned to the Force or "Force Sensitive" they are, making them possible Jedi candidates.

Hey, I was just referring to the Skywalker family tradition of cutting off each others' right hand. Seeing as Dooku did it to Anakin, I assumed he had to be a Skywalker.

Cheers,
