If I may suggest... maybe make the upper part of his head/scalp... smaller. Like scaled smaller. Ewan's head rounds out more at the top. That sounds difficult, but with a little selective vertex editing, I think it could be done. And the eyes need to come togethera bit... I believe.

nah, that wouldn't be difficult at all Scotchy, I'm just going to hold off any major changes until he has a better skin on him :)

 

Ok, these are very early shots, but here's Samuel L, it's my first completely from scratch SubD head. Before I used a much different technique to make my heads. Anyway, crits are very welcome :) 580 polys

Obi Wan:

 

-Bring his chin up more, especially at the corners.

-Nose: the bridge is too narrow(and long), the nostrils are far to round

-The split in his chin comes up more

-Move down his hairline(leaving the rest of the hair as is) while bringing down his eye position and nose position

-His lips need be thinner, and adjacent to the curve in his jaw(for proportion purposes);need to be closer in position to the (adjusted)nose

-eyes still need to be closer together

-Neck is to thick in comparison to his head

-ears need to come out more

Looks good, Toonces! I know Keo will be excited about this...

Some crits - the ear in the profile is too low, and his head has kind of a light bulb shape (easiest to see from the front)... perhaps consider not making it go out quite so far? You also should make a new thread for it.

Mace:

 

Very nice work so far, I like the headshape. A few crits....

 

-from a front view, the neck is a bit too long. Also try making it a little thinner.

-His ears are too big and out of position. The bottom of his ears should begin at a point adjacent to the bottom of his nose, and the top of his ears should end at a point adjacent to the top of his eyebrows.

-from the side view, his nose does not stick out enough. Also, the back of his head is too rounded. Check the ref pic.

-Finally, his eyes are too far apart and his head(around the temple area) needs to be moved inward a bit.

 

Looks good, Toonces! I know Keo will be excited about this...

EDIT: Also, move his lips down a bit in position, and his top lip should be a lot thicker.

Toonces:

 

Nice. The bottom of the ears need be raised up to where his nose starts. Also, the top of the ears come too far away from his head. The neck is MUCH better. The bridge of his nose should be slightly thinner. Concerning the side view, his nose looks better, but the modeling of the nose is not very detailed. Also, the back of his head still needs to be pushed in more, the curve should be very slight. Also, try to define the lines around his mouth and his upper lip.

 

edit: The length of his head from the side view(front of face to back of head) is to great. It needs to be reduced.

It's all good :) Ok, I made some suttle tweaks, I wanna get the shape of his head right before I move on to more detail. I'll define the noze a little better next time I update, the polys are there, I just have to push some verts around

Nice work toonces... very nice.

 

It seems like all I do around here it crit other people's work... but here goes: Sammy J has very pronounced cheekbones, check reference pics (I hate comparing other people's work, but...) or look at klorel's unfinished Sam. I suppose that could be accomplished as a skin element, but maybe some of it could be modeled. And keep his eyes in mind... he has bigger eyes than your average guy.

 

I like what you've done so far (Kit fisto was great.) and I'm just trying to help out a little.

 

EDIT: Now that I check the reference pics, I think you know what you're doing. :) I retract my observations. The headshape is perfect.

in pic 9 he looks like an ape, maybe his face is out too much or his head isnt high enough... and man hes got a big forhead. but id really have to see ref pics and im not sure if there are any in this thread as i havent looked at it since like page 1.

Good job with the ears Toonces. The other adjustments look good too. The comment I made about pushing in the back of his head, it still could be pushed in some more. Otherwise, why don't you have someone whip up a preliminary skin? It will be alot easier to give constructive crit.

Yeah, that's going to be the next step keo, it's much easier to tweak with some texture :)

 

Madjai, I'm not sure I agree that he looks like an ape from the side, Samuel L has very prominant cheek bones. I really need to get a skin on him :)

 

Anyway, I'll tweak a little more and do up some flats. Oh, I should have an Obi skin soon too

Prim, yeah, definatly valid nitpicks, if I bunch up the tabbards though like you suggest they won't quite look right in motion, blame LA and Raven for that. As for the boots, I like them myself, not 100% accurate, but you have to leave some room for some artistic liberties.

 

Anyway, I woke up early today and unwraped Samuel L's head, I'm on the fence about the mapping in the back of the head, but I'm gonna leave it as it is now unless Arco says he's bad

 

Anyway, just a quicky for you guys, especially you keo since your as big a fan of Samuel L as I am :D Next up is the texture

Yeah the head size is just a tad too small... kind of like that guy from Beetlejuice in the waiting room (fans of the movie will know what I'm talking about).

 

Also his hands looking freakishly huge... am I just mistaken, or do his hands look REAALLY big in that in-game pic?
