JEDI_Salvation
Wow! what can i say bro, youve taken this thing way beyond the pre-pre-beta (i guess youd call it) we first messed around with last year, and i was impressed by that, but this...absolutely incredible man. If you need anything, let me know, and if i'm capable i'll help you out keep up the good work as always, im proud of you man. -Salvy
Eldritch
Wow... ok, it's been a long time since an update. Those in the know knew that I was lacking a computer that could run JO (or even Radiant, for that matter) for some time. I kicked around a couple ideas in my head and after talking about it with various people, I've decided not to split the map up into 2 main parts as I had been planning to previously. To keep the level of detail I want to put into this, i'm going to need to break it up into more parts, so it's become sort of a map pack. There are a couple more locations I'm going to do, then I'll release the whole thing in a pack. So, for those that might be interested, here are some shots from a new section I'm working on. As always, please let me know what you think:
The Cheat
ok i have not checked this map out a lot but i was just wondering when i saw that picture, will the people in the paintings move and will the stair cases move? im not sure if it would be possible i was just wondering
Eldritch
@ The Cheat - It would be really difficult to animate even a few of the paintings. It would require many different shader frames to look smooth, and it would hurt FPS in a section that's already got a lot of detail in it. As for the staircases moving... well, I tried many different ways, but the current limitations of the MP engine will not allow me to move the staircases the way I want them to without modding the game. If the JA editor allows for such movement, then I will re-release this section. But for now, they'll remain static.
Chewie Bakker
Thanks for the update there, Eldritch. In the second pic it looks like there's an invitation to put a doorway in. That gonna happen? Heh, and you changed your avatar to Stewie. Family Guy puts the pee into PC. The Force will be with you, always.
The Cheat
ok, thanks eldritch, i figured something like that would really hurt the performance of the game so i didnt think it would be put in the map
Matt-Liell
That just keeps getting more frickin excellent Eldritch! Nice work!
Eldritch
@ Chewie - Yes, actually there will be many doorways leading off this section of the map. They will all lead to different hallways, classrooms, etc. This is the most detailed section I've created thus far, so it's going to be one of the larger maps in the pack. Glad you all like it. Hopefully I should have more to show in a few days.
Eldritch
*pant wheeze* After several hours of mapping, positioning / repositioning and nitpicking parts of my patches, I've finally got the start of Moaning Myrtle's Bathroom. It still needs the sinks in the middle, the windows, proper lighting, etc - but it's a start. Let me know what you think.
Captian
those pillars look great eldritch, are you gonna add torches to them? funny, i never imagined the hogwarts bathrooms like that, but i suppose everyone pictures it differently. are you using the films as a reference? (i hated the films lol)

Yes, the second film was the major reference in constructing this bathroom.
Eldritch
Here's another shot of the bathroom for you all to check out. This time I've got all the windows put in, and have started on the center sink area.
The Count
I don't really like Harry Potter and haven't seen any of the films and seriously doubt I wi;;; but I like the screenshots I've seen on this thread and I am impressed; the lighting, and effective implementation of textures is fantastic; well done! Wudan
Eldritch, you may not be an excessively prolific mapper, but you have my vote as the best. Perhaps the best there ever was, and ever will be. Excellent work. I only hope that someday in the future a project may come along where I might work along side you. Eldritch
Wow... I'm seriously not worthy of such praise. But thanks much for the kind words - they're always appreciated. :EDIT: Well guys, except for a few minor details, it's all wrapped up. Here's some shots :

Eldritch
A new shot showcasing a new floor in the staircase area. Textures are by no means final - just showing off the architecture (which still needs some tweaking).
Chewie Bakker
You truly are doing great archi & lighting work with this Hogwarts project. Keep it up. The Force will be with you, always.
Archonon
I've got to say Eldritch that your Hogwarts Beta is one of my favorite maps and I don't even like Harry Potter. And thanks also so much for botrouting it, very few betas (or final maps for that matter) have them. I recall you mentioned the final map had gotten so big that you were going to split it into 2 maps. Are you working on the first or second? Will you be releasing both together or separate? The map looks stupendous, man I wish you could make some LOTR maps as well.
Eldritch
Thanks for your usual positive comments, Chewie. I can always count on you for moral support. Archonon, that Hogwarts beta is horribly out of date (it'll turn 1 year old in November). But thanks for the comments just the same. As for the maps overall size... it is quite large, and due to the amount of detail I want to put into each section it's just not possible to have a smoothly running single map that looks as good as I want it to. So, I decided a few weeks ago that it would be a map pack, which allows me to add more detail to each section. I think it will work out for the better this way. Depending on the JA editing options that are available, I may or may not change this for release on JA. LOTR maps are a possibility - I won't rule them out out as a future project. Based on RotK's recent trailer I got some ideas about a Gondor-based map, but we'll see how it goes. On a side note, I fixed the stairway in one of the earlier hallways... it just didn't look good as it was so I redid it until I was happy with it. Archonon
Since you are mentioning the possibility of changing for JA, does that mean that the map pack will be incompatible with JA or affect negatively the JA SP game? I've had 2 maps (yavin twilight and Judgment Day) affect so far the first levels of the JA SP game. But for now at least everything else, including Hogwarts beta, seems to work fine. Will this change in the map pack or can I use it in JA also? I don't use JO anymore. One final and terrible question, will the maps be botrouted? I simply love how your maps look and that's how I can play them. Oh and Minas Tirrith would be kick ass! Thanks
Eldritch
The maps should be interchangeable between JA and JO, but i'll only be able to give a final answer on that when I get my hands on the JA editing tools. Of course the maps will be botrouted. I think botrouting is an essential part of any map (and so easy to do... I think people that don't do it are just lazy to leave their maps incomplete like that). lassev
Originally posted by Eldritch True. Oh, I just released a little teaser for the Hogwarts map pack. Enjoy! It was outstanding. Nice disclaimer, too However, as cool as the window light shaders look from certain angles, they had the problem of looking kind of hollow from other angles, if you know what I mean, so that it seemed as if the light was only coming as a very thin sheet next to the frames. Of course I don't have even the slightest idea how to prevent that, other than make them a little less eye-catching, so my ramblings are of little use. But overall they looked as fine as ever.
