Eldritch
Just a couple of general statements from another resident of the USA. 1) I've seen it mentioned a couple of times that we elected G.W. Bush, but in fact - he did not get the most votes. He whined and complained and couldn't accept the fact that Gore had in actuality received more votes (mind you, I didn't like either of them, but I voted for Gore because Bush is an idiot). I can't wait till the next election - i'm voting for whoever is running against him because I can't stand Bush. Bush has turned 9-11 into a political platform - a way for americans to not focus on how horrible his leadership is, how dumb and ignorant he is of other countries, and so we think he's great because he's off fighting some pointless war while he's really sending our economy into the toilet. 9-11, while it was a terrible tragedy, has been made into a much bigger deal than it should've been. Americans in general didn't care about terrorism when it was happening in the rest of the world. They didn't care that in many other countries terrorism has been running rampant. Yet all of a sudden we care because we've been directly affected... if we were really committed to wiping out terrorism we would've started it a long time ago. This "war" is self serving and pointless, and Bush is just adding fuel to the fire. That being said, i'll move on to my other, shorter points. 2) I have traveled quite extensively around the world and I know what most countries (especially in Europe) think of Americans. That is to say, they see us in stereotypes - dumb, loud, uncultured people with cowboy hats, Hawaiin shirts and cameras. They see us as a fat, lazy people. They see us in big cars on huge streets. And some of that is true. But it is wrong to group all americans into that category - as wrong as it would be to say all Germans eat bratwurst and play/listen to polka music. As wrong as it would be to say that all people in Amsterdam are porn addicted pothead criminals. Or that the Finnish people are blonde or redheaded idiots. Every country has its stereotypes and misconceptions - if you want to poke fun at Americans, I can join in... i've got a sense of humor. But most of what everyone has said has been stereotypes. If that's what you want this thread to be about, rename it "Making fun of American stereotypes" or something. 3) As for our cars... American cars, especially the SUV, are crap. Total, utter crap. But the majority of Americans don't drive American cars. We drive Honda, Acura, Hyundai, Mitsubishi... you know, imports! The kind that don't hurt the environment (Honda/Acura especially, all of them are ULEV) or guzzle gas. I hate the SUVs though... they're big, unnecessary, gas guzzlers that are the cause of most of our traffic accidents over here. Our streets are big because we have very large cities with no good method of public transportation (though we're slowly getting there)... one of the things I loved so much about Europe was that you DIDN'T have to drive a car all the time to get where you're going. In closing I think that a large portion of Americans only consider themselves, not the rest of the world. It's part of the problem with not living so close, the way Europeans do. We are geographically isolated, so it's hard to feel part of a whole when you don't get regular contact with other cultures. I think that if everyone had the experience traveling that I have, the rest of the world wouldn't hate us so much. And for Jah Warrior - your comment about the states sucking was totally uncalled for and a flat out insult, which is not what this thread is about. So consider yourself warned. icefox98
1: run by george w nuff said? Nuff said? You should have stopped there, man. Anywho, what country do you live in? Nuff said. (But Alas, I'm still going to go on, just like you.) People from the U.S. don't take comments from people on a video game forum about the U.S. seriously. A) They are probably jealous. B) The United States is the best country to live in hands down. It is always in the news in other countries, because frankly other countries have no news-worthy/earth shattering events happening (example: European countries such as sweden, finland, etc etc where some of you are from I assume.) So, a country always in the news and always being talked about is always going to be critiqued, but the truth is, wherever your coming from, has A LOT more problems than the U.S. Truth is, the U.S. actually does give you more freedom than any other country. In some ways this is bad (right to own guns, etc) but overall I would rather have a few problems with that than having individual rights taken away. Please: People critiqing the U.S. where do YOU live? I would like to write a little bit about your country.

Fool me, ya aint gunna fool me again." :D Hahaha, yeah I saw that too. Wow, I can't honestly believe we have someone as dumb as Dan Quayle as the president. But then again, I can. Bush is rich. Extremely rich. His Father was president. He was NOT elected. He was APPOINTED by the Supreme Court. He's not my President, that's for sure. We have had bad Presidents, thats for sure, and I can only hope that we get a really good democrat to run for the next election, so we can get Bush OUT. The vote can't be close, or else Bush will just steal it again. Another thing that a lot of people don't probably know...to start a War Congress needs to vote on it, then the President can send in troops, deploy whatever, etc...but Bush seemed to do this reverse with the war in Iraq. He said he was going to just send in troops and didn't even bother asking Congress, and people didn't realize this! For the U.S. to get into WWII, it took Roosevelt many years of showing why we should get in, and finnaly Congress ok'd it. This time around Bush just said he was going to have a War with Iraq...but something interesting I found out. Congress now has indeed voted. But, Bush MADE them vote to okay it, saying that he already sent troops over and if they voted no, it would make the U.S. look scared if they are pulling out of Iraq. So, the Congress Ok'd the War in Iraq and "gives the President the power to do whatever he needs in the Iraq Crisis." Frankly, to hear that on the news scared me. People think oh maybe we wont have a war with Iraq....this is the 100 percent Good to Go ticket, and trust me Bush will USE IT. One of the main reasons he wants to get Saddam, is because Saddam tried to assasinate Bush Sr., right after Desert Storm, and Bush, being raised on the Good Ol' Boys Texas rules, is going to avenge his Daddy and make him proud now that hes the President. This may sound kind of silly, and yes, it IS. I didn't believe it at first, until I read up on all of it...Bush is looking for revenge, and now that hes got the backing of the Congress, nothing will stop him. Sorry for the double post! Taos
lol, I thought the original topic of the thread was funny! Living in america, it seems like everyone is suing everybody else....... I know that's not the case but it just seems like ppl don't hesitate before thinking things through.......honestly, I'm really sick and tired of the lawsuits..... Prime Example: The group of ppl trying to sue Bin Laden because he is responsible for the 9/11 attacks. They say the money that they win will end the war because it will "break the terrorists backs." The will have no financial backing, no support for their activities. Are these ppl for real????? Sorry for my rant but I just get tired of it.......I got threatened with a lawsuit recently at the golf course I work at becuse of some idiot coming out into the middle of the hole I was playing and my ball had almost hit him......he was trying to tell me it was my fault???? *leaves quitely shaking head*
JandoFett1842
Honestly, not everyone in amercia sues people! The only real reason you would need to sue are if someone hurt you badly and they would not pay for your med and stuff or if someone like raped you or sexualy harrased you. Sides its not so bad livign here! I love it!! I wouldnt live in any other country!! So dont diss us!

Really showing the high-quality of our American Educational System. And before you respond with something like, "I was upset," or "I have dyslexia" (as so very MANY people on the forum say they do) or something along those lines, remember that what you say AND how you say it represents you as a person (and in a discussion like this, the US). Originally posted by Luc Solar Anyways, I just wish to point out that we're not "blonde or redheads".. I think the Irish are the redheads(?). We don't have those around here. And I'm guessing our "blond-count" is quite similar to yours in the States. As for all Finns being idiots...well... *cough* let's not discuss that matter any further. I was refering to the stereotype that all people from the Scandinavian (sp?) countries are blonde or red hair viking-types. And I won't discuss the matter of Finns being idiots if you overlook the US educational system. And icefox - relax. Most of the people here are only pointing out the funny stuff from the US - stereotypes being the main example. If you'd like, you can start a similar thread about any other country you'd like - but I'd bet you don't have enough info to start one. And this was kind of my point from an earlier post... Americans in general just don't involve themselves as much as they should in the rest of the world - partially due to our geographical location, but partially because we still have a "we're better than you, we're the best, let's talk about what's wrong with YOUR country" attitude. That attitude needs to be replaced by something more positive for us to have a truly global society.

Luc Solar
C'mon guys! You're, like...spamming my thread! But..umm.... sue Bin Laden?! Wow! Why didn't *I* think of that! Ingenious! But can you award punitive damages against a private person? Hmmm, well I'm sure some US judge will solve that matter in a nice impartial way. Sure hope they'll find a impartial (=never heard of Bin Laden or know anything about 9.11) jury too. So...where did they send the subpoena? Or..or...Hey! Maybe if they raised charges against Saddam and get a search warrant, they'd have access to all his palaces too! Woohoo! Screw UN! Okay, this reminds me of another funny thing that I've noticed (might have mentioned this earlier). Every time I have a debate with an American about legal issues, the same thing happens: they bring up the Constitution. Yeah...as if the Constitution would mean **** to anyone else. Imagine me pulling out the Finnish "Laki eräistä kansainvälisluontoisista perheoikeudellisista suhteista"- law and try to win a argument with that! What I'm saying is: There is some truth in what has been said about Americans only focusing on the USA and ignoring the rest of the world as insignificant.
