ok, if my computer had a dvd player (which it does) could i pause the movie and take a screen of what i saw and like use it to make gif, or would the pic end up being a black picture (as padamide told us)

I know that Real Audio appears blank when you try take screenshots of videos using RealPlayer.

I don't know if the same happens with DVDs, I don't think it does. Quicktime movies / trailers and DVDs shouldn't appear black.

I tried to get the background transparent, but I couldn't without merging all the layers.

But here's the best I could do:

 

Hopefully someone can finish it off by making the background transparent

(I tried JPEG, GIF and the final format, PNG; still didn't work )

I have Interactual Player and it works for me. I guess it might depend on what type of DVD player that you have.
