icepool
Now I dont know if any of you out there bought both versions like I did but I must say the picture quality between the vhs version to the dvd version is amazing. On vhs episode 2 looks like the picture quality was made 20 years ago with the rest of the episodes. On vhs the backrounds are faded and are not as 3d looking. They almost look like hand painted backrounds you'd see in episodes 4-6. On dvd the picture is crystal clear and everything shines and looks alive definately a greater format. But the reason for this thread is I beleive they almost made the tape version crapy on purpose. When I compare my phatom menace dvd and vhs the vhs dosnt look all washed out and faded like the episode 2 vhs. Also and I dont know if anyone has watched the documentaries yet bet my god did you see the seen from episode 4 where luke is talking to obi wan in his hut on tatooine. That scene was crystal clear on the dvd. It made the movie look new like it was filmed today.

I haven't seen the vhs and most likely won't. I did however, see the vhs of TPM and that was fine.....you're right about that.
Surfnshannon
i think its just the transfer from Digital Film to VHS. It most likely goes GREAT unto a DVD but probably to VHS it comes out in hideous quality. Like the Digital Theaters with Episode 2 looked soooo crystal clear - and when I saw it just at a reg theater some of the scenes looked messed up...The film looked fuzzy. So I think its because of the new digital filming thing. But I could be just smoking something and not know what the hell I'm talking about. I took my family to see it originally in a 'non-digital' theater. Then a couple of weeks ago we saw it in IMAX (quite awesome, if you can manage) and the difference was stunning. Just yesterday we were able to sit down and watch the DVD. We have a new 'home theater' sound system, and it was truly amazing - visuals and audio. Pad
i think its normal seein the evolution in pc things and almost none at tv things. when u do things digitally the qualty will be much greater then u can get on vhs. i only am glad i own the dvd version and i think the difference will be even greater in the future. untill vhs dies.
