What will Happen?

i think that you all are underestimating the value of a lightsaber. sure its impractical for fighting large scale battles but just think of the heists you could pull off. 8 inches of titanium walling around a safe would take most ppl some time *or at least a fair bit of noise* to open. with a lightsaber you dont have that problem. its small enough that ppl could disguise them as flashlights and get into... well anywhere. robbers would never have to break a window again, all new security systems would be required to keep your home safe.

it can wreck just about anything known. ooo big tank impervious to bullets and can take a helluva lot of explosions before it goes down *snap-HISS* oh.................... a big hunk of metal...... how nice.

it would also be invaluable for ppl trecking or hiking, a macheti may not be big and heavy but its bigger then a lightsaber and cant cook a ham :D ok ok a ham would be hard to cook with a lightsaber but i think it would help start the fire to cook the ham nicely.

vandalism would rise immensely and schools would have ppl sized holes on every wall. digging would be easier though, i mean if somebody can make one lightsaber, another person can make a BIG lightsaber and just stick it into the ground, evaporating whatevers in the way. very quickly i might add.

i think that in an actual war with lightsaber technology it would be part of the field gear. not used as often as a gun and certainly not as useful but necessary like a knife or a gas mask.

oh and finally i can see now what "fox" tv would do with some of those. oh the reality shows we'd see then "lightsaber trivia" you get it wrong: we keep one of your limbs :D

"lightsaber island" 30 convicts with lightsabers go in, 1 comes out rich as a oil tycoon and crazy as a mass murderer.

you laugh while i cry.

I don't doubt they will become a reality one day!

There was a funny video a saw months ago on 'Why lightsabers are not toys'. This little boy is opening his christmas presents and he discovers he got a lightsaber. He goes mad with it swinging it around in excitement. You see his grandmother in a chair behind him, suddenly her body splits in two. It's absolutely hysterical!

I think that video pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.

btw: If anyone know a link to that video, please post it, I can't find it anywhere now!

Lol, I saw that video too. and I'm also looking for it. I'll let you know if I do.

Lightsabers in many ways are superior to a normal sword. They are lighter, easier to handle, and very easy to conceal. The light saber is much more versatile than a steel bladed weapon which is why I think it's handled by specialy skilled people like the jedi and sith.

EDIT:

This movie sums up lightsabers in real life, lol. Here's the xmas saber video

you can see a really cool jedi lego battle at http://www.truedimensions.com/timesage/movies.htm

If you think about it, the lightsabre is actually pretty $h!tty as a weapon by it self, despite it can cut through anything and deflect/melt projectiles(though without the force you can only do this by luck), it is a Meelee weapon, with not even 1 and half meter range> All you can do is swing it, and this form of close range, Hand to Hand combat is long since out of date in warfare. It is the Jedi wielding the lightsabre that made it lethal. Force-enhanced Jedi reflexes allowed the lightsabre to be used as a defense, virtually impenetrable 1v1, and counterattack with deflections.

While useless in warfare and the sort, the lightsabre would be useful as a personal weapon... something concealable and dangerous in that way... and would probably be banned as an extremely dangerous weapon from 'civilians'.:D

Lightsabre's main use would be as an utility or tool, because of its cutting and penetration ability, NOT a weapon, imho anyway.
