Can any of you beat this?:

  • Pentium 4 2.40Ghz with 533Mhz system bus/ 512k L2 Cache
  • 512MB PC1066 RDRAM (2x256 Modules)
  • 120GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive
  • 128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX with TV-Out and DVI
  • 48x Max Variable CD-ROM
  • Secondary CD Drive; 40x/10x/40x Max CD-RW Drive
  • Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with DVD Audio

Its a notable improvement over my:

  • Pentium 3 500Mhz
  • 128MBs SDRAM
  • 12.7GB Hard Drive
  • 16MB TNT2 M64/64 Pro
  • Busted Pioneer DVD-14 DVD-ROM
  • Sound Blaster Live! Value

I think this may spark a power trip...

I supposed you all deserve an explanation for all this.

Well, see, a few nights ago, I had this weird dream where I would be in darkness, then a phosphorus flare would go up and I'd find myself standing next to Santa's sleigh and a barber-pole-looking thing sticking up from the ground.

So I called Cleo... You know, the chick on TV late at night!

Well, Cleo told me that the flare, white phosphorus, or "Willy Pete" as army types call it, represented me being shown the light. The barber pole thing represented the North Pole, which when combined with the first part, gave me Pete's Willy: North Pole. So she told me that Peter North was going to be an important figure soon.

Second, she explained that santa's sleigh represented world domination. She never explained that one, but she told me that my dream was telling me that Peter North is going to take over the world.

So, in all my infinate wisdom, I decided to get with the winning team early on, and maybe get a nice cushy senior official's job under the Northern Rule while you are all forced to shovel sidewalks naked.

Can't beat it, but why not a 3.06 GHz? Don't tell me you can't afford $ 800 for a proc.

512MB PC1066 RDRAM (2x256 Modules)

Not even 2x512 modules? You disappoint me. I mean, come on, you gotta be prepared for Longhorn, the much awaited WinXP follow-up.

120GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive

Ever heard of S-ATA? ATA/100

128MB DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX with TV-Out and DVI

9700Pro. Nuff said.

48x Max Variable CD-ROM

Not 52x? And what about a DVD player?

Secondary CD Drive; 40x/10x/40x Max CD-RW Drive

See above. Substitute "recorder" for "player".

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with DVD Audio

5.1 I guess? Your inferior speaker system can't handle 7.1?

I think this may spark a power trip...

Well, I guess not.

Well, my new comp at work came with a DVD-RW, and a 17" widescreen LCD screen.

The downside is that it's an iMac. :(

Actually, it's kinda slick, for a machine where all I do is check my email, calendar, and surf the net.

But it's still an iMac.

Does not compute.

So an old dvd-rom on a different computer broke two years ago and you decided that ALL dvd-roms, including new ones in a new (different) machine, are crap?

They cost more to. And I don't think i'll be watching DVDs on a computer anyway.

You bought a new machine (particularly a high end one) and the apparently non-cost (doesn't dell do a free dvd upgrade?) and the price stopped you.

Also, i am a firm believer that in the next couple years we'll see more dvd games.
