I dont quite get it. You can make a model but you want the current model (for quake3)? That's what I understood. And it doesnt make much sense.... just download the quake model if there is one.... I must be reading your post wrong.

I only have gmax so i could edit the current modle nad mak it alot more accruate but i need the .md3 in order to do this cause gmax can't open .glm files. Can you help me?

Unfortunately you will not be able to make a complete player character model using Gmax, or milkshape. You need 3dsmax4.2 in order to use the raven plug in released in the toolset and import XSI files which contain the skeleton to which you need to build your model. You will not be able to do any of the wieghing for the animations using any other program, or import any of the XSI files (as far as I know the importer plugin is only available for 3dsmax4.2 and above)

 

It is a LOT of work that you'll be getting into even if you just choose to modify a quake 3 model for JKII. It is not something easy and you'll be spending a LOT of time scaling, editing the mesh to fit the skeleton, weighing, egmenting, capping and linking your model accordingly. I am definitely not saying it's too difficult or that you cant do it, I just want to let you know that it's not a very simple editing process, and will take some time. (hey if, I can get a model into game, ANYBODY can ;) )

 

Be sure to get your hands on 3dsmax4.2 if you want to make character models.

I know that but i can make the model and send it to someone with 3DSM, i'm sure one of my modeling friends will help me with that, i've done it before! so can you help me by getting that file for me?

As far as I know, the plugins only work in 3ds max 4.x. You don't need 4.2, 4.anything will work. I don't think it works with 5 or up, however.

I'm thinking if you have this much trouble to get someone with max to just "import" a model and "save" it under a different format, it's going to be really frustrating when you'll need somebody to do a weeks worth of work on it.

 

I would help you since what you're asking is really nothing and just takes a few seconds to do, but right now I dont have an md3 importer for 4.2 installed on my machine, I'm too lazy to go look for one. ;)

now it doesn't work like that! help guys! if i get the .md3 i'll be fine! i've done this before! Isanesith made a model in .md3 format that i skinned for him then we got Duncan to get it ingame from 3DSM it's easy please help!

 

Even someone with Milkshape could do this! Could someone with milkshape import the .glm and get me a .md3 of the model? PLEASE!

The plugins work fine for Max5 but I can't figure out how to wrap a mesh around the skeleton. I have the bare bones Jedi Trainer skeleton but don't know how to put meat and clothes on him.
