I think it's unrealistic, that AA, can't shoot ground! All units should be able to shoot air, but many of them, should be very inaccurate! Also, air is too weak and too slow, and the game-engine is ¤%$#!

Then don't play it! If air is any more powerful it's TOO powerful and you can't just make all air units. You don't siege a city by air attacks... All units don't attack the air for the sake of balance and strategy. Besides, ground units can't generally shoot air because planes fly too high. When's the last time you heard of something being shot out of the sky by anything other than a surface to air missile? That's why those missiles exist. Would you shoot at a plane with a pistol? No.

Well, if the plane was right in front off me, I'm sure you could shoot it with a pistal and aim for the fuel tank. That would do some damage..... But if a plane was flying overhead at a couple of hundred feet above the sky, a pistal wouldn't to diddly sh!t

That isn't what I am saying! The air-unit's just too weak! They get shot all too easy! You’ll need about 20 air units in this game, if you don't want to be shot down!

if you pay attention youll see that troopers can do damage to less heavily armored sir units like a scout fighter if theyre close to the ground. most other units can do some damage from a range. a trooper may not kill the air fighter but it may do some worthless damage if its wishes. once again i state that not all units are capable of targeting air.

but whatever happened to laser turrents targeting air?

Do we really need an anti-air turrent?

Do they even exist?

Oh and pbguy1211 have you not seen any of the original star wars movies? Half the battles are either all air or air dominated. It is possible to seige a city with just air. bring in fighter to escort the bombers and maybe a few gunships and corvettes?

What are you talking about? SEIGE A CITY, not DESTROY IT!

And the air battles were all air vs. air. When was there air attacking ground units in the OT? When the droids were sought on Tatooine in IV troops went looking... In Hoth it was a few speeders and mostly troops vs the walkers. And endor was ewoks vs troopers and mechs. When did you see air in these battles? Air only fought air and on the surface of the deathstar.

(I'm in a rush so i might amend this later)

eh...what?!!? troopers can't shoot fighters. what do you refer to by a "scout fighter"? you mean, scouts from the mech factory?

So they aren't completely helpless if they come under attack from air. Dedicated AA are designed to attack air, whereas these mechs would just have the ability to defend against air. If you go to attack a base expecting air, you bring AA. If you are attacked by air and you have no AA handy, the mechs will do the best they can.

Pbguy - yes you can. Units such as the Arleigh Buke-class DDG and Ticonderoga-class CG have an excelent blend of ASW, ASuW and AAW capabilities, and if fact can attack anything.

In respect to anti-air, i think the following should be able to attack air-

Confederacy = Hail droid

Empire = AT-AT

Republic = AT-TE

Naboo = Gian Speeder

Federation = AAT

along with wookiee and rebel units.

Now (in conjunction with my SWGB2 idea) these units are your main battle units, hence each civ would also recieve a fairly cheap, specialised anti-air mech.

I just think having dedicated AA units is a tad uninteresting. If you had a variety of units that could shoot air things would be much more interesting. At the moment everyone makes AA units to take into battle. A bit of variety and diversity would be much better.

I'm not suggesting every ranged unit should shoot air, but at least a couple should.
