Hannibal
Did you guys(and gal) here that not only is it delayed but the first release won't have all the features they promised it will? That's insane. I'm glad I don't really care about this game. When they originally said there'd be no Jedi I said "ok, then there will be no Hannibal." Then when they said there would be but we're gonna make it almost impossible to become one I said "ok, screw you your not getting my money." leXX
Not only do you have to pay a monthly fee but you don't get to be a Jedi! [sarcasm]Ewwww I'm gonna rush out and buy this game when it comes out!![/sarcasm]
Jan Gaarni
Plz, put it in perspective here. Think of the timeline it's in. And to be honest, thank God there won't be many Jedi.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it should be easy to be a Jedi. But, the PC Gamer article I read basicly said that everything works against the Jedi(which fits in nicely with the timeline). Basiclly I'd be paying my money(monthly) to advance very slowly and very likely be killed by some ultra elite bounty hunter that joined the same time I did. I just felt after all these years they finally revealed more of the Jedi to us and then they don't give us much to play with.
leXX
I guess what appeals about Star Wars is different for everyone. Some like Bounty Hunters, some like guns, some like lightsabers, some like space battle etc. The appeal for me is the Jedi (the force, lightabers). I was put off with the monthly fee before hearing this, now it just sounds even worse. What can SWG offer me that KOTOR can't?

Reb Starblazer
The point of Galaxies is to go beyond Jedi, which are the epitome of the Star Wars universe, and expand it to fit everyone. It's not supposed to appeal just to Star Wars geeks like other Star Wars games, it's supposed to appeal to MMORPG players of every type. It's intended to be the most immersive, most gank-free, most diverse MMORPG in the market at this time, that's what they're going for. That it's set in the SW galaxy, and as such will immediately attract a rather large fan base right off the bat, is just a bonus. If everyone were allowed to be Jedi, it'd be Jedi Knight 2 : Jedi Outcast on a massive scale, nothing more. There would probably be as much whining and complaining as well... But to take JK2 as an example, SWG will also be split into groups like it, the "RP'ers" and the "gankers". The people who want to Role play, do something other than fight, etcetera, well they can. They can be be explorers, mechanics, bar owners, even chefs, among 20 something other professions. The people who want to get in there and just "blow s**te up!", well they can do that too. The only difference is, in SWG these two groups can actually do it separately without interfering with each other. Don't want to fight? Then don't join the Empire or the Rebel's, simple as that. If you don't side with either faction, you don't get killed. This is who SWG is appealing to. The people who are sick and tired of being ganked in other games when they're just trying to have fun, can now find safe refuge. As for the actual reason why there will only be 100 Jedi on an entire server, is because to put it simply, Jedi will be gods among men. Jedi will be as powerful as you see them in the movies, very much above regular beings. Jedi will be able to take on multiple opponents and win with ease, it'll take a whole group working in perfect unison(or Darth Vader) to take one down. Not to mention, should 2 or 3 Jedi actually meet each other, and team up, they'd be practically invincible. The only thing is, Jedi are hunted. Use your Force abilities in a public place, you're screwed. Every Imperial in the sector will be on your arse. Tell anyone your secret, and you risk the chance that they'll sell you out to the Empire for credits. To be a Jedi, is to be alone. That much power comes at a high price, as it should. In other words, why would you want to be a Jedi, when you could be something else What they're doing is making the Jedi an undesireable profession, so that people will actually do OTHER things instead of wandering around going "OMG!!1 I R THE UB3R L337 J3DI. I R0><><0RD YOUR PADAWAN ASS!!!!!!11". Doesn't sound too bad if you ask me... And in closing, may I ask you guys what you would spend 20 dollars a month on? And, that's only the maximum it might be, most speculation is at about 12-15 dollars a month, not 20. I know I could easily blow 20 bucks in a DAY, so why is spending 20 a month such a stretch... Taos
How much did it get pushed back? I'm happy that I'm not in such a rush to buy this game either.
leXX
Well that explains a lot, thnx Reb. The game does sound appealing, and now you have explained about the Jedi, it does make sense. Why don't I wan't to spend $20 a month or however much it will be over here? Well because I like to get my moneys worth. I won't be playing it every night or nowhere near that and I've heard that unless you build your character up pretty quickly, you get left behind. I have a life, hard to believe I know but I do have 2 daughters and a house to look after. Add up all the money you are going to be spending altogether on this game and ask yourself is it really worth it when there are so many other good games coming out? Taos
That really explains why I don't want the game that badly. Thanks for putting that into words for me LeXX! I think it would be incredible to play, but I don't have all that time to be able to put into it.
Treacherous Mercenary
I don't really have money to be paying monthly in the first place anyways. Don't get me wrong, the game looks interesting, but I don't want to pay every month just to play online when I can play KOTOR instead... Although it may not be MP. Hannibal
Don't get me wrong. There is no doubt in my mind that this game will be one of the best SW(most likely the best MMORPG) there is. I've been very impressed by what I've read. But like leXX said it would take to much of my time to create a decent character. I'd hate to spend years working on a character to look back and realize that it really means nothing. I spent my money and time to do something in the real world that I have nothing to show for. If I save my money and go on a cruise or to the Grand Canyon(or something like that) I can take pictures and have the memories. But I'm not gonna show a slide show to people of my SW:Galaxies adventures. I like a game that ends. Then I can pick it up later play it again and play it for as little or as long as I want. I used to play on this SW MUD. I create this Jedi Character and got him to like level 15 in a few months. But real life took over. When I remembered about the character I just wasn't interested in keeping it up anymore. I know MUDs are text but still, real life is to important (and powerful) for me to devote to much time to anything else.
Reb Starblazer
Oh trust me, I feel the same way. I would definitely like to get Galaxies, but I know I won't. I'll be in school when it's released and I won't have any free time to play it. School comes before anything else. But to answer what you said about character building leXX, it is supposed to be very "newbie" friendly, and easy to do. This game is being made with the casual gamer in mind, not only the hardcore ones. It's not supposed to take too long to get up a few levels, so that someone can't sneeze on you and kill you Of course there will be people who are much higher in skill than you, but they'll have invested a lot of time, and as such somewhat deserve it. But in this game, professions will be fairly easy to gain, but hard to master. I completely hear you and am with you guys on the money/time issue though, just let me clarify that. I just don't want someone to find this thread in a few months, and read nothing but negative things about Galaxies. I want to shed a bit of light on both sides of the coin;). But the fact that we're having this discussion shows in and of itself that we are in fact not the target demographic of this game:D Some people will love it, some will hate it. Can't please everyone after all.
