RELEASE DATE Discussion

So is E3 this weekend (May 10). Cuz I agree that would be the best time to announce the exact release date.

I know that some stores will ship the game a couple of days before it is supposed to be released so you recieve it the day it is released, but sometimes they don't. I haven't heard if anything like that will be available. Even if it was I don't recieve mail until around 1pm, and I'm not sure if I want to give up 6-7 good hours of playing time.

E3 would also be a good time for them to release those gameplay videos they were talking about. Only problem is they said to keep checking Gamespot. I think they should release everything to IGN. At least we'd get to see it within a few weeks.

Really if Gamespot gets it then we won't see it for a week or two. I never visit gamespot anymore.

The last footage I saw for the game was on the XBox demo disc and it didn't look bad but it really wasn't that awesome. I'm not complaining b/c if you ever saw demos for any of the games in the Baldur's Gate series I'm sure a yawn would escape your mouth within seconds, but I can honestly say that is my favorite game series. And I'm sure KOTOR is going to be even deeper then them.

The problem with gamespot is that you can't download any of the movies if you're not a member. If you're a non-member, the only thing you can do is stream the video, which has two problems...

#1. The quality is often... not-that-good.

#2. You need a rather good connection if you want to view the videos

Now IGN has a policy I like... non-members can only download a certain quantity and often have to wait a few days, whilst members can virtually download anything they want, whenever they want.

Yeah, and for IGN you can delete the cookies and make it appear as though you've never been to the site and see as many as you want.

edit- I just checked Gamespot and they locked all of their streaming video. I guess they had a big audience for the opening crawl and would rather make money off it. :(

If Bioware/Lucasarts doesn't give the specific release date during E3 we may be in trouble.

According to the reports I've read from E3 and from a friend who went to it Bioware isn't as finished as I thought(And they said).

I've heard that the framerate isn't what it should be and it slows down a lot in places. I'm sure that they can fix that in a month, but I thought all they had to do was finish implenting the voice and polish it up. Unless of course polishing it up includes fixing the framerate, not sure.

Anywayz NOT COMPLAINING just expressing my CoNcErN and seeing if you all have heard anything else about it from E3.

Taureanwilliams you got me wondering about the whole "gone gold" process. I'm wondering how long it takes from when it goes gold to when it's shipped.

So the big concern is how long it takes to mass produce the game for shipment. The boxes could already be made since they know what they will look like. The manuals as well.

I didn't have a concern about frame rate before but, I do wonder how long a process this will be.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't they base the "Gone Gold" status on how many units they've sold? So that includes Pre-order, not sure how many units need to be sold though.

Regarding the length of time it'll take it shouldn't be too long. All they should have to do is burn the info on cd's right? I hope so they've had enough time to design the cd cover and box cover :)

Does anyone out there know how serious an issue framerate is? Cuz I think in some Magz I've read it never seems to be a huge issue, but I don't know how long it takes to get fixed.

In the gaming industry "gone gold" means the debugging process is over and it's ready to be handed over for mass production. I believe someone said(leXX) that the color of the CD is gold and that's why it's called gone gold.

On the official site the Devs said their dealings with the framerate is on schedule.

Yeah, it means that the master CD(it's gold) is going to be burned and copied. And copied. And then it'll be put in CD's and shipped.

So that's why going gold is always a week or two before they hit stores.

All we seem to be getting for PC is 'Fall'. Its a big season, can anyone be more specific?

Also, if the UK XBox release is behind that of the US XBox release will the PC releases be the same?

Aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhh!!! I hate living on this miserable island :cry6:

Won't shut up, won't shut up.

It has to be out by July so I can tease all of you pathetic PC-only users. :p

I think I'll take pictures of me playing and send it to a few select forum members...

:D;)

BTW--The official site hasn't changed the date yet. It's still July for XBox which is amazing. Usually when it gets this close, they change it again.

*cheers*

Now that's just simply evil, Jedi Apprentice... EEEEEVIL, I tell ya, EEEEVIL.

I like it :p

amazon.co.uk says 19 September, 2003 and play.com says 27/06/2003 come on 27th of june, its been delyed too many times dammit!

You honestly shouldn't put too much faith in any store, online or not. The only ones who really know the release date is Bioware, and Bioware alone. I must say that I disagree that it's been delayed too many times... as long as the delays are meant to improve the game, they can have as many delays as they want. At least, that's the way I see it.

well why dont they just say that it aint coming out until say september, for xbox and if they get finished before that, its a plus. Instead of saying coming winter 2002 then putting it back, then febuary 2003, then spring 2003, june 2003 now its gonna be fall 2003. So why not just put a conservitive estimate instead of continually getting peoples hopes up?

Perhaps because... oh, maybe things change? Critical bugs show up, and we wouldn't want a bug-riddled product, now do we(*shudders as he thinks back to Quest for Glory 4, a brilliant game, but the bugs were its ultimate downfall*)? Bioware knows that they can do better and decide to enhance things instead of delivering a sloppy product? Maybe they were being a bit too optimistic? Who knows?

Let's see, I can remember the winter 2002 date.... didn't the first trailer show that date? Now I can remember that everyone hoped that February would be the release date, but as far as I know, that was all speculation, nothing official. Then they said spring 2003, then narrowed it down to June... in essence, both the same thing. Now, methinks you're being a bit dramatic with this "fall 2003" release, as they merely postponed the game a month(July). That's one frickin' month, 31 days at most... if you've been waiting for a game this long, then surely 31 days more or less shouldn't matter?

Maybe you're referring to the September date? Pardon me, but that must've been expected somewhat, shouldn't it? I'm no expert on the subject, but I know that there are differences between America and the UK that are totally out of Bioware's hands... plus, the game DOES get released on July... unfortunately, only for America.

EDIT : Egad, I almost forgot! This one is for you, tyson!

If they did that whenever they had a release date people would go "that really means 3 months earlier".

I've read on numerous forums people complaining that the game has been pushed back "200" times. When the reality is it's only been 2 times.

My concern over people whining about the release date(incorrectly whining mine you) is that Bioware is given an unfair bad reputation.

The guys(and girls) there are to nice(and professional) to get negative press. It's funny, absolutely no websites complain about the 2 delays and it continues to get positive reviews in each article.
