first i wanna say that im gonna get both games but im pretty sure i will like JA better

ive played only 2 RPG's all the way to the end

the first was legends of murder (if you havent heard about it i dont blame you and if you have then you can start laughing at me now ;) ) and the second was super mario RPG

so yeah you might say that my RPG experiance has been a little bit limited :)

im not saying i dont like RPG's i just dont get into them enough to keep playing them

this one might be diffrent though because of my love for all things SW :D

but i dont think theres any way that im gonna like KOTOR better than JA

could be wrong but i doubt it

ill let you guys know when ive played them both...cant wait!

Well, the fact that the combat system is basically null in consideration of interactivity of the player in KOTOR, JA is going to be much more fun. KOTOR is going to be really sweet though. I thought that it would be the "Deus Ex + Star Wars" dream combination. Too bad. Deus Ex 2 is coming and that will be the first of the two RPGs that I will get. I am going to get JK3 first before DX2 and KOTOR though.

Settled. I loved the forums.

I wouldn't say null exactly. Playing NWN you do still have to change tactics and choose different attacks during battles - but I can see what you're trying to say. You're not in direct control of every single sweep of the lightsaber, or shot from a blaster, and it's not in 1st person.

I'm still waiting for a game like that too. A first-person Star Wars RPG in the same vein as Deus Ex would be excellent to see. Who knows...they might get around to it eventually. I just hope I'm not using a zimmer frame by then. :p

I really hope SW:G will have real time saber fights though... AQnd it would be even better if SW:G has singleplayer, so it will be the rpg I want :D

I really thought KOTOR would be the game I allways wanted, but turn based action just isn't my thing - with lightsaberbattles anyways...

I didn't even know what an RPG was untill I played Jagged Alliance 2... That was some sort of RPG, I liked it :D I liked Deus Ex too, but that was more of a shooter with RPG elements, I hate rpgs like MorroWind. I really wanted to like morrowind, but it was too slow for me. Too bad, I wanted to be a badass sword weilding sorcerer. Perhaps I'm too impacient for RPGs :)

KOTOR appealed to me, developing your character to be a Jedi seems great, but the battles are going to be turn based. First you select a move out of the box (you'll learn more moves during the game) and then you execute it and then your enemy counters your move...

The rest of KOTOR could be real great though, so maybe I'll try it...

I don't think the lightsaber fights are realtime, but maybe someone can confirm that.

The point is probably mute though, since it will be very difficult to become a Jedi in the first place. If you are looking for FPS lightsaber action HertogJan, you'll probably want to skip Galaxies.

I don't think you understand what SWG is...there is no single player...hence the genre of the game MMORPG - massive multiplayer online role playing game.

It's not only turn-based, it's a combination of real time/turn-based. Bioware created a special engine for the game and they call it the odyssey.

I really think that KOTOR is what you're looking for.......I know it's what I'm looking for! :D

Jedi Academy is a FPS. That means 1st and third person gunplay + lightsaber (1st & 3rd person) + force powers.

KOTOR is a third person jedi simulator RPG, so it lacks many of these "bonus" features in gameplay. In addition, its an RPG, which means that you have to wade through all this "character building" stuff, which pure action fans find very tedius. The action in RPGs tends to be slower paced, and focuses more on story than thrills.

On top of all that JKA uses the Q3 engine, which may editors are more familiar with, and thus the mod community already has a head-start on this game, as it did with Jedi Outcast.

And finally, JKA has both single player AND multiplayer, therefore branching out into realms that KOTOR won't even touch.

Ultimately, despite KOTOR turning out to be a much "deeper" game, JKA has the potential for far more replay value, both in terms of third party mods, and in terms of multiplayer.

Also the genres appeal to different gamers, despite a similar theme. It's a little like comparing Baldur's Gate to Rune Gold.

I'm actually looking forward somewhat to KOTOR, which is more than I can say for SWG (I have a thing against MMORPGs on principle).

A lot of people brought up a lot of advantages that JA has. I know at least that JA will be a game I can run easily on my comp. With the Q3 Engine and extras that Raven have included in this game like double sabers and light staff, the mod community could heavily expand. There are already major works in progress for JO that look to be glorious (AkPiggott's Party Crasher map is the closest of them to be released). MP is a major part of a game that keeps a community going and extends the life of a game. FF CTF and Duel were quite popular until the weak saber and spams were brought into it. If Raven makes some revisions, JA could own KOTOR.

KOTOR definitely looks beautiful.

This is very true, and one reason that I'll probably end up prefering JA. I love the fact that JA will be so customizable like JO. My JO is now quite different from the original game I bought. To bad all those console suckers are missing out :)

Im going to buy JA (of course), and maybe KOTOR to the Xbox. I like RPGs, the Final Fantasy-series rule!

But SW Galaxies... hmmmm.... If it werent for that monthly fee, id probably buy it. Also they´ll NEVER be able to balance the jedi mortality and the saber combat.

Considering it will be extremely difficult for anyone to become a Jedi in the first place, it probably won't be too big an issue.

Me, I wanna get both games. I like KoToR because it has more story and more character interaction, but I do like a bit more control over the character. I suck at JKII, so maybe a point and click game like KoToR would be easier. It's a tough choice. It'd be nice if we had demos of both games :D

But seriously there should be. I mean one level for each game.
